I'm honestly shocked at the reviews. The food is great as well as the service.
They had a nice full menu with numerous enticing things to choose from. We went with the lobster sliders for starters. It was so hearty and crunch with the celery. It was a nice mix of wet and lobster meat.
Then I had the short rib mash. SO GOOD. The perfect fall of the bone and the flavors...superb. I got fried Oreos a la mode for dessert. As amazing as it sounds.
I've walked past here many times and never thought to come in. That definitely changes things now. I'm happy I tried this place instead of looking at reviews!
Everyone was so amazing and accommodating towards our difficult group!
This is an underestimated dining experience. The food is unbelievably amazing. From the prime rib to the veggie burger, not only is a presentation beautiful, but everything is orgasmic. The dessert was amazing, we had fried Oreos a la mode and with every bite we were moaning with joy it was so good covered with fennel cake batter . Everything was to perfection.
Love everything on the menu. My favorite however, is the ribeye.
The food wasn’t great. The service was appalling. It wasn’t busy at all. The staff were nice though!
The food was great, but the service was lacking. The sweets we ordered came before our drinks. When we did finally get our drinks, they were spilled. The food took a long time to come out and took a while to get our drink refills. It wasn't even that crowded for the service to be so slow. When the bill came it seemed wrong, but we were ready to leave.
Eh waitress was the best part heavy food
Always good food
I loved this place! The service, the food, and the atmosphere were amazing! Definitely would recommend it and definitely would go back again! Best duck wings I've had in NYC so far! The burger and the steak were super filling! Love the attention to detail when it came to the dessert!
Had the shrimp tacos. Chewy and a little hard to digest
Brussels sprouts were good
Drinks were hastily made and lacked cohesiveness between the ingredients
The place was hardly staffed as if we had just missed a big event. I was sadly disappointed with my experience
Went here for mother’s day brunch.
It was reservation only and very busy.
First we sat at the bar and ordered a Bloody Mary which was brown in color and tasted like spicy vinegar... not drinkable., the mix had been pre made. The bartender was nice though and changed it for me.
Res was at 2.15 we did not get our food until almost 3.15. My 7 year old got her French toast which was lukewarm but ok for her to eat but my Cubano was cold not even lukewarm obviously it had been forgotten about on the pass.
My husband did not get the coffee he ordered and his dish came out 5 mins after ours.
The waiter was apologetic and did comp my sandwich and my husbands coffee .
The food was very tasty but I’m not sure I’d go there again. It was busy when we sat down but emptied out about half an hour later so not sure what happened with our order.
Overall the service put us off but maybe it would be better not in a special day!
I called to
Make a mother’s day reservation, but the person over the phone said they were completely booked. I looked online with OpenTable and found many available reservation times (Maybe they had the dat wrong?). Arrived on time and was seated immediately with a high chair for our baby. That was very nice. We waited a while before being greeted by our server, and ordered right away. They brought out our side dish immediately, and it was cold (maybe it was an extra dish they were trying to get ride of?). 40 minutes later our main dishes came out. They were fine. Our server was almost never to be seen, and we waiting a long time until a different server brought us our check. The restaurant advertised a free glass of cava for mother’s, but my wife was never offered one, and it was obvious she was a mother. I thought she would be delighted for the cava, and was hoping they would offer, so that was disappointing. It was very loud in the back room. Maybe they need some sound dampening architecture in there. Out table was sticky and was uneven, warped wood. Not a very good comfortable, atmosphere. It was very casual, and the food wasn’t bad. But maybe it was too casual in many ways that doesn’t match the price point of the menu.
Excellent food and service!! They sat us early and let us relax and eat at our own pace on . abusy Sunday Brunch. Very Pleased.
Great our waitress was AMAZING 🙂
My friend and I had a fab dinner this past Wednesday!!! Everything was exceptional. We started with shrimp ceviche and then curry cod. The dessert was also sick. Fennel cake with vanilla ice cream. Yum all around! The service was excellent. The hostess was very nice and accommodating and our server Nick was extremely nice and knowledgeable re: menu and wine and was beyond attentive. Would we go back? In a heartbeat!
PS great music too :)
Service is great. the server was very kind and the host was understanding of lateness amongst the party.
The service was poor! Took an hour to get our first course and another hour to get our second course. They ran out of wine glasses and our wine was served in martini glasses. Food was cold and over salted. Took 30 minutes to get water for the table. We finished our evening with a chair leg breaking under one of our guests seats. When we left, the manager said, “We are sorry you didn’t have fun.” I had no idea this is what The Vanderbilt considered fun! Never again.
I feel so conflicted writing this review because I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Vanderbilt but it was not because of the food. I dined in with another friend and we had 2 amazing servers who helped us - super friendly and fun. But the food was merrrrr.... Maybe my taste bud had been super picky after dinning at Momofuku earlier the week. And I was quite surprised to learn that a Michelin star chef was the owner of the location?
Anyways, go and enjoy your time there for the drink. I would save $$ on the food.
Perfect spot for a long overdue catch-up with a girlfriend. The waiter was very courteous and didn't make us feel rushed to order, eat or even vacate our table. Food was very well-presented and equally tasty, washed down with a pretty decent bottle of Chardonnay. There was a nice vibe for a Saturday night which created a good ambiance, and made for a very pleasant evening.
We used to come here monthly, but the service has dropped so far off a cliff that I won't come here anymore. The waitstaff is rude, the bathrooms are awful, and though the food is good, it shouldn't take 2 hours to get served.
Took a very long time to get food and drinks
Lovely service and good food. Lamb shank was tender and tasty and the chicken pot pie was warming and generous. Nice place !
The restaurant looks like it is closed - the windows are dirty and the awnings crooked. Inside too dark and too hot. The bacon was thick sliced and undercooked.
Will come back if the place gets polished up and looks more inviting.
Food was good and undercooked bacon could have been fixed.
Went this past Sunday for brunch with two friends, didn't have crazy high expectations for a $26 prix fix (including one cocktail) brunch menu. We got there at 2:30 which is the end of brunch, so I think that was a big factor. They were out of a few things, and our server was a tad on the surly side- again, brunch on a Sunday in NYC, I get it- and she pretty much seemed like it was a huge chore to wait on us. I made a joke when a friend ordered the cinnamon roll vs the beignet (because they were out of beignets) "like you have a choice"- yeah our server wasn't into it. The cinnamon rolls looked and smelled great but were under baked while also being dry and pretty bland, my cocktail arrived like 20 minutes after the rest of my group because they were out of the first thing I ordered.
Our meals were mostly gross- my friend's hash was without the promised spicy hollandaise but covered in like a pickled relish or salsa that completely ruined the entire dish. She didn't eat more than a bite, and at no point did the server notice and say anything. My friend could, however, have opened her mouth and said something so that's on us too. My frittata was a solid half the portion I saw on everyone else's plate, cold and dried out and bland, and the "salad" that came with it was literally a pile of spinach leaves COVERED in red wine vinegar and nothing else. Half my "cottage fries" were burned to a crisp. My friend's breakfast plate consisted of a hash brown hockey puck burned almost beyond recognition, grits that were super bland and still crunchy and some pretty weak scrambled eggs. She said the bacon and sausage were actually really good.
Including tip, I spent $32 on mostly crap. The space is cozy and comfortable and the crowd was cool, and the bartenders looked like they were having fun. The host was really friendly and it wasn't the worst meal I've ever had but it was pretty garbage- we'll never go back for food.
I find the food kind of bland and while the servers are pleasant enough, the service itself is indifferent at best. It shouldn’t take so long to return to a table and offer to fill an empty coffee cup.
Good food, very slow service.
I went for my birthday brunch and it was excellent. Everyone loved their food, the service was excellent - attentive but not pushy - and the overall vibe was chill and trendy without trying too hard. Overall, a great experience.
I would never recommend this restaurant! The food was horrible, all though it was not that many people, the waitress had us waiting for a long period of time to get our food and drinks. The mimosa were supposed to be unlimited for two hours I’m pretty sure we only got one every hour .
We noticed the hostess/server Whitney greeted us with a strange/unfriendly attitude on a 100% empty floor. We came for happy hour. She served us regular menus and reluctantly walked off to actually show us happy hour menus only after we specifically asked twice. Scroll down to view it advertised right here on Opentable/throughout their website lol. But she charged all full priced drinks anyway..and then--on top of that--argued with us. Obviously overpricing the bill, she provided zero apology or smile, and reluctantly produced a new complicated looking bill. I'm a former longtime bartender in the service industry right here at home and we are current teachers with young children. My friend very politely requested the price of each beer, and was snapped at impatiently three times "Ma'am, look at the bill!" Finally Whitney marked us as a "no show" (after she sought us out at the beginning). Lol. We're from Brooklyn and dining on this block before the Vanderbilt came. Delicious fries. We will not return. Go to 'Weather Up' down the block for a completely different experience and one of the earlier bars for a nicer cozy/industrial atmosphere, all complete with impeccable manners. The way you're supposed to be treated :)
The cheese sticks were cold and the burger was very hard to eat. The restaurant was pretty empty and it was a Friday night at 8pm. I was excited to try this place but would never go back.
The inside is nice but the food has been disappointing on two separate occasions now. Sausage was over cooked and tasteless. Burger buns were bad or very old. Potatoes seemed like they were reheated which burnt them and made them tough. Ribeye steak was ordered med rare but was blue. No one even ate half of their plates and the staff didn't notice or care. Waste of a great space. We won't be going back. Don't waste your money unless you just want a drink and maybe an app. And it sucks because we live 2 blocks away.
Horrendous service, the waiters just don't seem to care. On the other hand, the bartender, Michael, made up for the bad service, and was helpful and friendly.
The food was quite good, and the ambiance quite nice.
Bottom line: the waiters have to go, and this will be a great place.
We went for Christmas Eve dinner and were very disappointed. The prefix menu had 4 options for main dishes. All arrived at different times and the prime rib was poor quality. The entire steak was fat. Two of the three steaks ordered were not cooked as requested. For a $60 prefix, this was not up to par.
Wonderful neighborhood joint, great food, go-to happy hour, service-minded staff. Can't say enough superlatives about it!
I have had a number of meals at the Vanderbilt, including a lovely al fresco brunch in 2016, and a great late-night bar snacks/cocktails fandango, and have historically found the quality of the food to be good and the menu diverse and interesting. On our most recent trip, however (Sunday brunch), our entire experience was somewhat lackluster. The kitchen didn't seem to be operating very efficiently, and food was under seasoned and likewise lacked oomph. I ordered the fall salad because it was advertised as containing roasted squash, and was instead delivered a side-salad-sized plate of baby kale with some cranberries and nuts and no squash. Biscuits were overworked and tough. The best thing we had was the brussels sprouts, which are served with a sweet-and-sour, kimchi-esque sauce with sesame seeds and were bright and helped re-energize an otherwise tepid dining experience. Maybe everyone was just a little tired from their respective Saturdays!
It took 15minutes to even get water. Waitress was rude and inattentive. Food reached our table cold, probably because it was sitting on the counter for a long time.
Do yourself a favor and go to one of the many places down the road.
The breakfast plate portions are very generous and tasty. But they should rename the "hash browns." It was a deep fried potato cake oozing with grease. Really unappetizing. And the coffee is so so. But otherwise a decent brunch.
Went for brunch, the cinnamon bun was great but the rest of the food was so salty it was almost inedible.
The food was delicious. Unfortunately, the Staff was inattentive and rude. I don’t think we will return to The Vanderbilt.
