The Waverly Inn
Established in 1920, The Waverly Inn was reopened in 2006 by Vanity Fair Editor-in-Chief Graydon Carter along with Sean MacPherson and Eric Goode (of the Maritime and Bowery Hotels) and Emil Varda. Tucked into the ground floors of two adjoining townhouses, the dining room's red booths, fireplaces and low amber lighting provide an attractive and cozy hangout for the city’s best and brightest. The menu features American classics alongside contemporary seasonal dishes using organic, local ingredients.
What a perfect place for our anniversary. Such a charming ambiance, wonderful cuisine (loved the grapefruit brulee), and superb service.
My anniversary with my wife was met with a wonderful evening of exceptional service , food that was so good , flavorful and to be in the heart of the west village , love it and I suggest people come and dine there
Always terrific food, attentive service and as nice ambience as can be expected under the circumstances
The food took forever to come out. 3 tables that arrived after us got their food before us. I did not have a good experience.
The Waverly Inn has captured a quasi-Parisienne sensibility in cosy outdoor dining. The quiet corner where Bank meets Waverly was picturesque pre-pandemic, now this ambience is all the more welcome. The staff is knowledgeable about the food and wine, and it must be said, in very good shape owing to the chasing back and forth to the kitchen. I went to brunch so encountered a limited menu...good, but brief. I'll go back for an evening meal.
Included specific reservation notes 2 days ahead of time requesting a the most sun protected table to accommodate a guest who had just completed skin cancer treatment. We arrive to find that the "only table available" had no sun/UV protection at all. The host appeared to be and told my guest that if they didn't mind WAITING that he would see what he could do about finding a more appropriate seating. Unfortunately, when people make reservations, it's usually because they do not have the option of Time to wait...my guest felt embarrassed about "making a fuss" and capitulated to the available table and thus spent their entire experience at unease.
Service was kind although lacked follow up.
Kitchen was sloppy! Shucked oysters stabbed in the guts. Ovverprived jumbo shrimp that I had to finish cleaning myself...$27 for 4 larger shrimp and I have to finish cleaning the vein and random shell pieces myself???...C'mon....just sloppy...
Probably one of the most romantic evenings I’ve had in 2020. My love came to visit from DC for his birthday, and I clearly chose wisely. We had just a simply magical evening.
We loved it!
Still good. Never disappoints
The attitude and service was despicable. We sat at 345pm and they serve brunch until 4pm. After asking various people for service they finally returned to the table after 4pm to say there was only a limited menu!
Absolutely beautiful location. I enjoyed a delicious chicken pot pie, though it was a littttle expensive considering the portion size. (It was the perfect amount for one person and I loved it... just $28 is a little steep.) But considering how nice the restaurant was, how kind the server was, and just the overall vibe... well worth it. I will definitely be back.
Still a classic! The outdoor seating set-up was the best I’ve experienced in the city so far during COVID times. Very safe and clean feeling as well.
Doing a great job during difficult times. Can't wait to return for another meal.
The food was great as was the ambiance. Service was a little spotty.
Such a cute neighborhood spot! Staff was super friendly and food was delicious. Went on a sunday morning and got a table super easy.
Ridiculously special. Thank you for a five star evening. Service, courses, setting all covidly perfect. Won’t want to return indoors! Thank you everyone.
Always sensational food. Amazing staff. Very well social distanced Lovely. So glad it’s open again
We had a wonderful experience. Food and wine were amazing. Nice romantic place
Birthday dinner — food was great as usual. Spot light came on at dusk — but hey NYC is making it work.
So glad it's open and still delicious!! A classic NY institution.
Superb outdoor dining. The waitstaff was attentive and masked. The food was wonderful.
It was a respite for us during this pandemic.
It was a bday I made sure the restaurant knew it, and they did not do anything about it
Not even a small candle cake.
The food was way basic for the price
Not worth it
Staff was great sat out in a chilly night let us move inside when it got colder
Food was great as always
Excellent food, cozy and elegant environment. 10/10 recommend.
Wait staff amazing. Friendly, accommodating, great energy.
Garden room was special on a cold Friday night.
Love it!! Favorite
We were a party of 6. Four of us have been at the restaurant several times previously and loved our experiences. This time we were not pleased. Our waitress was abrupt and rude. All wait staff reached over us several times without so much as a "pardon me". Not what we have grown to expect at this restaurant and a bit embarrassing for us as we were hosting 2 out of town friends.
Highly overpriced food ($65 for dover sole fish which was poorly executed and served with plain green beans), quality far lower than average. Other dishes like grilled octopus and cauliflower were also far below average. Poor selection of liquor. Ambiance is quite nice, candle light, rather romantic atmosphere.
Wonderful! Food, cocktails all delicious. People are so nice, wait staff, bartender, host. No wait for our reserved table. Very happy!
the food was a disappointment ... the restaurant is in a lovely space...i have eaten there 5 or 6 times and the food gets poorer each time...too bad
The restaurant cancelled on us at the door after we walked a mile to get there, claiming it was a mistake that the reservation was taken. At this point all other restaurants were closed in the area so we were left without food for the night. The host clearly couldn’t have cared less and just stood there smugly.
i love this restaurant, it can be either sedate or rollicking, and the food, the service and the surroundings never fail to charm.
Had a great brunch here! Great menu. Not super kid friendly from a menu standpoint but we still enjoyed our time.
Sneakily good brunch
Good food and setting, let down by the poor service and entitled staff. Left with the impression that it’s a privilege to be there.
Great food and service.
Used to be my favorite place but this time.....Rushed service, Lukewarm food, not a very friendly waiter, super expensive wine list, Maitre'd on cell phone texting as we left
Amazing food, service and ambiance; Legendary NYC place.
Great place, sat in the garden, amazing vibes and scenery, our waiter was hilarious
