The Twisted Tail
Inside a warm, welcoming dining space makes The Twisted Tail South Street’s best place to catch a band - and a bite.
Good food. Good drinks. Great vibe!!!
Definitely check the upstairs
Birthday, the food was very modern southern cuisine and drinks were different but great! There was a live awesome band from Boston there that was so fitting for the restaurant and mood!
A little disappointed with one of our favorite restaurants. We booked the restaurant over the weekend, through open table. Opentable posted the menu, which was completely different then what was apparently updated within the last day or two. We go to Twisted Tale with an expectation and the food we were served, although good, was completely different from their original menu. Most disappointing was no beignets! It was a pre fixe menu, so the portions were acceptable and the food decent. Service was off as well. Chalk it up to it being a holiday. But a little disappointing compared to their normal food and service.
One of our courses didn't come out on time. The noodle dish we had was very overcooked with a broth at the bottom that didn't make sense. Everything else was alright but for the 49 dollar per person price was a little steep for the quality of food and service we received.
Great food (wasn’t expecting that). Did the tasting menu for four people. Had plenty of food.
Very good small plates, excellent selection of bourbon! Food and drink reasonably priced!
Overal we both enjoyed our meal. The atmostphere was nice and I recoomend The Twisted Tail for a date night and special occasions.
Great atmosphere and good food but the server made it an event that was worthwhile.
This is the best kept secret in Philly if you are a Foodie. Everything ordered was fantastic and very well presented. However, one should never have to wait at a bar for 15 minutes for a cocktail. Bartenders were just busy doing bar stuff and not paying attention to us seated at a not so crowded bar and it was Happy Hour. Ambience had much to be desired. I get that this is a bar/restaurant and in my opinion, the place would do better without the band on the first floor. What's odd about this place is that the food is NOT bar food. It's so good and doesn't jive with the rest of the place. Hence, the name, Twisted Tail? I would go again before the band arrives just for the food!
Ended up getting the Chef's tasting menu for dinner... excellent assortment of food, all high quality, and the price was really affordable based on the quality of food in the tasting menu. Although this place is known for it's Whiskey/Bourbon list, the wines by the glass were respectable. Best of all was the VERY professional wait staff as well as the manager, who timed everything perfectly.
Ended up at this wonderful restaurant and loved it. 2nd time there and it was terrific again. Ask for server Shawn. between the food and Shawn, we will be back.
I will say the screaming young ladies at the bar waiting for their table were annoying to me but I am old and it was a Saturday evening. Maybe I will be mindful of the time we go next time. lol :)
Restaurant offers family style options and first-timer tasting combinations; live music and swanky bar scene.
The food was not spectacular. We had the chef's tasting, which was three appetizers, two entrees and a dessert. Everything came out as it was cooked, which they informed of us of. Nothing was very special. The chorizo taco came out as a full chorizo sausage in a taco shell, which was just a weird choice. The entrees were okay; the skirt steak was a little too smoky. I just wasn't wowed by the dinner.
The food was awesome! Service was great! Loved the live band! Our waitress knew the menu and specials very well with great recommendations! Drinks tasted a little watered down, but 10 mins laters they kicked in! LOL! My first dining experience here, but it won’t be my last!
I have a mixed review of the restaurant. They seated us late even though we had reservation (difficulty finding our reservation as well even though they called that morning to confirm and ask if any dietary restrictions which weren't passed along any where). Once seated we got our first round of food quickly. There was a lag in which we followed up to see why the wait and waiter indicated kitchen was backed up. An hour later waiter came back to apologize and say our ticket had dropped down and kitchen only just found it. Told our desserts would be comped but when we got the bill it was still included so had to have manager come to table. Food depending on what you got was either yummy (ribs, shrimp and grits) or just okay/not good (mac and cheese was watery and sea bass was overwhelmed with pesto). Drinks were good however. Just one thing after another happened unfortunately ... perhaps just an off night....
Twisted tail was a good experience. I do really enjoy the food and the overall ambiance. However if you are looking to have conversations or loud music is a bit of a bother for U, I would recommend sitting downstairs towards the back of the restaurant. Sitting closer to the front will definately be a bit loud with the band just over top of you and I am one who loves to hear music when I go out, but when I am tryna have conversations could benefit from hearing it a little "less loud"...my only real complaint is that the service from the bar seems to be extremely slow! I have been to this establishment several times and that's the one thing that I can always count on, my drinks comming out long after I've ordered them. On one occasion I even recall actually getting up from my table where I was being waited on and going to the bar myself to check on drinks because service was so slow. Even at this last visit, I had 2 drinks and was prepared to order a 3rd but the thought of waiting another 25 mins to get it turned me off. I dont know if its the waiters who isnt putting the order in right away or of its the actual bartenders who are slacking, but either way it should be corrected because it's too nice a spot to have this be the reason that loyal customers turn away
Great service! Great food! Definitely will go back.
Went with friends on a Friday night. This place is awesome! The food was delicious, good portion sizes, great ambiance and a very attentive staff. Didn’t feel rushed at all and everyone was friendly. The live music at the end of the night was also a pleasant surprise. Also love how their restaurant week menu is representative of their actual menu.
Went for restaurant week, food selection was really good tastey and our server was knowledgeable and really nice.
We went here for restaurant week which was a great value, but our waiter explained usually the dishes are served family style. The meatballs and crawfish mac & cheese were standouts.
We loved our experience at the Twisted Tail! It made for an awesome date night, and their menu for Restaurant Week was amazing. 10/10 would recommend to a friend!
Food was delicious and homey. The specialty thyme after thyme drink was yum. Service was solid. Will def go back.
The fried chicken was amazing! The service was wonderful as well, it was a great first time experience!
Was hesitant to try TT in the past thinking fried foods would dominate; happy to find such a diverse menu and one perfect for Restaurant Week which amounted to two of us sharing six plates + dessert. Ambiance was great, hostess and wait staff very friendly, and our choices were almost all hits, especially the short rib entree. Bar - and huge 2nd floor - looked like fun for a future stop with a great list of bourbons, scotch, beer, and music. Would've given servers 5 stars for effort but I have to agree with with some reviewers that the random order of dishes can be odd, especially when one diner's dishes all come out before the other's first. But all in all a pleasant surprise worth repeating.
Happened to visit for a Birthday celebration during restaurant week. The food was served tapas style and everything was excellent. Service was fantastic. Great atmosphere. Great punch bowl drinks!
Loved this place. Great ambiance, prices were wonderful and food was more than worth the visit. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Wide selection of choices, not much ambiance. Food comes out at different times which was annoying. Party was so there first courses when I received mine. When entrees came out, only 3 out of 4 received then as we finished the 4th entree came out. Don't get the beginets, the only good thing about them was the caramel sauce. Glad I tried but don't need to return
We had dinner here for the first time for Restaurant Week. It was a fantastic experience. The food was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed every dish from the mushroom toast, heirloom beets💖 to the beignets and pumpkin cheesecake. Our server Anthony was the best. The perfect mix of knowlegable professional and comic. Put us quickly at ease. Kudos to the chef everything was perfect. We will return
Food was great, mellow vibe where everyone around was having a good time, would definitely go back for the food and chill atmosphere.
Every bite of my food selections were delightfully tasty. Definitely dining there in the near future!
Food was great. Decent portions. Service was awesome. Had 6:30 reservations for restaurant week but arrived an hour early however they accommodated us with no problem. Parking was not an issue because there is plenty of metered parking in the area.
Was so happy to finally make it to The Twisted Tail. Service, food, and cocktails were all great. Highly recommend it!
Valanni was our 4th choice for Restaurant Week. It's listed as an Italian restaurant, but nothing on the menu (at least the restaurant week menu) was Italian. That being said, the food was good and the service was great, so no big deal!
We were seated on time for our 7:30 reservation, and our server, who was training, was very friendly and attentive. I chose the fried goat cheese, salmon w/ garlic mashed potatoes & haricot vert, and the oreo beignets. My boyfriend chose the calamari, the crab & pancetta mac & cheese, and originally chose the chocolate tres leches.
I loved all of my choices- the salmon was cooked perfectly, and the oreo beignets were delicious...the batter was more like that of a deep fried oreo than the typical fluffiness of a beignet, but it was freaking delicious. My boyfriend said that the calamari was rubbery and not flavorful, which was sad because it looked delicious when it came out. He enjoyed the mac & cheese very much. The chocolate tres leches was not good at all, so he ended up with an order of the oreo beignets as well.
As for as drinks, he ordered a Tito's & sprite, which was tasty and strong. I went with the white sangria, which I did not enjoy. It was a nice experience overall, but not likely on our list of places to rush back to anytime soon.
Great food, drinks and great music to set the mood!
Loved the service. Had wings, bbq ribs and fried chicken were great. Loved the pumpkin cheesecake and the bourbon lemonade drink. Will definitely return to try more items.
The food was AMAZING! Everything we ordered was fantastic. The service is great, and our server was attentive. Would definitely come back again!
Drove into town for restaurant week. Decided to sit at the bar instead of at a table. It was a great decision! The bartender Pat was awesome and made our night out very enjoyable. Great food and great service! I had the short rib and my wife had the crab cake. Both excellent along with our whisky flights.
Our waiter was very knowledgable and gave us a detailed description of everything on the menu.
We were all happy with our selections. The food was good, as was the service!
Of course we will be back again...
We went there for restaurant week and pretty much everything my girlfriend and I ordered was delicious. Service was not so great but they didn't look well prepared with enough staff, especially for restaurant week. Highly recommended!
PS get the beignets for dessert.
So we went for restaurant week and EVERYTHING was outstanding! We will be back! The mushroom toast was next level! The waygu beef tartare was delicious! Go!
