Described as a sanctuary for taste buds, The Upton in Scottsdale, AZ was opened to offer unique American cuisine and classic cocktails in a low-key setting and with attentive service. The menu has been inspired by global dishes as well as iconic American ingredients, and chef Chris Schlattman creates a seasonal array of dishes that pair well with the choices from the bar.
The dinner menu for The Upton will always include shareable choices like the crispy confit duck wings or the Chinese ribs. There are fun pressed sandwiches like the NYC turkey pastrami or the charred green tomato sandwich. There are bao buns and innovative entres such as Barbie doll risotto and a miso vegan ramen as well as meat and seafood dishes. Salads and sides complete the options on The Upton menu, proving it has something for everyone.

Great atmosphere. Wonderful service. Food was good enough, but not anything special. Great spot to grab brunch before hitting the day club. Bottomless mimosas!
From our first experience with the host , our waiter with his dirty finger nails, sloppily dressed male wait staff & decor being sub par at best- I would be hard pressed to return again. Food was good but did not have the wow factor it needs to survive.
The restaurant has a nice setting with tables along the wall and 2 doors that open up to the outdoor yards. It wasn't hot that day but we stay indoor. The food are good. The appetizers are very tasty, from the mussels to the chinese xiu bbq and the salad. The entrees are just as excellent with the scallops and asparagus done just right, the salmon and veggies tasty, the steak and the tacos done just right. Our outing would be nicer if service is better. The waiter is slow and not focusing on his diners and do a lot of running around. We spent over 2 and a half hour at the restaurant and left without having desserts.
We would recommend this restaurant only because of its good food.
No wonder it is closed... apparently I am not the only one who had this opinion.
Very cool spot. Not your conventional place to grab a bite. Reminds me of chill joint you'd find in Portland or Seattle.
The outdoor vibe of this restaurant was lovely. It was a hot day, but the shade provided was adequate. The food portions in this restaurant give new meaning to small. It was a very expensive brunch for four people that would have barely feed two people. The food was tasty but it was not exceptional. I would not recommend.
I have dined at the Upton at least 4 or 5 times. The food is very good. The value is exceptional. The ambience is very romantic while being fun and lively. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Very good food and service at reasonable prices. The chines ribs were a delicious appetizer and the scallops with beet risotto were tender and tasty. The grilled salmon was cooked perfectly. The wine list is ample and a Happy Hour bargain.
We went for happy hour and literally got one of everything on the food menu. Everything was delicious, but some of the standouts were the mason jar salad, the chicken bao bun, the cauliflower, and the meat/cheese board.
This was an unexpected treat. First meal out in Scottsdale and found The Upton on Eater. I was intrigued by the menu and it more than lived up to its promise. Every food item was elevated, the Char Siu ribs and especially the Korean Bao with the Tiger sauce was a knockout. Our server Justine was fun and knowledgeable about the food, and all the staff was helpful, friendly and relaxed. It was a warm evening and we were able to enjoy the patio. To top it off, the bar has my favorite Rye, Colonel EH Taylor and made the perfect Old Fashioned.
I can't say enough. Oh wait, one more thing. we also had the little donuts for dessert. Didn't need dessert, finished them all. If I lived in Scottsdale I would be at this restaurant once a week. Or more.
Menu a bit limited but that was ok, because their ingredients were fresh and food was wonderful. We were there for Sunday Brunch. Service was outstanding. Outside patio was very comfortable as well.
We loved the setting and the professionalism of the servers. Matt was awesome. Unfortunately, food at The Upton was very disappointing. Meat was undercooked on both attempts to please. In general, all meals were way too salty, the result of which our check reflected the removal of two entrees. Menu selection was diverse and interesting. It just fell far short of being palatable. Not rushing back.
We were there for Mother's Day, and were seated outside...which was a nice setting. Our waiter was basically indifferent to us...slow, didn't get my daughters order right, and just acted like we were more a bother than customers. The food and was just "ok"...nothing great. I had high hopes because of other reviews, but we won't be back.
The staff went above and beyond to accommodate the needs of our 95 yo grandfather, as well as our daughters (ages 5 & 2). Everyone was so friendly and made our stay very enjoyable. Thank you!
Confit duck wings and fried chicken WOW
Food is great. Portions too small compared to cost. real noisy after happy hour for dining outside. Service was fantastic
Wanted to go somewhere new, open-table recommended this spot & it was really fun. Good food, super drinks, loved the Refresher. Great patios.
Overall the restaurant was good. It took my wife and I about 15 minutes to get there after we parked because there was a "bomb threat" in the area. Everything around the Upton was taped up and we had to get around it to get to our reservation. Nevertheless, the food and ambiance was a good. The service could improve a bit but other than that, it was good.
Fabulous food and great hospitality. Beats the massive food and bar palaces, chain or otherwsie that dominate the Scottsdale scene.
The food tasted great and really enjoyed the bao. I would love to go for happy hour and try out more things. I was actually really disappointed with the American Muscles appetizer. I love muscles and was expecting it to be really good. They were actually really small and half of them seemed to have been overcooked to the point that they were shriveled up into nothingness -- but the taste was great.
The ambiance was great.. loved the atmosphere and was very cute. Would love to come back also for brunch to try it out.
Decent food but service was miserable. They seem understaffed and unable to cater to a smallish dinner crowd. Don't go if you have kids or they will starve.
It is not the best restaurant, but for the price it is a good option.
Nice waiters and beautiful people.
Perfect place in old town Scottsdale
Despite the fact that we had a reservation we still did not get seated for over an hour. The first thing our waiter said was that he was sorry we had to wait so long and then disappeared!! We literally had to ask another waiter to find ours. Customer service is obviously a low priority for this restaurant. In addition to that the servings are small and overpriced. I never write reviews but had to because of our bad experience. It is terrible!
The Upton was a delightful surprise in an unexpected location in Scottsdale. The outdoor garden is a beautiful space just right for brunch, lunch or dinner. The service was wonderful.
What a cute little spot to eat dinner! We decided to try The Upton our first night in Scottsdale, and it definitely set the standards high for the rest of our meals!! For an appetizer, we ordered Bao buns off the happy hour menu. You get one per order with this deal...I got "The Colonel" (which originally they said they were out of the fried chicken but then came back to say they had it--and after eating it, I was so thankful they did!!) and my husband for the "Momofuku" and "Seoul Satisfaction." The coating on my chicken was so tasty--perfectly crunchy and the chicken was extremely juicy. We have talked about going back for lunch just to get more of these little sandwiches! For dinner, he ordered the Angus Bistro steak with blue cheese and the hand cut fries. It was cooked to perfection! I ordered the salmon. I also wanted to try the farro salad so started ordering it as a side, and then our kind waiter informed me I could put it under my salmon as part of the meal. I am so happy he suggested that because it was an absolutely perfect combination. I squeezed fresh lemon juice over everything, and I was hooked at my first bite. The salmon was flaky and my first forkful was delicious. The farro salad was an amazing addition to the plate. I hated to take the last bite because I didn't want the meal to end! Overall, this has been my favorite dinner of our entire trip, and we will definitely make another stop the next time we visit!
One my most favs this year ... Love going ,,the food is fabulous and the wait staff is so friendly!
Fun decor with excellent food. The salmon with the couscous was delicious. My friends raved about the tacos and fried chicken!
Definitely be back!
Fabulous food, charming atmosphere and attentive staff. Fun house drinks to try. Cauliflower with lemon chimchuri seasoning and fried chicken to die for. Great value for your money.
The Upton was great. They were super accommodating to our small group. The food was excellent and a great value for all that we ordered. I'll be back!
If visiting PHX or surrounding cities-EAT there. Excellent! If a resident same advice!
Food was amazing and so was the ambiance. Great for group gatherings. I was not impressed with the service though. I will go back just bc the food/ambiance was good.
The Upron is a bit quirky, but in a good way. We enjoyed the small plate-type format and the menu has some unique dishes. My husband and I are vegetarians and there were tasty options for us. Our server was a lot of fun and the outdoor seating was comfortable. We would return!
We met up with friends for a Friday night dinner at the Upton and couldn't have been more pleased. Our server was wonderful - offered great suggestions, so attentive (but not intrusive), and generally wonderful. We ate outside on the patio and it was a perfect night. Cocktails were great, food was really good - they are known for their chicken, but try some of the bao or the fish items - so wonderful! I would definitely recommend the Upton as a little hidden gem in Scottsdale.
Booked through open table but when we arrived they wouldn't give us a table outside (nicer). Book direct and make the request directly. Amazing food and cocktails.
We sat outside and you could tell they didn't wipe the tables down before opening. Very dusty. The cocktails were great, but service was just ok. Last time we were there, service was super. The food was good, but not as good as it was the last time were were there either. Will give it another shot to see if this visit was just a fluke. Really liked it the first time we ate there, so are thinking maybe because we went so early this time they weren't prepped for the evening yet.
We loved this place so much we ate lunch there twice and dinner one night all in the same weekend. Great service. Awesome hideaway restaurant with a French country vibe.
Started with the Donas OMG they are so good. I had the strawberry toast and my hubs had the Angus beef hash. I had to sneak a bite of his and it was so flavorful! The service was great and perfect timing on our order.
Love this place. Food and cocktails were great. A fun Saturday brunch with live EDM DJ.
