The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street the Walnut Room is the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. With Circassian wood paneling imported from Russia and Austrian chandeliers, the 17,000 square foot dining room is both elegant and comfortable. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theatre district the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show. And don't forget about the Wine Bar at the Walnut Room. Opened in November of 2007, the Wine Bar features a small plate menu as well as more than 20 wines by the glass. After all, in our store, we have been feeding the shopping tradition since 1905.
Enjoy a classic Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie, French onion soup, or choose from the more contemporary menu offerings created by some of the country's best known chefs as members of the Macy's Culinary Council.

The Walnut Room was a perfect location for my business meeting guest who’s office is in walking distance. Everything went well.

Very nice but service is a touch slow. Not a great beer selection (no drafts) but a nice wine menu.

My mom and I dined here this week and we couldn’t have been happier! Our server was friendly and attentive and our meals were both delicious. My mom had the chicken pot pie and it tasted exactly the same as she remembered it growing up. We chose this location for our special occasion meal because of tradition and ambiance! It’s very conveniently located from the theaters too.

We had a wonderful time and the food was delicious. Our waiter was not too busy, however, was also not very attentive to our table. We had empty glasses multiple times that took forever to be refilled with water and pop. We had the soup and sandwich, the famous chicken pot-pie, and a mint ice-cream pie. The food was very tasty and the prices were very reasonable. We will come back and pray our service is a bit better.

When we arrived, we told our server that we had a 2:00 show time. She brought our food out quickly and everything was beautifully presented and delicious. It was a lovely dining experience.

What a shame! This once grand room visited by people from around the world is now a dump. I would not recommend it to anyone for any thing.

Overall, it was a good experience but the wait time for the food, and seating was frustrating. Rather than spread people around the restaraunt, we were all bunched up under the tree. It took over 45 minutes get room, we had to eat quickly to make our show.

The Walnut Room was beautifully decorated. We were so glad we were able to get there before the tree came down. We went before going to the Oriental Theatre, and it was my sister's first time. Lovely time, and oh so good food!

The service was mediocre at best. Our nice waiter informed us that the kitchen was running 20 - 25 minuets behind. Our appetizers and plates were not removed when the entree was served forcing us to stack the dishes ourselves to make room for our lunches. One person in our party was served her meal about 15 minuets after the rest of us. It took us quite a while to wave down a waitstaff person to tell them about the forgotten meal. The service was very poor compared to previous visits to the Walnut Room.

I thought the food and service at the Walnut Room were great. We were seated at our reservation time and I would recommend it to my friends. I will say that the large Christmas tree in the center of the room is absolutely the ugliest christmas tree in the western hemisphere!!! It really took away from the ambiance of the room. Previously, when the tree was displayed in the Walnut Room when it was Marhsall Fields store at least it looked like a real Christmas tree and made the room very pleasant. This current tree is a disaster!!.
