The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.

The Walnut room was once a grand place but it has seen better days. Everything we ordered was delicious and the staff was very very nice and the once Marshall fields/no Macy’s is a beautiful building. It is on the seventh floor surrounded by closed small restaurants and a desolate array of small departments of retail. So pretty much looks abandoned. A huge space with a little to no people in there. I would love to see it lively, filled with people enjoying this once great space. We have the French onion soup, the walnut burger and the fried chicken and it was all delicious.

My Fairy Brunch experience with my granddaughter and daughters was excellent. The fairies were awesome and took “lots” of time with my granddaughter. The staff was pleasant and accommodating. This is my second time at the Walnut Room and definitely not my last. Our family is looking forward to Christmas Brunch. Thank you for giving my family such a wonderful experience

I brought a friend with health problems. The waitress was so kind and helpful. The menu was attractive. It was the perfect place to come and bring someone. The room was quiet and the waitress gave us a nice table. It was a lovely time.

Such a great place! I used to only come for Easter with my family but “visiting home” from Arizona this time and went during the week for no occasion other than to get great food. Food was so good as always. We were some of the only people in the restaurant this time which was a huge difference compared to Easter time so noise level was extremely low. Definitely make it a priority to go to when in Chicago for a short while.

Go to the Walnut Room. The food was fantastic and the service was so great. It is such a lovely room. There were not many people there when we went so only pry if the room was in use, which was sad because it’s such a great place. I would go back again for sure!

This iconic restaurant is large and unfortunately largely empty. It’s nonetheless a quiet, comfortable space, and the service is very good. The menu is limited to several items, none of which are particularly appealing, and the food itself is just so so, though we did not happen to try any desserts at the time if our most recent visit.

I limited menu but delicious food. Very quiet Thursday night dinner around 6 pm. Every time I’ve eaten at the Walnut Room I have enjoyed the food. Highly recommend the smash burger. Have also enjoyed their vegetarian roast as well as the meatloaf dinner.

The Walnut room's petite salad was so delicious that with every bite, we wanted more. The meatloaf made with spinach and pine nuts was so good we decided we had to come back specifically to order this and the petite salad. The waiter was wonderful with his recommendations of the dishes and answering our questions. He was so polite and just the perfect server.

Walnut Room has really gone downhill over the years! It all looked very dated and the carpet was filthy. It was great for small children as could run around and no one seemed to care. The food was not good. There was no one at the parfait station abd kids were using their dirty spoons to get more yogurt and pick through the fruit. Pretty cheap for an Easter buffet, but will just pay more and go somewhere nice next year.

Our server was excellent; very professional and friendly. The buffet food could have been just a tad bit warmer. It didn't seem like those silver food holders really kept the food very warm, but the quality and variety of the selections was outstanding.
