The Waterfront Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We dine at the Waterfront every time we visit Anna Maria. It's a tradition with us. Been there for lunch, happy hour (in the bar) and many dinners. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. They don't mind catering to special requests within reason. From starters to mains every meal has been exceptional. Quality food, well prepared, and presented. Great value for your dining dollar. Oh yes, they pour a perfect pint of Guinness. Best I've had outside Ireland and that's saying something.
The appetizer portions are enormous so be forewarned! We elected to sit outside since it was such a nice evening. Unfortunately there were several unruly children throwing tantrums outside the ice cream place next door but that's not the restaurant's fault. Competent and discreet server who didn't try to insert herself into our conversation or evening as is increasingly common.
Food was very good, but the service was extremely slow. Not the server’s fault—just too few servers for too many diners. Guess it depends on one’s expectations, but I hope they can improve the balance. We made our reservations weeks in advance but still had to wait for a table and were there longer than we might have expected. We had told the restaurant in advance that we were celebrating 3 birthday—id’s could have been provided if they were skeptical—and not a single offer of a dessert or even a candle was made. This restaurant had been suggested for special occasions, but I’m not sure why.
We have enjoyed the Waterfront restaurant for many years. Our son and his new bride chose the Waterfront for their wedding dinner. We have celebrated anniversaries and birthdays there with friends and have always has great food and wonderful service. It is one of the few restaurants on AMI that will take reservations which is necessary during season.
This was the one place that I made a reservation at on Anna Maria Island and we were so glad that I did. We dined on the 5th and were fortunate to have Al as our server. Al was outstanding throughout our stay and he is a real asset to this gem of a restaurant. Once we ordered an adult beverage for my wife we started with the soup of the day and tropicale salad. Both were very good. Entrees were the risotto julienne and roast beef. I also ordered the truffle tots for us to pick on. Both entrees and those addicting tots were perfect plates. We did not make it to dessert, but will certainly be back in the future. Make that reservation and do arrive on the earlier end of service so that you can sit outside to enjoy the whole experience.
Menu items are outstanding cuisine and good value. Calamari are the "world's best". Server brought us one free Key Lime Pie dessert for our birthday girl. She overheard us talking about a birthday. The Waterfront sincerely cares about it's customers. Great Hospitality!
The Waterfront Restaurant was the Gem I've been searching for. We've been looking for a restaurant that serves craft cocktails and farm to table like food for quite sometime near the area. I'm glad we found it...This restaurant doesn't disappoint. Every course we had was Amazing!!
We arrived on time and the table was not ready even though we has a reservation . We waited in the bar and decided to have a cocktail. Surprisingly the bartender was not friendly borderline surly and appeared to be in a bad mood (and needs better training in customer service). Management comp'ed us an appetizer for the wait and it was delicious and the rest of the food was quite well done. The surly bartender was the main negative.
The Waterfront has really good food, but the average age of their Guests tends to be the older set, making this place feel stodgy on a Saturday night at dinner time. (This was the first time we ate here for dinner. Have been a few times for lunch.) There are a lot of newer options in town, even compared to just 2-3 years ago, that make the Waterfront not worth the drive to AMI from Sarasota. Although it's literally across the street from the Bay, there is not really any view of the water. It does have great, Old Florida character and history! Perhaps more of a tourist spot in the heart of AMI on the weekends. As locals, we left feeling a little disappointed. Better for a breezy lunch on a weekday.
Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with this visit. We had been ther about 1 month ago and it was great. Our server was cold, not friendly, no smiles, could have cared less! Our drinks were took a while to come, my husband sent his dinner special back after struggling with it for a while(he didn't want to fuss, meat was tough). We have always enjoyed it there, but it'll be a while before we return!
Only thing incorrect during the evening was ordering a vodka martini straight up, and having it arrive in a champagne glass. Really took the edge off the $9.00 drink. Also how about plating salads on a cold plate? Also would enhance the taste.

As regular visitors to the Waterfront, we always find everything just as we expect. Every time, every meal , always top quality. The friendly ,knowledgable waiters always ensure the dining experience is a memorable one. Eating at the bar is equally entertaining, watching the bartender create cocktails.
Well done Waterfront.
