The Waverly Inn
Would choose outside area, a little too noisy in main room. Service a bit slow, not too personal, but we’ll go back! Quite charming.
Absolute worst all around.
Great food, amazing atmosphere. We sat in the “outside” area for brunch. It was incredibly comfortable, and the food was amazing!
One of my faves in NYC. A "not to be missed." Got so see snd meet Graydon Carter the last time I was there. Very gracious.
Great place for its ambiance and hearty menu. Very good selection of wine and intimate atmosphère even though the tables are quite close to each other.
The only slightly negative comment would be that the hosts at the entrance could work a little more on their hospitality.
It was wonderful. Great environment, service and food!
Very disappointed with the pricey wine & food prices, especially for a salad wedge! Pot pie disappointing. We were there @ 30 yrs ago & 10 yrs ago. Won’t be back Sorry.. I’ve never written a bad review Makes me feel 😞
Went to the Waverly Inn on Sunday. We all had the burger and a bottle of red wine. Food and wine were delicious - one of the best burgers I've ever had. Our waiter was a bit short with us as we sat at 3:45 pm and we were unaware the kitchen stopped serving brunch at 4 and we were told the dinner menu didn't start until 6. Having worked in the restaurant business, I know the end of a shift can be stressful, but he stressed us a little. I will go back for sure, just the ambiance alone was so perfect for a fall day. I will just go back before 3 or after 6!
Cannot day enough of the amazing food and ambiance at the Waverly. They were very accommodating after we switched our reservation and we were seated in the most spectacular garden. The truffle Mac and Cheese is a must!!! A Jewel of a place😊
My sisters and I had a birthday brunch. It was a rainy October day. We arrived at 11 when they open. The fires were lit, the tables were set, and the coffee was on! The bartender did his best to maintain his appropriate surly reputation, but made an excellent Bloody Mary. We settled into our table by the fireplace and had a very pleasant time. Service is attentive but not overbearing, menu is simple but complete, and presentation is more than adequate. Not too much. Noise level is low and ambience is intimate. Very good place for small group.
I think I left my glasses there/ back right table in the garden
Pls call me if you find them
It brings you back to nostalgic time.... it's cozy, the lighting level makes everyone beautiful! I love the music. The Vanity Fair cartoon drawings in the main dining room give a nod to the restaurant's owner, Graydon Carter, who happened to be dining a couple of tables away the night I was there. The back dining area feels like your dining in a conservatory garden. It's beautiful! The service and food are top notch... you won't mind paying your bill at the end of the meal.
yummy roasted chicken. nice attentive service. comfortable cozy atmosphere.
I can’t fault The Waverly overall. The food and drink were very good. It is expensive and I think a little over-priced compared to other places I’ve been but, I guess that’s NYC. One thing I was a little disappointed about was that for the ‘investment’ and having been recommended the place as somewhere perfect to celebrate an occasion The Waverly left me feeling a bit let down. On booking the web form asked ‘is it a special occasion?’ And I selected ‘Birthday’ and in the place for more info I put that it was my 50th. I’d travelled to NYC with my 2 sons to celebrate it and The Waverly was to be THE place for a celebratory dinner. I honestly didn’t want any fuss, didn’t want or expect a welcome drink, or nightcap, discount or even a candle in a cupcake; in fact, I don’t like a lot of birthday fuss. But, it was a big occasion for me and I was really hoping it would be special given the recommendations from New York based friends that this was the place to go and TWI has asked and i’d answered. What happened was nothing. All I really hoped for was either a ‘good evening and happy birthday! Here’s your table’ or ‘a good night and enjoy the rest of your birthday’. I don’t know why they asked, it set expectations they didn’t live up to. When your at the top end of the good experience, the little things can matter a lot more.
They treated us badly as we arrived without a reservation. Always reserve and don’t expect to sit down on time.
My wife & I had dinner here for our anniversary – everything about the meal/experience was absolutely excellent!
Besides the food, service, drink/wine list, this is an excellent and refined choice for upscale causal but not jeans/flip flops- think more moncler, vineyard vines, Bruno C., - an American/euro flair - the best place in the world because there is NO music BLASTING. You can actually have a conversation without yelling. You don’t have to resort to a meal in silence because your throat is sore from yelling to be heard.
Well done Waverly 😘
HORRIBLE .... from the moment we sat down the waiter arrived unprepared , no clue what was the menu. when we asked for an explanation we were told to read the menu ...... with all the amazing restaurants in nyc like don angie i would give the waverly inn a MISS!
Good food. Service too fast. Not enough time between courses. I know a restaurant needs to turn the tables but these guys take it to a new level. Tables very close together creating lack of any privacy at all.
It was great!
Fabulous..fabulous!!!! And we had a fantastic waiter!! sorry can't remember his name!!
Have enjoyed Ye Waverly Inn for the past 50 years and enjoy it as much today as I did years ago.
Great spot in the village. Food was delicious with out trying to hard. You feel like you stepped back in time to a different NYC.
Great place! Food was excellent!!!,
Love the dark ambiance in this quiet village area. Food was good slightly pricey but overall no complaints.....
Huge disappointment at this restaurant. Service was very good. Food did not come for over one hour. People who sat on right and on left got their food and finished. WE waited. Waiter apologized and said the kitchen is backed up. No excuse in a upscale fine eating establishment. Tables are only inches away from another. Restaurant is real small are packed in like sardines in a can. Our dinner meals were comped without asking. That was very nice of them. This had to happen on my yearly trip to NYC, where I wanted a very romantic evening form bride......
Hot but with a frigid aircon blast out of the floor next to where we were seated. The front seating was somewhat cramped, with food that was reasonably good, but certainly not outstanding. Staff attitude was mixed, but our waiters were good. Overall, a pricey experience for ok food and service.
Fabulous spot with tons of charm. We loved everything ! Crab cakes, onion rings, hamburger, dover sole & eggplant were the favorites in our dining group. Service was top-notch. We would go back.
Food is consistently great and the service is strong. The staff are all pros.
Amazing place to celebrate my 9th anniversary of our first date. My husband and i celebrated our first date back in 2009. Every year we come back not only for our anniversary but for many other occasions as well. You are taken care of from the moment you walk in the door and never have to lift a finger. When we arrived we were not rushed to our table they asked if we would like to have a cocktail at the bar so we could enjoy the amazing fire place. It really is a special place. A+ on the food, A+ on the staff and management and the ambience is A++ and is as charming as when we went on our first date. I look forward to many more great occasions with friends and family.
Thank you for assisting me with the rings , champagne & dessert. Unfortunately our waiter, that night was not that friendly or provided a waverly tyoe of service, we are used to. Everyone else was great. From hostesses to bartenders & the girl that kept on checking on us and wished us a happy anniversary. She should've been our waitress.
We frequent this restaurant but this time it was very bad. Cold steak. Bad service.
The kale salad and warm pre-dinner table rolls were good. Ordered the rock shrimp risotto and it was just awful and expensive. It was so overpriced for what you get. There was no value in taste or price. There were 4 small pieces of rock shrimp, the overall flavor was just bad. I took several bites and just left the rest. Ate someplace else immediately afterwards. I wanted to like it because the menu has some comment about our president not liking it. I was disappointed I agreed. Service and ambiance was good. I kept apologizing to a friend because I picked the restaurant. We talked about how bad the risotto was the next day. I've rarely done that.
We love the Waverly Inn. Their burger are compared to none. The place is enchanting, their playlist is wonderful. We love Craig (bartender) he is great!!
Always so amazing.
We were half an hour late because traffic was so hellish, but they kept our reservation (we phoned of course), served us a lovely meal in no time flat with excellent service. so we could make it to the Village Vanguard in time. I would love to go back.
Showing a good friend visiting NY our favorite spots in the WV. Such a nice meal - great seats! Excellent service at the bar and dinner! A perfect night. Will be bringing other visitors here soon.
great location. Great food. Good table service. But the hosts were extremely rude.
I have eaten here numerous times and the food and service is always wonderful. However, I frequently request on a reservation that I want to sit in the garden and when I arrive for my reservation they inform me the garden is closed for a private party or unavailable for some reason and I end up having to sit at a cramped table inside. The experience is still wonderful, however, when you are heading to dinner with the expectation of a quiet, fireside meal in the garden and you end up at a loud, cramped table with 6 inches between you and the tables on either side of you, no amount of amazing food or service can make up for it.
If you want to sit in the garden definitely double and triple check before your reservation because odds are they will not accommodate you.
