The Veranda-Ft Myers
Birthday dinner for my wife. Unfortunately Open Table failed to pass along a request for a special desert to the restaurant.
The Veranda is the perfect place for a really special and exceptional dinner. The antebellum atmosphere, the waitstaff and the courtyard all combine to ensure a delightful experience. The menu is varied and we have never had a bad or even average meal here. While not inexpensive, the Veranda is definitely worth the price.
Service was inhospitable. The Veranda is touted as a first rate, top-of-the-line restaurant. While the food and ambience are excellent, the accompanying service was below expectation. Primary wait staff was impatient and curt. Of our group of six, four commented on poor attitude of primary wait staff. Two of six were first-time visitors to The Veranda, and chance of their return is slim. Separate letter to GM submitted describing experience. Right now, would not recommend. My wife and I will return as we are repeat customers if no other reason than to validate service this time around.
Way over priced. Menu was old, even torn on the crease. Wine menu was impressive, but the bottle we ordered was not available. A substitute was brought but only when I challenged was the substitution explained. I ordered NY strip medium rare. It was properly cooked but slathered with too much blue cheese dressing (which I should have ordered on the side). Vegetables were a mash of green vegetables, way over cooked and all but indistinguishable, mostly beans I think. It took a knife to cut through the scalloped potatoes. Meal ending we asked for a dessert menu. It was given verbally in a staccato fashion. We asked for a check. It felt very much like our meal was rushed. We were quite disappointed.
Very beautiful place with excellent service. However the food was not very flavorful. In the mixed seafood grill all 3 fish were tough.
Fantastic dinner with my lovely wife of 41 years. Big finish with flaming bananas foster!
Food was a bit overpriced but service and atmosphere were top notch, I will definitely return and recommend
Loved the manager Denny and Oscar our server! Great experience and great food! Would highly recommend!
First time at The Veranda and it won't be the last. Food was excellent, service perfect. Don't mind the higher prices when everything was so good. Courtyard was beautiful.
Such a great old school high end restaurant. Live piano, suited waiters, cool old wood decor
This was our second dinner at The Veranda and we would go back anytime we’re in Ft. Myers.
The food is wonderful. Prepared as requested, flavorful and presented very well.
The service was attentive but not intrusive. And the wine list had numerous selections without the usual triple markup. Perhaps double which I think is a steal.
For special occasions but also for a luxurious night out, you can’t beat The Veranda.
Hands down the best meal in Fort Myers!
Food was excellent, Service was great. Wine was a bit warm but I would go again when I’m back in town.
Probably the best restaurant in Ft Myers. Great ambiance in a Civil War era home. We had the spinach salad that was incredible. The halibut was very tasty too.
Our waiter was pleasant, knowledgeable and attentive.
We’ve been here several times over the years and will be back again.
We have dined there for almost 2 decades and have never had a problem. The steak was rare, the veggies were small, the service lacked poise. Bad night that night.
It was truly an awesome dining experience with great food and fantastic service. We will definitely go back.
We ate outside and it was fabulous. Expensive but worth it.
I had heard so much about Veranda and was excited about the experience but at the end of the day was a bit let down. It's very charming and it has a quaint atmosphere. Service seemed to be slow and the waiter did not check back in with us, poor wine, etc. as much as I expected for an establishment with a reputation such as Veranda. Table side Caesar is fun to watch but the overall taste was just okay and during the preparation, balsamic was spilled on my dress. Artichoke fritter was amazing as was the fish special so food was very good overall.
I think they need to step up the service and it would have lived up to my expectations.
Want it all in a dining experience? Then, go to the Veranda in Fort Myers. The setting is an oasis in the middle of an already quaint city.
ARRIVAL: As you enter through the portico entrance, you step into a home setting and warmth. The entrance/bar area opens to you and your are greet cheerfully by a smiling hostess. Now this isn’t a pasted on smile, but a warm, vibrant, yet elegant greeting. The hostess, dressed in black form fitting, but tasteful dress, located our reservations and stated “they would begin to prepare our table for our 8 pm reservation. It will be a few minutes but please feel free to enjoy the bar/lounge area.
PRE-DINNER: We had an 8pm Saturday night reservation and we arrived about 20 minutes before. This early arrival gave us a chance to visit the bar with a baby grand piano the showpiece of the bar/lounge. The piano player was just perfect combining instrumental and vocal selections, rom Frank Sinatra to Billy Joel. While you enjoyed the music, it was not overpowering (we set at the table next to the piano) and we still were able to have a conversation. We were promptly greeted (about 3 minutes or less after being seated at the table) and ordered to cocktails. They arrived in less than 5 minutes. Waitress perfect.
DINNER: The hostess came to our table to say our table was ready. Then, she took great care to escort us, at our pace, to the table, seated us and showed us menus. Then, the evening got even better. Mike our waiter was dressed in a tux and had a great breadth and depth knowledge of the menu selections. He explained the specials and answered our questions as if this was his personal restaurant and he wanted to ensure you were content. He did! He prepared an excellent Caesar Salad, from stratch, tableside. He did the same when we ordered the Chateaubriand. No water glass went empty. No need to want for anything. Mike did it with grace, personality and perfection!
Want a memorable night? Go here!!!
Brett did a great job taking care of us and making excellent suggestions!
Private upstairs room
Very uptight and a bit snobby. Food was just okay. Cold potatoes piped into a bowl with a flower stuck in the top. I think the focus should be on the taste of the food before getting too fancy.
Great service and wonderful atmosphere. We sat inside which was very nice.
Had reservations for 5 pm. Parking lot was already full and used valet service. We were promptly greeted and seated. wait staff was courteous and well informed as to the menu and wine selection.
Waiter took an instrest in where we were from and during our interactions gave us names of other establishments that we should check out. As far as the food it was well prepared and priced about the same as restruants that did not have the history and ambiounce
JUST LOVED IT ! THE FIRST TIME EVER FOR ME AND MY WIFE, DEFINITELY A GREAT PLACE TO GO BACK !
Visiting The Veranda for 27 years, celebrating our anniversary 25 times and each time it was a pleassure
being there. Only once the food was poor.
The service had some ups and downs but on a high level.
The only issue: They are pushing too much. Take your time, even if the table will not be occupied that quickly by the next guest.
Our first visit to the Veranda. Lovely ambiance w/in the restaurant. Food was delicious and we very much enjoyed ourselves. Prompt and attentive waiter Brett.
Everything was excellent!! Our server, the food, the ambiance were all superb!! We will definitely be back more often.
As always, a superb experience. We ate on the patio—John was gracious and helpful. We loved the snails in a garlic-blue cheese sauce. A treat.
Our overall experience at The Veranda in Fort Myers was nothing short of excellent. The waitstaff were courteous and very professional and the food, from the Salad through the Main Course were well prepared and delicious. We did not have dessert as we were too full from the main course. We highly recommend The Veranda for a delicious meal in an excellent atmosphere.
The waiter didn’t acknowledge our birthday and anniversary at all, although we put it in our Open Table reservation. A small miss. The food, atmosphere and other aspects of the service were spot on. We noticed the cozy little piano bar on our way out...we’ll definitely try that another time.
Outstanding service from the time you drive to the front door until you get on your car to leave. Mike is a great server.
Celebrated our 64th Anniversary at The Veranda for about the 20th time. Would have been more but we are “Snow Birds” and only started our celebrations here in Florida 20 years ago.
Service was nice, food was very good and once again, we enjoyed ending our day with a wonderfully elegant dinner.
Thanks to all that served us.
Pete is amazing!!
I really enjoy going to the Veranda...it is a great dining experience and I would definitely recommend the at your table ceasar salad and the rack of lamb.
Always superb!!! Never disappointed; we like that your wine list is reasonably priced.
l have been coming to the Veranda for years. This trip did not disappoint. The ambiance was old Florida elegance. The guests were Florida casual, but the wait staff was black tie as usual. The stuffed artichoke fritters were excellent as was the prime beef. Glad to see that the piano bar is still there.
Our favorite restaurant for special occasions. Wonderful selections for food and drinks with a superb wait staff.
We joined friends to say good-bye for the season. Such a wonderful and peaceful evening, with wonderful service. Food is delicious
Really top notch, elegant restaurant all around. The outside courtyard is so cozy and inviting. Cant sit to go back.
