Wanted to love this because it’s close to home—but the food was just okay, and the patio was really noisy. (If you like that—give it a chance.) the food wasn’t very well seasoned, and the hollandaise on my Benedict was skimpy. It was toward the end of brunch—so maybe the cooks were tired? Still....
We arrived and were immediately seated indoors as we requested. The wait staff was really attentive, the manager/owner came by several times to check on us. The food was really good, well prepared, delivered hot or cold as the dish required. Our beverages were refilled several times. The scallops with crab cakes were wonderful! I'd highly recommend them .
Great food. Service was uneven. Took several attempts at requesting muffins.
Love the Bloody Mary Bar, but I had to ask three times for drink.
I went on Mother's Day so I expected it to be busy which is why I made a reservation. We showed up 15 minutes before the reservation time so I thought we might have to wait. (They had a little coffee station set up) Surprisingly we were seated right away. The service was great. Anytime we had an empty cup it was filled right away. The food on the other hand didn't thrill me. I had the Country Benedict and I wasn't even able to eat the Country fried steak as it was so tough. The presentation of the food was just kinda slopped together on the plate. It was quite busy so I'll give a pass for that. I might go back and try The Union Kitchen again to see if it's better on a non holiday.
Unfortunately they knew Mother’s Day was one of the busiest days of the year and none-the-less they were not ready. Even though we arrived early before the restaurant was full, the usually good service was not attentive, items in the order were missed, refills and requests for condiments were so slow that the food was finish before the items came, and the food was cold for the most part and not very appetizing. In particular the lobster tart was overcooked yet cold and had an unpleasant fishy taste. , Very unappetizing.
We have eaten at this restaurant many many times, but I’m not sure I would go back on a special occasion again.
If you want to go to Union Kitchen, go to one of the other locations. The service was bad, there were gnats and mosquitoes every where, and the food took forever and was cold when it arrived.
The service is very slow. Had reservations for 1:00pm- food arrived to the table at 3pm. Tables are very close together. Had to ask manager if we could move to another table due to certain guest in party having a hard time fitting in tight space. Waitress wouldn’t budge, although she clearly saw how tight the seating was, so we had to request a manager.
Union Kitchen was fabulous as always. It is a great neighborhood restaurant.
Our pizzas were delicious and we love the restaurant. However, the bread brought pre-meal was stale and thus hard, even after heating; the waiter didn't refill my tea for at least 15 minutes, and then with no ice, which I had to ask for; and the country music playing the entire time was dirge-like and depressing, not conducive to a pleasant, upbeat dining experience. I advise against playing country in general, since it's not neutral music which anyone can enjoy. Light pop or innocuous background instrumentals would be better than crying in your beer music any day. Thanks!
Pistachio Crusted chicken was magnificent
Great spot, never disappoints! Enjoyed a family dining/birthday celebration. Always a good time there.
We arrived 25 minutes before our scheduled reservation, but they quickly found a table for us. Our waiter, Jose, was excellent.
Very good food and great service
The outside/enclosed area had all types of flies/net around food; which is a nuisance considering we were trying to enjoy our meal. Waiter was very nice but very attentive. He failed to bring muffins and water refills in a timely manner. We enjoyed the Kingwood location better than the Bellaire experience.
We went with two other friends on Saturday night. One had never been and she loved the choices and the food she got. Our meals were exceptional, as always. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the live music of Danny Everett along with the delicious meal. We will continue to make Union Kitchen one of our usual spots.
Arrived for a reservation and were promptly seated. Tables were squeezed in at max capacity and parking was limited. Our waiter was pleasant, but appeared overtaxed. He took our order, then returned over 5-7 min later to retake it: meaning he'd never put it in. Our food was slow to arrive, even though the restaurant had begun to clear out. The coup de gras was that the food underwhelmed for $23 per dish. Chicken dishes tasted as if the sauces had been cooked separately from the chicken, then mixed while plating. Memorial location has been much better than this.
Great little dive serving up a good brunch at a decent price. Great mimosa selection which are slightly pricy but worth it for the 1 cent refills. It’s a little crammed inside but overall decently priced, good food.
Jack was a great, attentive waiter and the manager visited with us. Bread was hot and pizzas were delicious. Wonderful evening. Thanks!
I brought a group of people to this restaurant for brunch on Saturday. It took a while, but after alerting the staff that we had a hard stop because of travel plans, they got right with it, brought our drinks and took our order. Surprisingly, our orders came out cold. I had the pancake sliders. The pancakes were misshapen and the scrambled eggs were rock hard. Why not make perfectly round symmetrical pancakes and fluffy, light scrambled eggs? Would be so much better. My wife’s French toast was stone cold. We didn’t have time to fight about the food so we ate it as it was. Others In our group were polite and ate their lukewarm food. Overall, the atmosphere in this restaurant was perfect for Saturday brunch but sort of shocked and amazed that we would have a poor food experience as it’s otherwise a nice place.
Great experience. Wait staff and management were very patient and accommodating for my elderly mom’s needs. Thank you so much for a delightful atmosphere.
Great food, great staff, great time. Manager was very accommodating, I had to change our reservation from 4 people to 9 people at the last minute and he was able to accommodate our group with no problem.
I eat here frequently and it’s usually very good. On this night, however, the service was terrible. Appetizer never came. And the pizza was not up to their standard. I was very disappointed.
I think the restaurant is very good, but very limited when it comes to vegetarian food. This is a drawback for me. I would like greater variety in this. Other than that, keep up the good work
I usually dine in at the Memorial location (which i absolutely love), but decided to give the Bellaire location a try since it’s only 3 minutes from my home. Well never again! Service was great, very nice staff! But my boyfriend and i was so disappointed in the food. Everything was either undercooked or overcooked and with little to no seasoning. Needless to say, I think I will stick with the Memorial location!
The Union Kitchen never disappoints
Service is fantastic
The food is phenomenal
Whenever we just want a good pizza or chicken fried chicken, the Union Kitchen on Bellaire is a good visit. Friendly, good food, snappy service and a neighborhood atmosphere. Some nights there is live music in the covered outdoor area as well.
UK is one our favorite restaurants. The food is always good and service is top notch. We particularly like the rewards specials. Great place !
Our waiter was quite weird. Food was pretty good!
Good food. Nice open patio. Great service. We were there for brunch and enjoyed it.
At first, the service was a little slow and our drinks were late coming to the table because they came out with our meal. There was a huge party in the same building but they weren’t even a problem. The food was fantastic and I savored every bite. Overall my experience was awesome !
I love the Memorial location and have never been to the Bellaire location before. Since this was closer for my friend we came here. Our server, Jack, was great. I wanted to try something that used be on the menu but was no longer available and he graciously asked the kitchen to custom make the pizza. He kept checking on us to make sure everything was good. The food is delicious, and I would definitely come back. Be sure to park by their parking only as the shopping center next to it will tow cars.
Brunch at Union Kitchen is amazing! Can't complain about delicious food and $0.01 mimosa refills. Their service is also impeccable - very attentive server AND manager. Not to mention the patio is dog-friendly which is great. Would definitely recommend Union Kitchen as a go-to, no-frills brunch place.
I love this restaurant when all the stars are in alignment, like when they have nice ambience outside wit a live jazz musician. The bread needs improvement - ours was grocery store white Italian bread soaked in butter. My husbands friend shrimp were small, both in portion, quality, and size of shrimp. The maitre’d who checked us in acted like she did not care whether or not we were there. Our waiter made up for that by being extremely friendly and attentive. I think this was just an off night. We’ll try a again soon.
Great food. Great service. A little loud but fine.
Prompt service great food. Packed house very loud.
This is my 4th time here and I have never been disappointed.
This friendly, upbeat restaurant never disappoints. The best calamari in town, sprinkled with a bit of feta and other special touches, without the heavy batter. Brussels Sprouts done right! Delicious food in every category from burgers to fresh grilled fish. Brunch is a winner here on weekends, with fine benedict specialties.
Wedge salad was wonderful. Crab risotto ball appetizer, shared with us by another customer at the bar, were very tasty. Service by Eric at the bar was great. Wine by the bottle prices are hard to beat.
Excellent meal on a Saturday night. Five people (all adults) and five different dishes, all delicious, from a cheeseburger to snapper with parmesan risotto, crab-stuffed shrimp on cheese grits and parmesan-crusted chicken. Nice wine list. Wonderful "Texas Lime Pie." A very nice for "upscale casual adult dining."
