We last visited 'The View' for a special occasion over 25 years ago. Back then, the cuisine was also special. Now, not so much. The quality is way down, and the prix fixe menu gives very few choices to the diner. The restaurant is still nicely appointed - and of course, the view is still there. We'll probably not be returning anytime in the near future.
Loved everything until they seated a meeting of three large table next to us and the noise level got so loud. Otherwise everything was great.
It was an enjoyable evening. The waiter was excellent and made an extra special effort to provide a special lactose free birthday dessert for my daughter of strawberries and sherbert.
The view of the city was wonderful! It was a perfect ending to our trip!
Limited menu but food was OK. Great views of NYC. Although we were there at sunset so at one point during the rotation sun was directly in my face for a while. (good news is that it won't last the whole meal because the restaurant rotates (literally).
Restaurant was excellent and i would highly recommend the steak.....
I've heard of the resaurant and have always wanted to go. Glad I went. Perfect place for me to attend right after proposing to my fiance.
Expected to be ripped off because of touristy location, but was pleasantly surprised by entire experience. Food and service were great. We ordered extra appetizers instead of dessert. Cocktails were pricey!
We went there to celebrate two children's birthday, they also brought two of their best friends. We all had good time. We loved the view and all four kids enjoyed the dessert so much. If we visit NYC again, we will definitely come again. The only thing is they don't have a table next to the window which can sit 6 peoples. For couples, they will be very lucky since so many window seats are there. Truly a joyful experience though.
Even with our reservation and a plentiful supply of open tables, it took a while to get seated.
Service was decent- nothing above and beyond, even with the lack of a crowd.
The food was decent, but not worth the money; it wasn't all that well prepared.
The atmosphere was nice, but the view of the city was encumbered by another layer of windows and satellite dishes.
It wasn't horrible, but overall our money could've been better spent elsewhere.
The waiter surprised us with a Anniversary dessert which was truly sweet...
I hated our server. She was not attending us properly and the wait time for food was pretty long. Food was good.
Very expensive, but for a special occasion it's a real treat.
The restaurants views were really amazing..... rotating around and you can see a lot of the Times Square nightline. The only downside is that its a priced fix menu and for 2 people with an alcohol drink each it came to a little over 200$. Eh.... for the experience of it, it was ok..... but its just a cool, different thing.
Although we have no regrets because the visual "experience" was worth it (the views are unlike anything you could ever experience elsewhere), this is what you pay for. There is a large disparity between the food experience and the cost. There are definitely touches to the food that are an attempt to glamorize it, but they fall short of the bill.
Great restaurant and delicious food! Our waiter was personable and pointed out landmarks from our view. It was our anniversary and we got a great window table as they even gave us a surprise cake to make our night even more special.
You are basically paying for a once and a lifetime experience with the revolving rooftop floor with a view of New York Times Square and Hudson River but I think the floor above for drinks has an even better view and costs a bit less. The food was just so-so but it was a good experience. I don't think I would pay those prices again.
This was my second time in this restaurant. The first time was 3 years ago and the experience was great but things seem to have go down hill quiet a bit. My experience now was not worth the money spent. This has turned into a VERY expensive so so restaurant.
Overall the food and service were good- the view was not as good as we'd hoped- air conditioning units and neglected building tools/materials on the marriot building itself were view spoliers. Although we had a nice time it was very overpriced- 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 Alcoholic beverages and a bottle of water totall $220 (£140) and we would would not go back again
This is an outstanding restuarant and the 2 friends I was treating to dinner were delighted. Great food, great service....Marvelous experience. We were seates by the window and watching New York go by was great!!!!!
The service was better than outstanding. Both servers were very personable. The food was fantastic. And being able to have a 360 degree view from your seat is amazing.
every thing was great but the menu was poor, there was a limited options
This is our second time to dine here -- Our first was a year ago. It's all about the view as a tourist. What made our first visit better is that our waiter interacted with us so much. At every visit to our table, he would tell us what building we were rotating past at the moment. He was a personable, attentive waiter and also like a tour guide. He made our dinner a total experience, which we loved. We didn't have that experience this time and we missed it. But the view was still spectacular and the food delicious.
We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and found that this was an excellent way of celebrating such a special occasion. The whole team at the view and the hotel were excellent. If you are in New York celebrating any special occasion we would strongly recommend that you book a table at this establishment, the evening views of the skyline are stunning!
Bland food, limited menu and very expensive. Paying for the view but not much else!
Wonderful evening for the whole family. The children (ages 7,13&15) loved the food, the view and the waiter.
The Sunday brunch buffet was amazing! So much to choose from and everything was delicious. I barely ate the rest of the day. The waitstaff was very friendly but we had to search for them a couple of times. I would definitely go back.
Went there for brunch. Understaffed omelet chefs. There was a group of 40 that arrived at the same time as my party of four. Upon the reservation of the group of forty there should have been more staff added plain and simple. The manager should have began cooking when they saw the large line or take orders and deliver them to the tables. The wait was rediculously long. By the time I retuned to the table of four my group had finished the first course. Then the fire alarm sounded and we were told this regularly happens when more than one omelet is cooking. I was alarmed that I was in danger until I was told this always happens. Very unprofessional considering the high price we each paid to be there. I will not be returning any time soon.
I ordered the Filet Mignon, it was good. I especially loved the dessert, Cosmopolitan and the view.
Food was good but not great. Same with service: good but not great. In fact, the reason I am rating it "fair" overall is because the service and food are out of balance with what you pay. For the kind of money that you spend both the food and service should be much better. You will find much better food and service at these prices elsewhere in NYC.
The entire staff made us feel like they were doing us a big favor. I would never recommend this resturant to anyone visiting our Country. Unfriendly is the word.
Kudos to our server Ken who cheerfully served us a civilized, tasty three-course meal in 30 minutes so we could make our show (we were running very late). Loved it!
Go for a drink - not dinner. Resto is dated. View is horrible from the Restaurant. HORRIBLE - all you see is a run down rooftop. You see it on the bar level as well (but its up one floor so less). Food is typical for a tourist trap restaurant.
You are better off at Sbarro in Times Square if you want to eat better food in a crowd rushing to get to the theatre.
"This was my wife and I first time dining at The View and we both enjoyed the atmosphere as well as the view of the city. We had the buffet which had a wide variety of foods to choose from. We pretty much sampled everything there as well as the dessert table. The service was great. Our waitress was quite friendly and checked up on us often to see if we needed anything. Overall, we had a good experience at The View. We will like to see how it is during the evening hours since we dined at the restaurant during the day."
It was a wonderful experience and the waiter Samir was a wonderful person.I couldn't,t ask for more. The food was fantastic and I would recommend the roasted salmon,it,s to die for.
I loved the ambiance in the restaurant, with great views and fantastic food. I was in a group of 8, celebrating a 50th Birthday, the service was excellent and they even treated the Birthday Girl to a cake with a candle!
Booked this for the evening of our Wedding. Just the two of us in NYC. Good food and amazin view. My husband is a little sensitive to motion (even tho it revolves very slowly)it took a little getting used to for him but I was fine. Made the meal special by sending us a personalised dessert with congratulation on and candles. good service x
My family and I enjoyed eating at the View very much. The next time I stay at the Marriott I would certainly try to eat there again.
This is a very nice place to go for that special occasion. The view is fantastic at certain points, but because of taller buildings you are sometimes blocked. The food was very good and the service was exceptional. I went on a weekday evening so the place was not that crowded. Be aware that this is an expensive place to go for a meal. My bill for two with tip and three drinks reached near the $300. tier.
We came here on our first nights stay to new york. The food was delicious and we were well looked after by the staff. Not to mention the fantastic 360degree views, a top night!
As I'm not that good in expressing in English.., for sure I can say that the food and the scenery was splendid. All in all with drinks added to our dinner, for European Standards I think this was not really a cheap meal. For two persons including the ridiculous service charge from $42,- dollars included on the bill..., came out on a total of $309,- I mean..., for us it was a special occasion, but for the normal NYC tourist..., it really is a lot of money.
And what always is a shame in USA in common is the speed of serving out. We began with a cocktail..., specifically told the waiter that we wanted to finish the cocktail before dinner was served... But helas..., just a few minutes later the first food was already served.
