The Washington House - Pennsylvania
The specials were amazing! The lemon thyme creme brulee was fantastic!
Delicious scallops and filet. Great carrot cake and lemon meringue fruit tart.
Thank you for your kind words, MarthaF! We have a new pastry chef who is whipping up some delicious new desserts! Visit us again and try some more!
Great atmosphere and friendly, attentive waitstaff. My wife ordered the filet which she thought was excellent. I had the fish special, which was OK but had too many bones for my liking. Overall, a good night out and we will return.
Everything from making the reservation to the desert was excellent. We all enjoyed the evening.
We loved Washington House! Beautiful, historic ambiance and fantastic menu! Our food was delicious and the staff was so welcoming and gracious. We stayed after dinner to enjoy the live music in the bar. Delightful - but not too loud. Perfect!!
Thank you, Chrisam33! We all work hard to keep our old building in good shape and make our guests feel comfortable, and we appreciate that you notice. We have a bluegrass jam in the bar on the first and third Tuesday of the month, and a blues jam on the last Tuesday of the month.
We enjoyed some unusual selections on the menu. The crab cakes stuffed with shrimp were scrumptious, and the berry sorbet duo finished the meal perfectly--sweet but not heavy.
The Washington House is next to the Sellersville Theater and is a great place to have dinner before going to a show. Reservations were easy to make using Open Table. Our waiter was wonderful and the service was fast even though it was crowded on a Friday night. I do wish they had a couple more vegetarian options on the menu, but everyone agreed that the food was excellent. We will definitely go back next time we have tickets for a show.
Just s pleasant evening having a pre-show dinner. Menu selection was great, service was wonderful, and dinners were delicious. The only thing holding back a 5 star review was the early close on a Sunday night. Was hoping to have a post show drink at the bar but restaurant was closed at 10pm. Would be nice to allow guests staying post show to have a nightcap before retiring for the evening. Not many other options in walking distance in Sellersville.
Steve- Thank you for your enthusiastic review! We apologize for closing early on the night you visited us! Our bar hours on Sunday are until 11 pm, which usually allows show goers to come down and enjoy a nightcap. Unfortunately, our manager fell ill near the end of the night and closed early. Next time we will be ready for you!
We have been to the Washington house many times and absolutely love it. But this time something seemed a bit, well, off. For starters they were out of half of the menu. But of course we found something that sounded delicious. The waitress was nice but undertrained and sort of clueless. She told us they didn't have and never had the scotch my husband always orders, even though it was on the menu and we have gotten it many times. We were a party of 7. The 4 men ordered draft beers, all different. When they were delivered, none of them got the correct beer Maybe she mixed them up but that is not ok. The entrees came out before were half done with our apps. I ordered the filet mignon with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. The filet was delicious, but the mashed potatoes, which tasted fine, were just a thin scrape on the plate along with 3 limp stalks of asparagus. I was surely underwhelmed with the meal. Staff were standing by the server with the water pitchers laughing and being silly. I felt as if I were in a diner which would be fine if we were in fact in a diner, not spending $160 on the meal for my husband and myself. We felt rushed and unsatisfied. I truly hope this was just an off night. We will probably give them another try.
Dear Dinnertime, You are absolutely right, we were not at our best on your last visit, and some additional training is in the works! Thank you for taking the time to comment, as that can only help us do better in the future. We look forward to seeing you again and giving you the experience you deserve from us.
Brunch in the porch. Great menu. Save room for dessert or take it home!
Thank you, Inthebigcity! We just added bottomless Mimosas and Bloody Mary's as an addition to our three course brunch.
Wonderful old historic building, hostess and server were both very nice and welcoming. They have a pre fixe brunch for only $24 which is a great deal, or you can opt for a la carte items. The food was tasty and presented well.
Very good meal, we had a very good meal with friends. Very nice
as always, excellent!!! We always dine at The Washington House when seeing a show at Sellersville.
A neat hotel with great ambience. My wife and I did an overnight stay as we went next door to the Sellersville Theater for a show. Part of our deal was to add a dinner reservation which worked out quite well. Between the theater and the hotel you can't go wrong.
very nice, a bit tight (limited in space) but very good for a business dinner as well. We brought guests from Italy, all enjoyed the food and different beers. Very nice servers.
Never disappointed with dinner before a show at Washington House! Fabulous menu with delicious options for everyone! Also great tap selection as well as wine!
Wish we were closer to visit more frequently!
Incredibly great Seabass. One of the best preparations of ever had. Our waitress, Rachel did a wonderful job of making sure that we made it to the show one time next-door.
We go once a month. The beer tasting is a nice event. Highly recommend.
Celebrating our daughter’s 21st birthday with extended family and friends was made even more special because of the great care and delicious cuisine the Washington House has to offer.
Great meal before show
This was our first time at the Washington House. We celebrated our 41st anniversary. We really enjoyed it.
The server, Natalie, was very accommodating and friendly. The roasted pork and hominy soup was delicious. So was the liver pate. We both loved them. My filet mignon was excellent. Very tender and cooked exactly as I asked. My husband said the chicken wasn’t as good as he expected it would be. A little fatty and not much taste.
Overall, we enjoyed the experience and the meal. And we appreciated the free champagne for our anniversary. Thank you!
The crab/shrimp sandwich was delicious. We got to sit outside and enjoy the sights.
The lump crab soup was delicious! Our meals however were both disappointing. The crab and shrimp cakes were mostly filler with pieces of shrimp. For the price, there should have been some crab detectable. Filet was almost okay, but nothing to rave about. We will still visit the WA House as meals in the past have not disappointed.
Thank you for taking the time to review us. We are very sorry you were disappointed in your entrees. We appreciate your comments because it gives us the opportunity to improve. We are changing the way we mix our crab cakes so the crab does not get shredded ad lost in the mix. Please contact me before you return so I can thank you in person and make up for this disappointing visit. Warm regards, Elayne Brick, proprietor
They were very accommodating when I called from the road to let them know we were going to be late for our reservations. The service and food were wonderful. We ate & were ready in time for the show next door. We will be back & tell friends, as well.
The food was very good.
Our food was absolutely delicious! Gabby is a fantastic, personable server!
Food was excellent and done in a timely manner, but the waitress was just OK for a fine dining restaurant. Expected much better service from such a restaurant as the Washington house.
The prime rib was very flavorful, however, the swordfish had no flavor. The server was almost nonexistent until we asked to the check.
Arrived 1 hr before a sold out show so it was crazy busy and took extra long to get served dinner. We were not going to show. We did get our preferred table which was nice. Rule is if there’s a show come 1 1/2 - 2 hrs before. Or after the show starts.
We were celebrating my birthday and everything was excellent. Delicious food, great staff, adorable restaurant.
The room is quite loud when full. Service was a bit slower than usual but overall a good meal as always.
My husband and I both had the wedge salad. A different take on the original, I like it much more. The dressing was not overbearing, perfect in fact. My husband had the N.Y. strip which he said was delicious. I had the swordfish. The pairing with the artichokes was very nice and subtle. The olive tapenade was a little much for me. The tapenade itself was very good. I just preferred the grilled flavor of the fish alone. The waiter was extremely attentive and very jovial. When asked what he recommended, he basically picked out everything on the menu but 2 items explaining each one and why he liked them. I think I ended up getting one of the two items that he didn’t point to. Atmosphere was nice and my husband and I had a great date night.
The drinks from the bar were watered down so much so I returned the first one. When we received our first course, this soup was cold and had to be returned to the kitchen to be reheated. We had to go get our server in order to have certain items taken care of. In the end, the hostess offered to pay for our desserts which was very appreciated.
The food was good, the service was excellent, but it was a bit pricey for me and my teenage son to eat before a concert next-door at Sellersville Theater. I knew the prices were on the high end, so I won't really complain too much.
It was quite dark in the restaurant area. It did take some time to get used to it, but it was a bit darker than I was comfortable with.
I would recommend and I would eat there again. Just be prepared to pay a bit higher prices here than a nice family restaurant.
Thank you for a wonderful lunch and time spent with a colleague that is leaving our work family.
We chose to stay in this hotel in conjunction with a concert to be held at the venue as part of the complex. The hotel was an unexpected delight, and the dining room was beyond expectations! Absolutely great experience!
Great location, nice bar before dinner, great service. Definitely recommend.
great spot for a cozy dinner. nice selection of beer and wine and food is well prepared and inventive. you can choose from an inexpensive sandwich menu or the reasonably -priced dinner menu. staff is friendly and nice. food is great!
Great resturant, there are some pricey entrees and some afordable sandwiches here. Its a classy place but somehow you can have a easy night out too, seem like they do it all pretty well. The food has been good on our last few visits and the service is good too. This place would be good for anniversaries or dates, they really have it set up to work well on all kinds of outings.
Our waitress Gabby was awesome. The Father’s Day food & drink specials were incredible- nothing at all to complain about!
