The Walnut Room is beautiful at Christmas time! Unfortunately the food is a step above a college cafeteria. All our meals today were warm, not hot. The food is OK, but definately tastes mass produced.
The food was excellent!
The service was not so good. Our waitress was hard to contact! We couldn't get water for quite some time!
Then when we got the water our waitress never came back to ask us if we needed anything else.. or how was everything okay.
Slow service on the waitress Part.. but the food was very good!
My server Jose was an absolute pleasure and highly recommended my food and it was delicious thank you so much for making our 1st time experience a unforgettable one..Merry Christmas to all
We had 2 little ones and just sat at the the table entirely too long. I know they were probably short staffed and or server was very nice but we didn't even get to order our mains for an hour. The babies melted down by 90 minutes in and it was hard to enjoy the last 15 minutes of dessert. In fact, we never even got the snowman dessert for the 2 year oldbut we couldn't stay any longer. I understand the Dustin and I'm grateful we were able to get in just letting folks know, be patient, bring things to do for the kiddos, it might be awhile
Wonderful way to begin the holiday season. Pretty magical.
Stephanie was our server and outstanding! We didn’t wait and were right under that tree!
We had a wonderful lunch. Our waitress Diamond was great!
It was a wonderful way to get into the holiday spirit. We lucked out and got a spot right by the tree. I loved that tte restaurant was less crowded (in terms of tables being on top of one another) than in years past (Thanks covid but not a bad thing). We could actually carry on a normal conversation without shouting at at another. Food was delicious as usual!!
Going to the Walnut Room at Christmas time has been a yearly tradition since my kids were born. The menu has been cut in half, but that is due to COVID. Staff was friendly and interactive. Food good.
THe Walnut Room has been a family tradition and did not disappoint! Food was delish as always!!
Seemed dirty - and we always like to give restaurants grace these days so are very patient - however they weren’t ready for our party even though we had made reservations months ago - took 30 min to just get water (they were NOT busy ) and we were told to “order drinks now” cause bar tender was going home .it felt rushed . None of our food was hot and nobody checked in to see how the food was . Oh- and we only received half the drinks we ordered .
Although the menu is paired down, the food was delicious and piping hot.
Black Friday dining. Tree was beautiful. Food was just ok. Server was eager but very new and was not a great experience. I didn’t receive my drink until after the food arrived. I am glad we went but not sure it will be going back in the future.
Beautiful restaurant. Poor service. Sat for 25 minutes before we were greeted. Waiter took food and drink order at same time. Food came immediately and was not hot. We finished food before our drinks came. Waiter didn’t ask how anything was or for refills once drinks came. Took forever waiting for him to come get the $ so we could leave. Glad we visited once to see the place but won’t be back.
Great ambiance and service.
Went to the Walnut Room after shopping on Black Friday. There was no wait upon checking in, as I had made reservations weeks in advance. Not impressed with the tree or decorations this year. The entire restaurant was very dark and poorly lit. We had to use the flashlights on our cellphones to read the menu, and made the mistake of shining it on the dirty, filthy carpet. Our waitress informed us that they were out of the soup of the day, which seemed odd since it was still fairly early(4pm). We ordered the lobster bisque instead, which was delicious. We also ordered the chicken pot pie, the braised short ribs, and the meatloaf. The crust on the chicken pot pie was just floating on top and very hard to break up into bite size pieces. The gravy inside was extremely thin and runny. I had to ask for a spoon in order to eat it. Also, the peas and carrots in it were cold and hard, like eating them raw. The mashed potatoes served with the short ribs and the meatloaf were cold as well. We shared a piece of the mint chocolate ice cream pie for dessert. It was good. On a plus side, the eggnog Brandy Alexander was fantastic. Overall, it was a somewhat disappointing experience this year. For the price we paid, I will definitely go someplace else next time.
I have been coming down to the Walnut Room during the Holidays for as long as I can remember, but this is the first time that we were able to make reservations in advance.. This was such a wonderful experience! No lines and no crowds of people waiting at the entrance, which meant minimal noise, where in years past it was quite crazy at times. The staff were excellent and took care of our every need. Extremely pleased with our visit.
Work Lunch. We got a table by the window, with not a very good view of the tree/decor, but you could take a pic up by it. Staff very friendly.
Ok but too
How was The Walnut Room? -- Awesome as always. I messed my reservations up .... I had the wrong day - she took care of me and my family at the Check-In -- thank you very much.
Schwane is amazing. Excellent service and we had a good laugh too.
My server Samantha was fantastic. She recommended items that were out of this world. The cider glazed turkey was so moist and flavorful.
The slice of carrot cake was fantastic.
The Lobster Bisque is the best we’ve ever had. We also enjoy the Chicken Pot Pie. Nice portion, lightly seasoned, and came with a fresh spinach salad with a nice light dressing. Our server was very efficient and pleasant.
Also beautifully decorated for the holidays.
Amazing , from start to end everything was perfect
Great Thanksgiving Eve dinner! Our server, Robert, is one of the best you could ever ask for!!
Wonderful food, great service. Really enjoyed our time at the Walnut Room. Kids get a free mug with kids meal while supplies last. That was a nice touch to add to our trip to Chicago.
Food was not good at all. Our salads were soggy and mashed potatoes were cold. We asked for waters and never got them. Just overall not good.
Always a special holiday treat to eat under the Great Tree at the Walnut Room and this year did not disappoint. The menu was the best selection yet with tasty desserts too. Great service!
It was great. We we’re seated right by the tree.
The server was not attentive to the table.
I just don’t understand the hype. Service was terrible and the food just mediocre.
Was beautiful this time of year! First time taking the kids and we had a wonderful seat by the tree! Can’t wait to make this a tradition!
Annual holiday lunch. The food was ok. The service and ambience were great !!!
We LOVE our annual Thanksgiving Eve trip to eat in the Walnut room and visit Santaland!! It's our favorite family tradition. This week our server was nice, but never refilled water, never brought dessert menus and we had to remind him twice to bring the collectors glass I ordered. He seemed disinterested in our dining experience. However, the food is always good, the fairies were delightful and the atmosphere is incredible and that is what brings us back every year. It's a beautiful tradition and we wouldn't miss it!!
Thank you Macy's and the Walnut Room for continuing this beloved tradition so generations can experience the wonder of the Walnut Room!!
Our waiter was very attentative and knowledgable. He was busy but we never had to flag hom down. Appetizers drinks and lunch was served on a timely manner
Annual holiday trip to walnut room! Had a wonderful time and the food and ambiance was great!
I was impressed with the efficiency of our server. The food was good, and it was hot .I am 70 and wished for a more traditional tree. That was the only thing.
We go every holiday season and this year was the best. Johnny, our server, was the absolute best! He’s the best server we’ve ever had. The Christmas tree was beautiful and having a reservation instead of the old way of queuing up was a 1000% improvement. We’ll be back!
Everyone was great! Great service and food!
Lovely dining room and excellent service with the most boring, tasteless, mushy food intended not to offend, confuse, excite or even interest the blandest taste buds of Midwestern suburbs and small towns.
