James great waiter- food good and reasonable prices
Our server was fantastic! Good food and very ornate architecture. I recommend for lunch.
the best dining experience in downtown Chicago. We had such a great meal the first night that we went back and took my Grandson the next evening. Food was outstanding and wow what a view! Thank you for the memory!
Wonderful lunch! We stumbled across the Walnut room while searching for a place to eat, and we were blown away by the ambiance, the food, and the pricing. I’ll absolutely go again, and recommend it to anyone going to Chicago.
Great service, great food, at a great price. My favorite place for lunch meetings.
Great restaurant with affordable prices, but limited choices.
There were fewer options than on my previous visits. The food is good but not exceptional. The rolls on offer were somewhat dry. The "precarved" (as compared to carved on demand) beef was not particularly juicy. The asiago chicken and the salmon and tomato were tasty.
Very good food and reasonable prices. The service was pretty slow, which was our only issue.
We were for our wedding anniversary and it lives up to our expectations; great place and food
We really do not eat there enough. It’s always such a nice experience. The hostess and servers are so kind and friendly. If they’re not super busy they’ll take time to chat and get to know their customers and everything there is just top notch. The food is delicious, their wine is to die for and the Frango Mint cheesecake is heaven on earth. Not to mention the price you’re paying is comparable to most restaurants and much nicer.
We really enjoyed our visit and subsequent meal at Teh Walnut Room. Friends had told us about it and it sounded interesting. Our server, James, was phenomenal! He was fun, professional and really kept us moving as I had to get to another appointment right after dinner. I had the meatloaf and my wife the asiago crusted chicken and they were both great. The prize of the night was the chocolate-mint cheesecake. Made from Frango mint, it was to die for! A wonderful evening at a really nice place.
Everyone was kind and the service was great. The hostess was accommodating.
The room was very cold and uncomfortable. This has happened the past three times I’ve eaten at the Walnut Room. It was so uncomfortably cold that everyone, in a party of 6, wore their coats. The food is always great and the service provided by Miguel was outstanding!
Small buffers but it was good for the price.
Much better than a Christmas season brunch visit.
Maybe being early vs near the end of the time made a difference.
Will definitely return.
If the had disappointed again it would come off our list.
Not one of the better experiences this time. Saturday night and should have been much better with the light crowd. The kitchen was overwhelmed and food took forever even with the scaled down menu selection. I ll come back because it is Walnut room.
Great experience in Chicago. The food and service was good. We especially liked that it was so close to the theatre.
Bruce our server was outstanding! Food awesome! Love the food and history of the Walnut Room!
Excellent my wife birthday and I've raved about the Walnut Room where her Uncle ( my Supervisor then) but didn't know the 2 was kin always brought the Sales crew up to when we worked on State St. In the 80's. We went to see Hamilton after dinner and recommended to all we spoke to at intermission.
Had the cheeseburger best ever order beer too go with burger one bite left when he finally brought beer
I was really disappointed in our experience at the Walnut Room. Our waiter was nowhere to be found for most of our evening and our food felt and tasted old and reheated.
Food was delicious, service was great. We got to sit by the windows which was a great view over State St. but just cold (it was 20 degrees outside) just make sure you bring a sweater or scarf. Very nice wine pours helped! : )
My server was excellent. His recommendation to have the White Chocolate Bread Pudding for dessert was spot on. Perfect end to a great lunch.
A lovely place for a lunch gathering while shopping. Lots of wonderful memories.
Great food at reasonable prices. It feels a little cavernous at lunch with all the unoccupied space. Too bad more people don't take advantage of the Walnut Room for a weekday lunch.
One of my favorite places to visit and have a wonderful lunch is at The Walnut Room. Excellent food and service.
I grew up eating the Field's Special at the Walnut Room. Still love it. Was with a friend who has numerous dietary restrictions. Our waiter was fantabulous as he learned what it was and gathered info to help with ordering. Truly fantabulous. We enjoyed sitting by the windows to catch the beauty of looking out on the street and just seeing the still beautiful, old room. AND, we splurged and shared a piece of Frango Mint Ice Cream Pie. Everything that used to be wonderfully delicious still is.
Disappointed that they have stopped serving rolls with their entrees.
The Walnut room is such an icon restaurant. The chicken pot pie is so delicious and all their salads are fresh and delicious. It is really pretty during Christmas but anytime is a great time to dine at the Walnut Room.
Consistent, reliable, good food in a relaxing atmosphere. Not a large menu but enough choices to keep everybody satisfied. Always the reliable standbys like the "Field's Special Salad" (sandwich).
Haven't eaten in the Walnut Room for about 18 years and was so pleasantly surprised at how good the food and service were. I'd remembered the room as very dark but we were seated beside the window and even though they need a really good cleaning, it was really an enjoyable meal.
Great restaurant with great food and great service 👍
Very enjoyable meal and experience and very close to the Chicago Theatre. Our waiter was great and made it a fun evening. Had the classic pot pie and was not disappointed. My wife had salmon with asparagus risotto and it was also very good.
The steak was well done when I asked for medium and the potatoes were dry. The waiter was very nice and the view by the window was great.
Delicious food, great service, very nice view. Love the Walnut.
I wanted to check out the Walnut Room for lunch during the non-busy season (i.e., not Christmas) and was pleasantly surprised. It was quiet, so a great for a business lunch, the service was great, and the food was fast and delicious. Plus you cannot beat how pretty the room is! I will definitely go again. And I would love to check out the wine bar after work some night.
This was my first visit to The Walnut Room and was not disappointed. Great food and great service. Great deal for Restaurant Week. Definitely on list to visit again!
Sadly the Walnut Room is now like Macy’s the store itself… Disappointing, unorganized, frustrating and a mess. I will give the staff a slight break due to the fact that they were very short staffed however the dining room itself was freezing and uncomfortably cold. Service was slow, however they were very apologetic. My biggest beef is with the food… I got their signature dish the chicken pot pie and it was a congealed mass of goop, awful. The people I were dining with also were served lackluster meals and it’s a shame considering the price they charge you. Will not be going back. The Walnut Room was a Chicago institution, it is no longer. And Macy’s is to fault for that.
