Wonderful experience. We were greeted by name at the desk (I guess because of the reservation) I loved that personal touch. Our dinner was outstanding! The best rib eye steak I've ever had. It wasn't overly seasoned so I could enjoy the taste and it was so tender, I know they must carefully choose their beef. My husband had the halibut. It was moist and cooked perfectly. The scalloped potatoes that came with my steak were outstanding. Our vegetarian at the table enjoyed the sides and a wonder burette salad. The service was superb. Our waiter didn't hover, but popped up out of no where when our glass was empty and delivered the check subtly, which is an art in handling customers graciously. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We found The Valley Kitchen on Trip Advisor, and I liked the look of the restaurant's atmosphere. They were one of the few restaurants that had a last minute reservation on a Friday night, so we booked. It was in a gated lodge area, and we were told by the attendant to drive all the way up. It's literally all the way up until you see Valet. The walk to the restaurant was beautiful, and then we were greeted by 2 sweet, smiling hostesses. We got there around 5:50pm and sat in the middle of the inside seating. Our server, Julie R was amazing. She was very kind, knowledgeable and helpful. My husband and I split their garden salad, which was one of the best I've ever had... so fresh, with the perfect amount of dressing. I wanted their sweetest white wine, and Julie offered to let me taste it first. The Riesling was the perfect blend, so she poured me a glass. As time passed, more people came and I noticed the tables next to me were pretty close; the restaurant became more noisy of course, but I was still able to hear my husband across the table. My husband ordered the duck, and I wish I had ordered it myself... mouth watering! Our bill total was $188 without tip... a little overpriced, but I would go back there again for a birthday dinner. ❤️
Beautiful location, however service was quite poor. We were staying at the ranch for our anniversary. We wanted to experience the restaurant on the property. We began by sitting at the bar. Yes the bar was busy but we felt ignored by the bar staff. He did not greet us until we had sat there for awhile. The martinis were good when we did receive them. After drinks we were seated for our reservation. The wine was excellent but my rib eye that I ordered medium rare arrived medium well. The server did ask if the temperature was to my liking. I showed the center cut of the meat as a grey with almost no pink. The server said that is over cooked and immediately asked if I would like the steak remade. On the second try the steak was nicely prepared and correct temperature.
I used to LOVE eating at this restaurant. Truly LOVE it. Unfortunately, the new “makeover” is completely distracting and has lowered the quality of the experience. It used to have tablecloths and chic decor, now it’s just trendy and casual. It’s also loud. Be aware.
About the food...my table ordered the breakfast sandwich, the fig salad, and two salmon salads. While the salmon salads were good, it’s disappointing that the waiter/kitchen could not get the order correct when we BOTH asked for dressing on the side. When you have a non-busy restaurant and you can’t get the order correct, there is a problem.
Finally, the menu online shows that you can get two eggs, bacon/sausage, hashbrowns and toast. Apparently, this is no longer offered on the menu. Why? All of those ingredients were on the breakfast sandwich?
This is the main restaurant on the property for Carmel Valley Ranch. It was good food, not outstanding, and in line with pricey California restaurants of this level. Service was slow, but competently handled. We had a dinner one evening inside the restaurant and a breakfast outdoors on the heated pool patio the next morning.
The dining area is large and open which makes it perfect for families or larger parties or social occasions. It is loud and tables are situated close to each other, so I do not recommend it for special occasions or romance. Limited views of the gorgeous scenery--- the majority of the restaurant faces the pool, but views are available looking up to the hills.
While staying at Carmel Valley Ranch recently, we ate at Valley Kitchen several times. The bar is good looking, drinks great, and outdoor seating options off pool patio are superb. The taco small plate and chicken entree were delicious.The ambiance was great and everyone we encountered the the Ranch was super friendly and professional.
In the past year this restaurant has gone down hill. Not the prices though...lol...they are going in the opposite direction, up. On Sunday my scrambled eggs were cold. I requested no toast and received toast and the bacon was very fatty. My guest ordered an egg dish with hollandaise sauce. The hollandaise sauce came on the side in a small dish. The sauce was cold. The past three times I've been to CVR and ordered a hamburger, or my guest ordered one, it came at the wrong temperature. It was ordered at medium rare 1 time is came really raw, barely cooked, and the next time it came raw. The third visit my guest ordered the hamburger medium and received a raw hamburger. At $17 for scrambled eggs and $18 for a hamburger one should at least receive the right temperature.
I also feel it is important to mention that the service is below par. Does anyone know that you serve from the left and take away from the right??? Or not to reach over the client or interrupt them? And please check to see if the salt and pepper is functioning.
If I have 3 bad experiences at a restaurant I feel it is time to write a negative post. Sorry CVR. You really got to tighten it up over there. And please don't use the excuse that you have too many weddings or corporate events. We are all paying good money to enjoy ourselves out at your beautiful restaurant.
Although the restaurant was not busy, we were initially seated outside the kitchen door. The hostess seemed put out to move us. Restaurant was more casual than we had expected. Shared 3 appetizers--the tuna poke, halibut ceviche and Caesar salad. All 3 were quite good.
We had a wonderful experience dining at the Valley Kitchen for my boyfriend's 30th birthday. We were seating at a great table right by the fireplace with great views of the entire restaurant. The food was exceptional as well as the service. We will definitely be back!
I had dinner there it was delicious overcooked my steak but still good. The truffle fries are soooooo amazing just not enough of them. I also did not like the speciality cocktails tried 3 of them terrible and expensive i thought i was in vegas. I also ate breakfast there had chiliquiles and the eggs were supposes to be over easy but again over cooked no yoke ozzed out which is how over easy should be. The chef took a real mexican classic and ruined it. Maybe because most of the customers there are white upper class people so they think they are actually getting an authentic dish but really not so much.
What a lovely place. The food was absolutely delicious. The ambiance was very calm and enjoyable. We had a gf with a gluten allergy and the staff was helpful, attentive, and accomodating. Definitely recommend this place and will hopefully eat tgere again soon. 5 stars!!!!
This spot is perfect for a relaxing evening out, excellent food, the definition of "Farm to Table," great for the entire family, and well-behaved dogs welcome. Enjoy beautiful views of the vineyards, the occasional deer or gaggle of turkeys walking by. Excellent Mochas and breakfasts and outstanding dinners. We drive up here from Southern California at least once a year and it's definitely worth the drive. Perfection! Thank you Valley Kitchen and Carmel Valley Ranch.
Our meal was excellent. My only complaint is that some of the tables are kind of close together. When they guy next to us reached over and grabbed his "date's" phone out of her hand and started scolding her, it was a little awkward. My husband and I each had a salad to start. They were quite generous and both delicious. As we debated the entrée choices and how much we could each eat at that point, the waiter suggested we split the ribeye dinner as it was a very sizeable portion. It was a great idea. The meat was cooked perfectly and the sides were really, really good. They have a very friendly and attentive wait staff. Carlos is a real asset. We were staying at the ranch so we had a few other meals there. We were extremely pleased with all of them.
We ate here because we stayed at the resort. Throughout our stay we had dinner one night and breakfast each morning. Truly the service leaves much to be desired for a high end restaurant which is a part of a luxury resort.
On night one when we had dinner we had cocktails and our wonderful server Luis had a table ready for us in the back where we could watch the sunset. By the time we closed our bar tab and made our way to the table another group had been sat there. It appeared they were residents of the communtiy knew the staff and that was their table.
Well we may not live there but our money should be just as valued. Throughout the weekend the service was average at best. The staff was never soliciateous nor seem to value us. The host desk and even the manager often didn't know what was going on. The staff almost never smiles. Our favorite server was Luis and Alyssa. Luis lost points for ushering us away from a sunset because the table he had promised was taken.
The best part of the restaurant is the smores in the evening. A beautiful fire and all s'mores supplies. Again no one available to take drink orders.
Overall extraordinarily disappointing.
Wait staff was good at dinner and breakfast , but had drinks at the bar two separate times and bartenders were rude and inattentive. Hostess for dinner needed help. Food was just okay, had the salmon which lacked flavor and was over cooked, while the bed of lentils were undercooked. Beet salad was soggy and the dressing tasted like a mayo base. Very unimpressive meal considering the reviews we had read prior to coming.
We are on a three night family vacation from the Bay Area. The food is pretty good though fairly expensive. That said, tonight was good overall, but we had a major issue...the restaurant allows dogs at the table. Inside at a resort. I am sorry but when did we become a world where dogs go on vacation with you, sleep in your $900+ a night hotel room and eat with you at your table?!? I am absolutely out of my mind at this smug attitude put forth by selfish dog owners...
We chose Valley Kitchen to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. We had an early evening reservation, so the restaurant was pretty quiet. The beer list was very underwhelming--only one local choice (Carmel Wheat), nothing on draft. This was disappointing for my beer-loving husband. I had indicated on my reservation that is was a 50th birthday celebration--50 YEAR BIRTHDAY. My daughter even went up secretly to the hostess to remind. When the time came to order dessert, the waiter arrived with...wait for it...a bowl of vanilla ice cream to commemorate the occasion. Yup, plain vanilla ice cream. It was a joke--we were waiting for a hidden camera to capture our reaction. We expected a little more fanfare for such a milestone celebration.
What a beautiful gem hidden away in the valley! You could see it below as you drive down. It takes your breath away. Once there, you are greeted by friendly staff. Sitting at our lunch table, we just felt transported to another place. Ambience is wonderful. Food was yummy! We had gotten lost coming from the North and were an hour late but our reservation was accommodated. Thank you!
This was our first visit to The Valley Kitchen.
We ordered a lovely set of appetizers: Oysters and the Chiveice both of which were quite good.
For the entree, both of us ordered the Market Plate, which had a Sirloin steak + veggies and mashed potatoes.
Both steaks were ordered medium rare. Mine was barely cooked correctly and my date's steak came medium. His steak was remade and again it came out overcooked. They server apologies and offset one of the steaks and a dessert.
It was a total shame as we choose to spend the rest of the trip off the property because we were wary of the service and quality that we would receive.
It would have been so easy to make this right...but that just didn't happen.
Stayed at the Ranch as a last minute 4th of July weekend getaway and had three meals at the Valley Kitchen. Pretty inspired and fresh menu. Nice to have this option on site. Kid and dog friendly which was great for those who have them (we do not) but the place did not look like it was totally booked.
Unfortunately, we had a really terrible experience and we will not be back. On Sunday, I brought my mom, aunt, husband, brother and sister-in-law to brunch. They seated our table of 6 in the way back behind the bar--which we thought could have been a good thing, since it was extra quiet. The exact opposite couldn't have been any more true. The service was truly terrible. They routinely forgot us entirely. It took 20 minutes and two reminders to get water at the table. And they couldn't have made us feel like any more of an inconvenience. At one point, I let the hostess know nicely that we were feeling a little forgotten and that I wanted to let them know. Because we really did set out for an enjoyable family meal. At that point, they did send the manager over to pay special attention to the table. I ordered a round of mimosas to try to quell the general distaste for the experience. And the mimosas were $12 each. It felt like service was their last priority. It was a big disappointment. The food, however, was quite good. We still won't be back.
Excellent food although the Margherita pizza had way too much stringy cheese.
Cordial wait staff,but very busy so I had to signal to get water refill...also brought someone else's bill at the end. Next time will try the short ribs...$38.
Disappointing menu. Very typical selections. Nice selection of wines by the glass. Bread (focaccia) and butter very good. We were seated in the dining area, which was really bar-like since all sorts of people standing around having loud conversations. There is a small, quieter room to eat, but we weren't offered that.
