The View Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Prixe fixe at $89 per person with none if the extras usually seen at that price point. Appetizers good but very small potions (for ex. Only 2 shrimp in a shrimp cocktail. Main dishes ok, but salmon very peppery to point of being unappetizing. Desert was biggest hit. Paying for view of city but without a window table you could be anywhere.
This restaurant is not at all like the pictures on the website. It is a fixed price 3 course meal of mediocre food. It was around $450 with tip for a family of 5. We had the steak, it was just ok and it came with flavorless carrots and mashed potatoes. You would be better off going to Del Frisco's or another real fine dining restaurant to spend that kind of money. The only saving grace was the staff was very kind and accommodating. The restaurant does rotate but it's dark and the view is dark, again not at all like the pics on the website.
The meal is pricey and the wines are higher priced than other restaurants in the area, but the food and atmosphere was phenomenal. The lamb shank was one of the best I've had. Although the chickpea side was tasty, there was too much on the plate. A sweet potato dish would have been better. The NY steak was perfect. The ravioli appetizer was a great choice, especially for those who cannot eat fish. Our service was impeccable.
Service disappointing as they never gave us the rest of our bottle of champagne and we had to ask for a refill once because they take the bottle away from the table. They never came back with our champagne despite requests.
Never refilled our water glasses and we waited a long time for each course.
Ambiance for revolving restaurant but the rest is a mess.
Carpeting was dirty and needs replacement or cleaning.
Sorry guys but over $300 dinner needs big improvements.
The view was nice but, I made the reservation a month ago and when we got there we were told we would have to wait 45mins for a window. Our waiter was always in a hurry and acted like we were putting him out when we had to ask for more water or had questions about the menu. That sat another couple next to us that had a baby. The baby cried the entire time. We asked to be moved or to have management say something to them. We have three children of our own and we did bring them because this is not that type of restaurant. I guess next time we will bring them and play who can be the loudest!! The food was very good but the service and ambiance were horrible!! For a $300 dinner this was completely unacceptable especially when we were will to change tables!!
Overall all 4 star. The reception area is not clear and there was no one to meet you. Once in the View our table was not ready. Bear in mind we were already late due to the confusion on the third floor and getting the lift to the 48th floor. No apology. However, the service food and the view of New York is superb and you don't have to have a window seat. We had gone to celebrate my birthday and I was presented with a lovely chocolate ganache cake. Nice touch thank you.
View was nice. Food was TERRIBLE! Worst $325 meal for two EVER! Prefixe menu had very limited choices. We are from Florida and New Hampshire so many of our meals include various seafoods and can tell the taste of good seafood versus poorly prepared seafood. Wife got lobster bisque appetizer. Not creamy. Watery/brothy and very fishy tasting with a few miniscule pieces of lobster. She ate half and had enough. My appetizer was the crab cake which also tasted SO fishy that I couldn't even eat half. They substituted a side of asparagus for the crab cake. Asparagus was very good. I ordered the beef filet which was cooked perfectly but lacked flavor. The wife (being from NH she ALWAYS orders lobster) ordered filet and lobster. Her steak was fine just like mine but the lobster was so rubbery and bad-tasting that the bite we each tried had to be spit out. Also, we ordered a glass of wine and a martini from the bar upstairs while waiting for our table to be ready and the two drinks with tip cost $47. A total of almost $400 for two drinks, a $60 bottle of wine that cost $10 at the grocery store, two filets, two appetizers, and two average desserts (they took the lobster off the bill) is ridiculous. Forgo dinner and go upstairs for a drink and the view and go have dinner somewhere....anywhere else!
So after first finding the “special” elevators(on the 3rd flood. Why 3? God only knows) to get to this place we walk up to the hostess and immediately told to go downstairs. We find another hostess and are seated. We sit and wait for a solid 20 minutes before our waitress comes up. She brings us water. After that she’s gone another 20 minutes and comes back and gets drink order. Another 5-10 minutes pass and our drinks finally show up. Needless to say service sucked. Once we got our appetizer (lobster bisque) and tasted it... man it was bad. Campbell’s soup would’ve been better. I thought wait I’ll just snack on bread. The bread must’ve just come out the freezer cause it was ice cold and I’m pretty sure it was hard enough to hammer in a nail. Then comes the food(filet)... I can confidently say outback or longhorns has a better steak. This had ZERO flavor. All this for a price of 500 bucks for 4 people. Needless to say I would not recommend this to my worse enemy.
I have eaten here twice in the past month, and the food is OK. Not a great value, offer only from a prix fixe 3 course menu, so plan on at least $100 per person. The meat seems to be done consistently well, but the lobster is always over-done, and cold. Also, you don't get the claws, just some claw meat, put in the empty shell. They say it is a 2 lb. Lobster, but it seems small. And there are additional charges for add ons.
Although the restaurant is casual, I don't expect casual service. For the money I am paying, I expect excellent service. There is no excuse, especially from a big hospitality company like Marriott. Usually, there are only two waiters to a section, service starts out strong then fizzles off, as they get busy with other customers. The staff is very nice, and want to give good service, but seem overwhelmed at times. I waited for 15 minutes to order an additional glass of wine. Food is often served cold, and not all at once to everyone seated at a table. People are sitting with food in front of them getting cold, waiting for everyone to be served. (If you want pepper or condiments, you have to wait longer, and grab their attention!) The 2 waiters take orders, serve food and take dirty plates away. I hate sitting with a dirty plate in front of me when I am clearly finished! It makes for a bad dining experience.
The view is nice with the revolving restaurant. The tables are set nicely with linen, candles, and nice silverware, but the wine glasses are cheap restaurant ware. The wine list is moderate affordable, not great, but medium level quality.
In terms of quality, service, and value: medium, fair to poor, not great. Overall: with the view and the setting, it is a nice experience. If only the service goes smoothly!
One more thing. I don't waste food, so when I ask for it to go, I expect all the food to be there. It wasn't? Please follow my instructions.
Also, twice the gratuity section was circled with a big thank you! : ) No thanks!
I came back after 22 years and would like to bring my parents. They were so happy for the view and also food( fantastic quality) Just a little bad thing about the service (Waiter). We are from Italy and waiter was italian. . He used sarcasm but in bin bad when we left also another custumer complain. Anyway he did’t ruin a dinner. We’ll come back!
The only thing The View has going for it is The View. The restaurant has slipped greatly in the last decade or so.
The View - Amazing NYC at night. Nothing more to say.
Ambience - None. A table 20 LOUD women was seated one table away rather than in a separate room. We had to yell the rest of the dinner.
The Food - Steak was marginal, nothing special. My wife didn’t finish it and she loves steak. My lamb shank smelled like something the sheep dropped in a field. Inedible. I told the waiter it was “horrible” and no attempt was made to replace or adjust in any way.
We dropped $260 and it will be the last they’ll see for a long time.
