Delightful sidewalk setting, surrounded by flower boxes. Creative cocktails. Delicious small plates. Attentive waitstaff.
Our first and last time at this place. Went for Easter brunch. The food (they were so slow to replenish the buffet that right before we left the pork was finally put out but we had already finished eating) was below average, which for the price was a shock. I've had better pastries from my local food store, fruit tray was sad as was the green salad. I have never seen prime rib like what they served, instead of a large slice of beef, they had small about 6 in. by 3 inches long pieces of meat that were cut into thin slices. Who does that. They were in a hurry to get it out to serve because the outside was black (tasted like burnt grill) but the inside was cool and bloody. The only reason I gave 3 stars is for the manager who apologized immediately for the the empty buffet, bringing me a plate of food from the kitchen so I didn't have to wait for it to make it to the buffet table and for realizing we were so unhappy comped us half off our bill. She did all she could which we greatly appreciate & I hope she gets paid what she's worth but I will not come back due to the quality of the food served.
The taste of the food was excellent. It was Easter so it wasn’t their regular service. We were upstairs so the atmosphere wasn’t necessarily what we would ordinarily have.
The service was less that attentive but they were tipped out at 20% already. They know they would get their tips regardless of their service. They did not tell you this when making the reservation. I feel this is wrong but live and learn.
Some of the warm food was cold because it had been sitting out and not kept warm. Also, frustrating because you couldn’t talk to anyone behind the bar and no one was circulating outside of the bar around making sure things were ok on the buffet. As an example, there was no way to pick up the sausage as the tongs had escaped. I asked someone behind the bar although he couldn’t understand me but stood there a VERY long time waiting. I also felt it was a little overpriced.
We were a party of 5 for Easter brunch. The restaurant was busy as to be expected but we were seated at the farthest possible table from the buffet area on the swings floor even though there were empty tables on the first floor. Our server was kept busy and we waited at least 15-20 minutes to get drinks each time we ordered. The food was good! A wide variety of breakfast and lunch items including roast lamb, roast beef, fried chicken, cheese grits, bagels and pastries and an adequate dessert section. But we had to continually walk a long way to retrieve anything. And we automatically charged a 20% gratuity even though we served ourselves. This is the first Easter buffet we’ve attended at The Twisted Tail; we’ve eaten here on Easter when they offered their regular brunch menu. I much prefer our prior experience.
This place was the perfect date night restaurant. The atmosphere was great! The food was great and the service was great!
I highly recommend it!!
We sat at the bar during “social hour” and ordered drinks and food from the special menu. The food was delicious and prices were great! We ordered a meat & cheese board. From the descriptions on the menu I had no idea what I was looking at, so we ask the bartender to pick 2 great meats and 3 cheeses. They were delicious. We were very happy with our choices.
The food was outstanding, as was the service. The only criticism I can offer is that there are extremely limited options for vegetables and sides. I had to order my vegetable separately, which brought the price of my dinner up by more than $10, which makes the restaurant much more expensive than I had initially thought. The food was ultimately worth it, as they have the best sea bass and asparagus I've ever eaten, but I did not feel like I had much choice to construct a balanced meal at a reasonable price. While delicious, the food felt pretty heavy. That said, I'll definitely be going back.
Last time we came I was obsessed with the crawfish mac & cheese dish so we ordered it again. I thought the sauce was runnier but I'm very particular about mac & cheese. My parents had a pork roll and burger and loved it. I was shocked that sodas were $5 each - no alcohol was added! And it was at times difficult to find our waiter. Love the atmosphere here though.
Had a great time at Twisted Tail
Service was attentive and knowledgeable
Only draw back and I get it but bourbon was anywhere from $20- up for 2oz. 800% markup seems a bit perverse
But hey capitalism at its finest right
Been here for multiple dates with my husband- food is always excellent, wine is good, service is good. We come for the food menu that changes and is truly interesting!
Delicious- great meal and great old fashioned cocktail. Short Ribs are perfect.
It is probably one of my favorite restaurants in this area now! Great food and service.
I have been to the Twisted Tail many times so I decided to bring my Leadership team here to drink, dine and have a great time. It was wonderful. The food was delicious and the server was very friendly and engaging. The atmosphere was fun and we were able to take advantage of the games that they have available on the second floor. I would highly recommend this restaurant !
the cauliflower flat bread and roasted beets were the 2 best things on the menu. The wait staff was nice and answered our question about the items we ordered. Could not hear the live music well from the energetic group at the bar.
Wonderful creative cuisine. Every item delicious! Great whiskey and wine list!
Love everything except the fact that the audio upstairs plays downstairs as well but it was live music that kinda don’t suit the ambiance of downstairs
This may have been the worst dining service I’ve had yet. I took my fiancé here for his 30th birthday dinner. I had called ahead to let them know it was his birthday so if they could do something special it would be greatly appreciated.
We arrived and were sat, then waited 29 minutes for a waiter. We finally had to flag a man down to take our order. Before so much as an “I’m sorry you had to wait” he said “are you just here to drink or are you going to eat?” Almost as if he assumed we were just there for drinks and there for not a priority to him.
We place our orders and the food was great but we weren’t checked in again but maybe one other time and we were interested in placing another order but were never given the chance.
By the end of the meal we then had to wait another 15 minutes to flag the waiter down for our check which he simply dropped on our table without a word. Needless to say they did not acknowledge my fiancé’s birthday ever which would be fine if they told me they don’t do so when I originally called.
The food was fantastic but the service was the worst. Will not be back.
Enjoyed dinner here after not coming for a long time. We had a bunch of small plates to share. Everything was delicious. Had the mushroom toast, shishito peppers, mussels, broccolini, lamb meatballs. Portions were also generous.
The staff were all very friendly and efficient, especially our server Chance.
We will be back again!
The food was good - slightly higher priced than I thought it should have been given it was for four slices of toast!
Well worth the visit to the city to experience a great setting for dinner. Everything from the service to the decor, really nice. Only downfall was the seating upstairs, didn’t appreciate being squashed like sardines while trying to dine while bumping elbows with the couple next to me. Would come back, only next time request downstairs seating.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious! Our server recommended a couple of cheeses from the selection. The food was served quickly. Overall, a great experience!
Chance was super helpful and confident about questions regarding the menu.
The waitress suggested the meal for $45 because there was 7 of us and there was barely any food. We could’ve gotten more food if we would’ve bought what we wanted independently. We choose the crab cakes and it wasn’t even enough for us to get our own crab cake. We had to split a crab cake! And our $80 bowl of “punch” barely had any alcohol in it.
Restaurant was great, went on a Saturday night with 3 friends. Food was tasty, service was a little slow but food was worth it. Octopus was a little too charred for my liking but cauliflower flat bread and corn bread were delicious
The food and the whiskey selection are EXCELLENT. The cocktail list is good, but seems to cater to sweeter tastes. Service was slow and inattentive. Would definitely return, but would sit at the bar.
Food and drinks were great. Portions were a bit small but delicious. Prices a little high but good quality. Will definitely go back.
Birthday, the food was very modern southern cuisine and drinks were different but great! There was a live awesome band from Boston there that was so fitting for the restaurant and mood!
Good food. Good drinks. Great vibe!!!
Definitely check the upstairs
We were seated right away but nobody came to take out Ofer for 30 minutes. The limited menu was not posted online so the food offered that day was nothing we could really enjoy. The portions were very small and the food was bland and not enjoyable. I would not go again
A little disappointed with one of our favorite restaurants. We booked the restaurant over the weekend, through open table. Opentable posted the menu, which was completely different then what was apparently updated within the last day or two. We go to Twisted Tale with an expectation and the food we were served, although good, was completely different from their original menu. Most disappointing was no beignets! It was a pre fixe menu, so the portions were acceptable and the food decent. Service was off as well. Chalk it up to it being a holiday. But a little disappointing compared to their normal food and service.
One of our courses didn't come out on time. The noodle dish we had was very overcooked with a broth at the bottom that didn't make sense. Everything else was alright but for the 49 dollar per person price was a little steep for the quality of food and service we received.
Great food (wasn’t expecting that). Did the tasting menu for four people. Had plenty of food.
Very good small plates, excellent selection of bourbon! Food and drink reasonably priced!
Overal we both enjoyed our meal. The atmostphere was nice and I recoomend The Twisted Tail for a date night and special occasions.
Great atmosphere and good food but the server made it an event that was worthwhile.
This is the best kept secret in Philly if you are a Foodie. Everything ordered was fantastic and very well presented. However, one should never have to wait at a bar for 15 minutes for a cocktail. Bartenders were just busy doing bar stuff and not paying attention to us seated at a not so crowded bar and it was Happy Hour. Ambience had much to be desired. I get that this is a bar/restaurant and in my opinion, the place would do better without the band on the first floor. What's odd about this place is that the food is NOT bar food. It's so good and doesn't jive with the rest of the place. Hence, the name, Twisted Tail? I would go again before the band arrives just for the food!
Ended up getting the Chef's tasting menu for dinner... excellent assortment of food, all high quality, and the price was really affordable based on the quality of food in the tasting menu. Although this place is known for it's Whiskey/Bourbon list, the wines by the glass were respectable. Best of all was the VERY professional wait staff as well as the manager, who timed everything perfectly.
Ended up at this wonderful restaurant and loved it. 2nd time there and it was terrific again. Ask for server Shawn. between the food and Shawn, we will be back.
I will say the screaming young ladies at the bar waiting for their table were annoying to me but I am old and it was a Saturday evening. Maybe I will be mindful of the time we go next time. lol :)
Restaurant offers family style options and first-timer tasting combinations; live music and swanky bar scene.
The food was not spectacular. We had the chef's tasting, which was three appetizers, two entrees and a dessert. Everything came out as it was cooked, which they informed of us of. Nothing was very special. The chorizo taco came out as a full chorizo sausage in a taco shell, which was just a weird choice. The entrees were okay; the skirt steak was a little too smoky. I just wasn't wowed by the dinner.
