The place was clean and beautiful. Food was delicious and staff courteous and so welcoming! Next time I am in Chicago I will visit again.
I appreciate that the room has a rich historic but nothing I experienced did that justice. The food was mediocre, at best. The famous pot pie was simple a scoop of fill in a ramekin with a crust topper. The quiche tasted frozen.
The pot pie was very good, but my friend said that the salmon was just ok. For such a remarkable space, it saddens me they took the bar counter out. Service was great and attentive. The open table reservation system does not reflect reality. It’s definitely nostalgic and great to make new memories. There was just something missing that did not make it like the Marshall Field’s former experience.
The Walnut Room continues to be perfect in every way: The food, the management, the ambience, the servers! Everyone is so gracious, warm and thoughtful. Absolutely lovely...it is such a pleasure to dine here
Wonderful historic restaurant! Service was excellent! Food delicious!! Thank you!!
I didn't like it really. The waitstaff were nice. A lot of tables and space. I wondered why they didn't spread us out a little more. Food was mediocre and not as hot. They brought salad and entrée out together.
Best chicken pot pie and meatloaf. The Frango mint pie is also delicious
Fabulous food, atmosphere and service.
We really enjoyed our server, Myla. Prompt service and a very sunny disposition.
Thank you Kathleen!
Excellent food and service. The waiter Sven was super friendly and schooled us on the history of the Walnut Room's Pot Pie history.
Our waiter, Swen, was prompt and courteous. The food was excellent, as usual.
Great place to eat on a Wednesday for lunch. Quiet good service, nice food. Get there before holiday rush!
Great. As always!
Dining at the Walnut Room is like walking back in time. With a beautiful view of Chicago, the diner is more than safely spaced from other diners. The service is truly the best. My father has celiac disease and was helped extensively by our wonderful server to choose gluten-free options. The drinks were inventive and delicious, and the food was amply portioned comfort food that hit the spot for a day of theatre and shopping.
Latonya our server was great. And the food was excellent!
As always, a wonderful experience. All of the wait staff were polite. Fast service, yet still leisurely. Will be back soon!
What a lovely place to have lunch and enjoy the beautiful views of downtown Chicago.
Quiet, cool and a great view of the city. We would go back.
Lovely setting. Delicious Food. Great ambience. Nice view of loop. Reasonable Prices.
I love that the chef will continue to make the Field's special salad even though its no longer on the menu
A friend of mine was visiting from out of state. Thought about this place since I haven't been there myself as well. Online reservation was fast and easy. The restaurant was spectacular. I was very impressed with the ambience and the decor. Our server, Steven, was very nice and friendly. Being there on a Sunday, our option was limited to the weekend brunch. The lobster bisque was delicious. I rate it 8/10. My friend went for their signature chicken pot pie while I opted for the Alaskan salmon cake benedict. We decided to share our entrees so as to get a taste of both. I would give the pot pie a 6/10 while the salmon gets a 9/10. We finished the course with chocolate brownie sundae (5/10) and toffee pie (7/10). As for drinks, we both had mimosas. Overall, I would say that my experience was great. Considering the time we went, it wasn't crowded at all. We didn't feel rushed at all. The price of the food was fairly reasonable considering the portion size. And certainly the venue/location. I would most certainly recommend the restaurant to anybody for a great dining experience in Chicago!!!
The Walnut Room has been a long time favorite of mine and I am ecstatic that it has "hung on" through our Covid trials. The brunch menu is super -- I almost always have one of the long-time specials, Chicken Pot Pie (which has reverted from the puff pastry version of many years to the original pie crust menu again) but this time I tried the quiche for the first time. It was truly delicious. I would have had some ice cream or something but we had theater tickets so didn't have enough time.
I have been going to the Walnut Room since I was a child. Nothing has changed other than it isn't Marshall Fields anymore :(. Glad it will never change!! :)
Very limited brunch menu. Not your typical breakfast food. Chairs need some renovations.
The waitress was welcoming, gracious, competent, and kind. She made our meal most pleasant and enjoyable. Her 15 years of service was obvious in her abilities to make our meal memorable. Well done!
Always a lovely place to dine when in Chicago. The Frango Mint ice cream pie is as good as always!
For a brunch, the menu was limited and not what I imagined for choices. The pastry basket was filled with cold pastries that were likely sourced from a big box store. The strawberry mimosa was delightful! The pot pie was good, but it was the only thing slightly appealing to me and not what I wanted to eat for brunch.
A good value for the money and a step back in time to more refined surroundings
The lobster bisque is fantastic, but the soup offering could change daily so it's good to check in advance
The menu is limited, but covers the crowd favorites well. Service is good, with some problems on food delivery to the right table. Pricey. The trio that was playing was pretty loud.
One of my favorites in Chicago for 40 years. Today there was a problem with the live music being too loud for me.
Such a great enjoyable historical spot for a meal.
We brought our grand daughter to the Walnut Room to celebrate her 13th birthday. She was very pleased with the grandeur of the room. It was her first fine dining experience!
We got super lucky to find this place and enjoy jazz brunch. Really good band and great service. But food was so so. Not fresh pastry, not the best Benedict but overall it’s still very pleasant experience :)
Lovely lunch! The beautiful room with a view of thr city was lovely. The food was delicious and the service was awesome! Will be back!
Two of us had the chicken pot pie with side salad. The side salad was absolutely excellent. The chicken pot pie was very good.
The third member of our party had the brisket which she said was excellent.
While we had reservations, they were unnecessary. The restaurant was less than 25% full and everyone who wanted to could sit at a window table which I highly recommend.
Small and excellent menu
Franco mint ice cream pie will be dreamt about for awhile
Delicious food! A great place for memories at the holidays and a nice place in the off season when it is not so crowded and loud.
We have eaten at The Walnut Room many times over the years, and while it's still there we wanted to go again, maybe for the last time (we're in our 80s).
Everything was lovely, and we enjoyed it . . . just sad to see it so empty.
Nice and quiet experience
