The Waverly Inn
I have eaten here numerous times and the food and service is always wonderful. However, I frequently request on a reservation that I want to sit in the garden and when I arrive for my reservation they inform me the garden is closed for a private party or unavailable for some reason and I end up having to sit at a cramped table inside. The experience is still wonderful, however, when you are heading to dinner with the expectation of a quiet, fireside meal in the garden and you end up at a loud, cramped table with 6 inches between you and the tables on either side of you, no amount of amazing food or service can make up for it.
If you want to sit in the garden definitely double and triple check before your reservation because odds are they will not accommodate you.
Classic old school NY spot—can’t beat it.
It’s a must. Absolutely amazing atmosphere.
Our favorite place in NYC. Ambience and setting couldn't be lovelier and the food is consistently great (altho the last entree I had there -- the cauliflower -- was almost inedible. I didn't return it but I probably should have).
We had a very special Sunday brunch here with an out-of-town friend. The service,
as always, is impeccable. The food was great. And the chocolate mousse dessert
Everything great but noise level
Have wanted to come here for years and so glad I finally did! The ambiance in the back patio, great waitstaff, strong drinks and huge portions will definitely bring me back. For two, we had the crab cakes, pot pie, spinach and mashed potatoes and took a third of it to go. Great spot for a date night or special occasion. Our meal plus 4 cocktails was $150. Worth it!
Here for my husband’s birthday. Everything was outstanding. Would highly recommend.
Fun neighborhood spot with a great ambiance in bar and seating areas. Food is good - not great, but I don't think you head here for a 5 star meal! There is a good selections of wines and food.
Amazing place in terms of ambiance. Waitstaff was good and friendly but a bit hectic: ‘who’s our waiter? Oh you only fill my already full glass of water? Ok sure i wait for the main waiter then... ’ Food: bread was raw, however, fish tartare was incredibly good, as was the rest, and let’s not forget the great wines they serve!
Funny: we asked the water waiter to take a picture. He immediately turned into whispering mode and explained that the owner does not allow for pictures being taken by staff members. ‘Ok’ we replied, whispering. We took a sercret selfy. Anyway: WE RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! IT’S BEAUTIFUL, A BIT WEIRD AND OVERALL FUN AND DELICIOUS!
One of the best restaurants in New York
My wife had the chicken which was superb. I really enjoyed the cheeseburger.
The cocktail are excellent as well
Singular & Spectacular. Amazing staff. Classic & delicious dining. Perfect old school clubby ambiance.
I love this place.. a perfect meal for two hungry people. Great drinks and atmosphere too!
Solid menu. Good wine list. Beer and cocktail list could have a little better selection, but what is available, is not bad. Friendly and attentive service. Great ambiance.
Staff remembered to bring our desert with a candle for a birthday celebration even though it was a week before that I requested it.
I thought my pot pie had a little too many herbs, that took away from the vegetables & chicken flavors.
We had an amazing time , great service , awesome ambiance and delicious food! Thank you !
We took my out-of-town sister-in-law and niece for brunch. As
hoped, it was completely enjoyable. The food was delicious and
the setting was charming. The waitstaff is especially attentive
and accommodating. A true delight.
Wonderful atmosphere, great food, terrific service. The steak and fish were perfectly cooked.
Food is excellent and the service is attentive without being overbearing.
And you can’t beat the atmosphere! A long time favorite that never disappoints
Great ambience. Need to focus on entrees. Pot pie and shrimp risotto were bland. Bread, appetizers, and dessert were quite good.
Fabulous - fabulous place. We arrived early to have drinks at the bar and dined in the yard - conservatory. The food and service was outstanding. The salad and octopus appetizers were perfect and the fish and chicken pot pie were exceptional. Enjoyed a nice stroll in the beautiful neighborhood after the fab dinner.
Beautiful interior. Radically overpriced for food. Don’t bother.
The food was delicious. I was hoping to enjoy the garden but the weather was too humid - next time.
Overpriced garbage. Insulting prices for average food.
Wish we had asked for seating in the garden area. Food was phenomenal. The truffle Mac and cheese was amazing.
Very beautiful if your sitting in the atrium area. Very dark in the restaurant. The food was good but portions very small for the price. We had several different waiters that came by the table but confused on who our server actually was??
I hadn't been to The Waverly Inn in years. We went for brunch. After perusing the menu, I settled in Eggs Benedict as I love Hollandaise. I was disappointed. What was served as Hollandaise didn't come close. Yes, it was smooth, eggy but no lemon, no true Hollandaise taste.
One of my friends ordered the stack of blueberry pancakes. He was not enthusiastic. The only satisfied person ordered the grits with shrimp.
The service was hysterical. Every two minutes a different waiter showed up. I suspect many of them were in training. Glasses almost full of water were added to, possibly to keep the waitstaff busy.
The noise level in the "garden" became to loud that we couldn't stay and I am hard of hearing.
I suppose my disappointment was based on memories of memorable meals. Perhaps the dinner menu is better. One can hope.
Patio in back. Just stunning. Perfect service and food. Haven't been in 10 years and as wonderful and romantic as I remember.
I went on a quiet Sunday evening and it was relaxing and as beautiful as ever. The food was very good, but the prices are still a little over the top given that the restaurant is no longer a "must" destination. But, still love the ambiance and service.
We love this place. Its an experience, the music is perfect and so is the lighting. Drinks are well crafted and food is delicious.
The Waverly Inn is always a a treat. Service is impeccable. The ambiance is charming (I love the garden room). And the food was great.
Top food top service great ambience with a very nice crowd
Garden room was way too hot
Menu was limited
The food was a complete disaster and the chicken pot pie was not eatable (the staff didn't seem surprised about it and we were not charge for it)....We finally had to choose a different restaurant to finish our dinner....very disappointing! it was for a special occasion and it turned out to be a nightmare
I’ve never had such a terrible experience with food. They should fire the chef asap. We ordered 4 dishes, one more terrible than the other.
We went to the WI for our wedding anniversary. I arrived before my husband and was told I couldn’t be seated until he too had arrived. It was 6pm, the restaurant was empty and I’m pregnant. I was appalled by this. When we did get seated (outside by request) we then weren’t welcomed or offered water or menus by waitstaff. Nearly 10 mins went by when my husband finally had to go inside to request this. Absolutely over priced - food was mediocre at best and service was awful. Will not return.
No photos allowed, so not much to show, but The Waverly Inn is a NYC icon for a reason. The cutest outdoor garden area if you can snag a table back there. We had a lovely 3 hour dinner and it couldn't have been better. The food was great. The service was perfectly attentive, but not overbearing. And the wine list was beyond comprehension. Not a single complaint.
What an incredible location! - what fabulous food! - great drinks! and super friendly Service!
Loved it so much!
Love the Waverly Inn, brilliant in so many ways!
