The Wave Kitchen & Bar Ratings and Reviews
My dish was absolutely delicious. I had the scallops from the regular menu, sort of bronzed scallops with creamy polenta and sautéd spinach, yum! My dining partners were lukewarm about their meals. One had the salmon the other Caesar salad with 1/2 a lobster . This salad / lobster combo is not offered, but the staff made an exception to accommodate my sister-in-law’s request. Only downside for me was noise level.
We decided to come here at the last minute - was not disappointed with the food and service. David is a great server - he knows the menu and makes you feel special. It was "Steak Night" where they offer different steaks of your choosing and chef specials. We shared the barbeque oysters for an appetizer. This is a delicious dish - very New Orleans - I had one of the Chef specials - Rack of Lamb - it was so good - cooked perfectly, almost decadently delicious. My husband had the regular menu Pan Roasted Red Snapper - it's always a great choice. My only issue was with our bar drinks - come on - a 30 minute wait - the bartender should take care of the "foodies" eating first rather than the bar crowd""
Reserved through Opentable. The noise level was deafening!! The couple in front of us at the hostess stand said they could not eat with that noise level and left. Service was slow at best. Sat us by the kitchen door. They brought two out of the four appetizers and after five minutes or so I flagged down the waitress and got the other two. Ran out of my menu choice and it took a long time after we initially order to let me know and offer me another selection. What I got was so salty it was terrible. We told the waitress we were leaving and left. In their defense I did receive a call from the manager the next day. But we are not going back......
Dear Opentable your choices for ‘Noise level’ need to be expanded.
The highlight of evening was HECTOR the Valet, he showed true professionalism and a willingness to listen. He is a TRUE ALL-STAR!! We met him with a big smile as we arrived and the same when we left. Drinks are very pricey however they were good. I ordered the Special which was a 14oz. bone strip steak. It was very THIN and I ordered it med. rare and when it was presented it was drenched in the sauce way too much and was RAW!! They need to get a new Chef, he could not cook a thin steak to med. rare has no business in the culinary field, truly awful to be celebrating a special occasion. Then when the manager comes over they only want to give a free dessert. A free dessert when you can not even enjoy dinner, they should have comped the entire check, free dessert WOW! My wife ordered the Scottish Salmon which came out luke warm at best and the veggies were stone cold. I do compliment The Wave Kitchen and Bar for ruining what a thought was going to be a special night. The dining room was extremely noisy you had to yell to hold a conversation. DO NOT GO!
paella for two came with two shrimp, two scallops, lots of clams and mussels, chicken, chorizo; just okay. So salty I woke thirsty all night and drank 3 bottles of water. loved the calamari appetizer and loved the dulce de leche cheesecake shotglass. Both excellent. Watiress Lisa so nice, helpful, and subtle. Bottle of wine was good but ultra, ultra expensive. Not so crazy about looking out the window at fat drunks in the hot tub ...
Really wanted to enjoy brunch, but it was a train wreck.
For everything that went wrong (and it was lots...) our table waitress and the restaurant Manager were incredibly apologetic and helpful. They really tried to make things right, but they were clearly fighting against an incompetent kitchen and bar staff.
Food: Menu is extensive for brunch, and ceviche was very tasty. Get the florida/local one, it's better than the Peruvian. Cuban coffee at the end was great...strong and hot, albeit too much sugar (remember the guest can always add more at the table but it's impossible to "remove" too much).
Manager: Was incredible. As soon as she was advised our drinks, which we ordered 47 minutes ago (this is not a typo) still were not at the table, she listens and looks you in the eye, checks back often to see if things are getting back on track. If it had not been for her, we would have walked out. We wanted to hug her as we felt so bad for what she was trying to fix.
Deafeningly loud. You cannot hold a conversation at this restaurant, so come with people you don't want to talk with.
Food: Cold. Note to Chef: have a timer next to each dish once it's off the grill/oven....look at it often. It should be delivered to the guest within 2-3 minutes after being finished. Find out where the bottle neck is, as food is arriving stone cold to the tables. This is a reflection of your skills as you lead the kitchen team/food quality.
Bar: Train wreck. Enough said. Hire an experienced bartender when you are offering Sunday "endless" drinks with your brunch. Premake gallons of your "homemade bloody mary mix', because since they are endless....having one pint on hand is a disaster waiting to happen.
Crowd: Assume Sunday brunches will bring in lots of people and you will be busy. Staff accordingly and have some extra staff to handle unusual things that come up.
All and all, we discussed it and will not return anytime soon unfortunately.
The Wave, despite being a hotel restaurant, has the qualities of a more intimate restaurant. The Chef serves innovative and very interesting flavored dishes. We come here often and tend to repeat our choices because we like them so much. We started with the barbequed shrimp appetizer - a favorite for us - reminds us of New Orleans - - we then shared a burrata and serrano ham salad - again a repeat which we love -For Entrees I had the Creekstone strip steak served on a sizzling platter - delicious flavor served with whipped potatoes, wild mushrooms and demiglaze- decadent - my husband choose a very innovative, tasty seafood dish served over a bed of squid ink pasta in broth - subtle flavors with shrimp , clams, and fish - Since it was a Saturday night - there was a very talented, young guitarist playing - which added to a great dining experience. The wait staff is exceptional - attentive and professional.
Wonderful dining experience at Wave. The food was delicious and prepared as requested. The steaks came highly recommended by the wait staff and did not disappoint. Try the avocado salad! Yummy. Our server was delightful and very knowledgeable. We will return the next time we are in Vero Beach.
Dined here on Christmas Day. Very noisy atmosphere. Food was good, but for the money, portions were very small. Way too expensive for what we were served. We were there 2 years ago for Christmas and it was much better then. Place has gone downhill since. Service was lacking. Our waitress paid us very little attention. Had to find her to ask a question or order any thing else. Do not recommend.
