The Victor Cafe Ratings and Reviews
I LOVE this restaurant- every year my best friends and I get together for Christmas here so we can see each other in this wonderful place. The music is just amazing and having the wait staff get up to sing opera is just fantastic. It is a true Philadelphia gem and has been there for a very long time. I hope it is always there for my future Christmas get togethers and special occasions. Thank you Victor Cafe!
The staff could not have been nicer. We were running late for our reservation, and we called to let them know. We were still later than we wanted to be, the hostess called us back to check where we were.
The food was amazing, and the atmosphere was magical. 5 stars all around
As ever we had a wonderful time. If you love opera and similar live music sung by trained wait staff this is your place. Many a birthday, anniversary and probably marriage proposals have occurred under this historic ceiling. Almost a hundred years old, it just imbeds you in traditional Italian south Philadelphia. Doorstep valet parking at $12 (half the price of a parking ticket) makes the entire evening enjoyable.
We LOVED it!! It was such a fun experience. From the moment we walked in to the space we knew we were in for a treat. The food was delicious and the server/ opera singers were a delight. I had heard about this place for years but thought it might be cheesy. Not so!! The singers are professionally trained and excellent. I can't wait to go back.
We discovered this quite by accident and then realized this is the restaurant that Rocky owns in the last two movies. Of course in the movies it's called "Adrian's". If you go, get there a little early and hang out upstairs in the very cool bar, or have an after dinner drink and desert there.
Not only was our server excellent, her voice was exceptional. The talent among all the staff was remarkable with performances at least every 20 minutes.
We began our meal with a cheese plate which consisted of generous portions of six different cheeses accompanied by fig jelly and crackers. Our entrees were delicious, as were the desserts.
Most definitely worthy of a return visit.
We went with 4 adults and 3 kids. We all loved the experience very much. The food was very satisfying and the opera was beautiful. Our kids are asking when we can go back. Our server was gracious and everyone was hospitable toward the kids. The pesto on the tables is delicious.
This is a great place. A hidden gem in South Philly. A classy place. From the minute you walk in the door they great you with a smile and very welcoming. I absolutely love this place. This is my number one restaurant. I have been here many times and I like bringing different people with me and then they love it also!
It has been way too long since we've visited The Victor Cafe. And now we cannot WAIT to go back again! We had a relative visiting from out of town over Thanksgiving weekend, and we wanted to add to his Philadelphia memories. We were so happy with our decision to venture into deep South Philadelphia to have a special dinner at Victor's - the food was better than we had remembered, and the singing? Oh my goodness!!! The waiters and waitresses sang opera every 20 minutes or so, and we were moved to tears! The talent is extraordinary. Our guest said that dinner at The Victor Cafe was the highlight of his weekend. It is an extremely original and wonderful restaurant. Please make a reservation now!
Outstanding fun place to celebrate a birthday. Singers were magnificent and brought tears to my eyes and a song to my heart. Overall a memorable and unique place to enjoy a birthday dinner on our first trip to Philadelphia. Wonderful attentive waitress from Argentina with an angelic voice. What a night,
Victor's is a Philadelphia gem. They have great food and the operatic performances are second to none. If you have not been here before, you NEED to put this on the top of your list. I love the Steve Starr restaurants, but places like Victors and Ralphs is what makes Philadelphia special and to not go to these place is a waste. The mussels were AMAZING and the roasted Bronzino was great for dinner and dinner the next day.
We decided to go to Victor Café over Thanksgiving weekend when our college-aged children were home. I knew that it would be fun but really only expected average food. The food was outstanding and the atmosphere was energetic and fun. The waiters and waitresses were very talented singers. I would definitely recommend it to friends and look forward to going back!
At the Victor, the waiters, waitresses, busboys, and busgirls are all opera singers--and high quality ones at that. So along with your Italian dinner, you might hear excerpts from "Faust", "Eugene Onegin", "The Pearl Fishers", "Figaro", "The Barber of Seville", and whatever else your servers happen to be working up that week. All in all, the format is delightful--especially if you are a music lover. We spent Thanksgiving there, and the $40 4-course prix fixe was an excellent value; oysters Rockefeller, a nice salad, turkey with the trimmings, and a slab of tiramisu, which my wife and I happily shared. My better half opted for a whole fish off the regular menu, still on the bone, and grilled simply as though it had just been pulled from the Mediterranean. The Thanksgiving backdrop along with the musical interludes made the evening a special occasion indeed. (My guess is that even without the Thanksgiving overlay, the music makes for a sense of occasion with each visit.) There's a homey feel to the place, with a fair number of diners who love the music and food enough to come regularly. 1303 Dickinson is easy to find, just a block of Broad Street, which is Philadelphia's main North-South artery. (In case you leave hungry--which you won't-- the Victor is right around the corner from Geno's and Pat's, Philly's fabled purveyors of cheesesteaks!) There's street parking available, and valet service, if you're feeling plush. If you're staying in Center City and don't want to mess with your car, a city cab or Uber won't run you more than 7 or 8 bucks. In sum, the Victor is great night out in every conceivable way.
As always, the Victor Cafe was superb. Uniquely, each server is an opera singer, many are students at Curtis or Temple, and they perform arias throughout your meal. It's a great place for fun, music, and good food. Parking was not a problem as we found a space on the street near by. Go and enjoy yourself.
This restaurant was recommended by friends who used to live in the area. Our experience tonight EXCEEDED our expectations. Great service and the talent is amazing. I almost broke out in tears! Our server Brenna is full of talent! We wish her the best! The food was delicious. We had the buratta and two vegetarian pastas...very good.
Great experience. We recommend this highly.
We loved the Victor Café....the lounge on the second floor was very romantic with the candlelight and couches and the food was delicious. The best part, of course, was the amazing wait staff who sang opera every few minutes. It was probably one of the best restaurants we have every been to.
