The Union Kitchen (Memorial Dr) Ratings and Reviews
My experience at Union Kithchen was good, the food was good , service was good the only issue is they sat me outside at the windows next to the inside diners and it was a bit awkward with only a piece of glass between you and the inside diners for both of us. Wish they had music more nights a week though.
We happened to book this restaurant because we had to be somewhere near by and boy were we pleased. It was Valentine’s Day and they had some fabulous specials. We had the surf and surf which was delicious. And then the chocolate basket for dessert which was amazing. The first thing I did when we left was to look up other locations because I will definitely return. Luckily they have one near our new home. Can’t wait to try it.
This Union Kitchen failed miserably for me and my friends. I’m not a complainer. But our food was cold, service was minimal, and management was rude. The food had a good taste but really was cold. A cold waffle! They also forgot to put topping on it. Benedict’s had about a tablespoon of hollandaise and eggs were over cooked. Server was not very friendly and when asked for the manager he came and said you have to talk to corporate for that and walked away. (I asked about a coupon that was not honored). The Union on Ella is “over the top” friendly, warm, and delicious. Would never go back!
We had a lovely time at The Union Kitchen in Memorial. The food was really good. Three out of four of us ordered the Red Snapper Special, which was flavored and prepared just right. The spinach and artichoke dip was also devine. We had a very friendly and attentive waitress who also made a great recommendation for a Pinot Grigio that went perfectly with the Red Snapper. She also was very accommodating with all our particulars, like subbing crab for shrimp on the entrée and sauce on the side, etc. Finally, the dessert selection was impressive. We shared the lemon cake which was not too sweet and very tasty. We will definitely be back. The atmosphere in the restaurant is nothing special, but the food and service are always great and it's a wonderful choice for an enjoyable night out in the hood!
This was my second timing dining here in the last month. 1st experience was fine, good food and service etc. We came back for a quick Thursday night after work dinner and to my surprise everything was just off. I will list them in order below:
1. Lighting: was bright and fluorescent like, prior experience had nice evening mood lighting. I felt like I was in a cafeteria at a hospital.
2. Service: when we sat down at our table we began to look over the menu, it took at least 15 min before a server even came by to get our drink order—to be clear there were maybe 12 tables in the entire restaurant filled. After we finally placed our order, another 15+ min went by and our server came back by to let us know he spilled water on what he wrote down and needed to reconfirm our order. Another 15 min goes by and we get a portion of our food, and still we’re missing the salad; it finally arrives another 10 minutes later.
3. Food: as I said before I had been to the restaurant recently prior to this visit and had a very enjoyable meal. This time however our food was terrible! The crab cake tastes like canned tuna, the gnocchi was like little balls of mushy potato in a nasty cream sauce, and the truffle Mac n cheese was like soupy velvet-a with truffle oil flavoring. In fairness, The chop salad (when it finally arrived) was good.
All in all, this was a very disappointing meal and has put us off of this place.
Food was excellent but wait service was off their game. We sat for more than 20 minutes after our drink order waiting for the server to return with drinks and order our meal. He often left and didn't check back with us for 20+ minutes, making the meal a lot longer than it had to be.
I have eaten at Union Kitchen many, many times. the majority of the time the food is quite good and the service is great. I scored this review very low because on the Sunday Brunch(first time to their brunch, the service was very very slow, the food(omelete was runny)was fair. they were very crowded and the noise level, neither of which I have any control over, was almost to loud. I will eat there again but I will think 2x about their Brunch
My husband had the Ribeye - the presentation was decent, best you do to a steak and sliced potatoes. The steak was cut in half which made it tough and somewhat dull to the taste.. although the potatoes were the exact opposite. They were like au gratin potatoes without the cheese yet still very tasteful. There shouldn’t be a need to cut a 14 oz steak in half. Makes no sense unless someone asks for that.
He also had the truffle Mac n cheese and from both of our perspectives... there was NO flavor to them at all. Such a disappointment
I on the other hand ordered and completely enjoyed the pistachio chicken on a bed of noodles with marinara, topped with artichokes and sun-dried tomatoes. What a breath of fresh air compared to my husbands plate!
The restaurant was slightly damn, somewhat loud, I don’t believe there’s enough walking space for the fact that there are too many table set up in the main dining areas. There was a crowd of people from two different tables that blocked the walkway to exit making most of the patrons have to walk towards the opposite side of the restaurant to leave. In any case there wasn’t enough walking room. I would not encourage someone who might be somewhat overweight to attempt to walk through there, you’ll end up doing a dance to get between the tables to leave or to the restrooms.
Wine selection was decent and moderately priced. We won’t be returning for the steaks but may come back to try something else. I’ve been here for drinks and the patrons & bar staff (at the bar) have been very welcoming. They have a large TV set up to watch sorts on so that’s nice too.
Decor is nice. Location and parking convenient. Service below average: no drink or menu suggestions
WARNING: Their open table menu is nothing what it is when you get there.
We started with crab stuffed avocado and it was zero flavor.
The BBQ chicken pizza which was a notch below california pizza kitchen from the frozen section with less chicken.
Also ordered parmesan crusted chicken. It was served with nicely cooked linguine and perfect tomato sauce. Unfortunately chicken tasted previously frozen.
Good food, fairly priced. My friend and I only wished there were more seafood brunch options and that we were informed of any price differences when requesting a drink we believed accompanied the kids meal ordered instead of an additional 3 dollar charge. It's nice to be informed in the event we opted to decline and order a drink that was included.
We normally love to go to Union Kitchen but this night the service was terrible and lasted through out the entire meal. I had to go to the bar and say" Can I take our drinks to the table"? We waited 18 minutes for our cocktails before I walked to the bar.I don't know if this was an isolated problem or if the restaurant has gone down hill. This is the first time we dined there after Harvey and I know they had some flood problems. The bartender didn't appear to have many patrons at the bar and conversed the the help continuously but still couldn't make our drinks. It is rare that I say anything derogatory about a restaurant but this was an awful experience. I hope it was just the server and not the decline of Union Kitchen.
Been going here many years, I suppose eventually there will be an off day. Today was it. Waiter was uninterested in serving us, never checked on us during the meal, took forever just to get iced tea before we even ordered. Definitely not bringing their A game today.
