The Twisted Tail is a bi-level restaurant, bar and live music venue featuring a charcoal-fired grill, a wealth of bourbon selections and the rollicking ambiance of a "juke joint" (or old school Southern music hall). The inventive menu highlights ingredients in their simplest form, flame broiled over live coals for rich, authentic flavor.

Inside a warm, welcoming dining space makes The Twisted Tail South Street’s best place to catch a band - and a bite.

Food was great. Cool place. Great location. I think we were inconveniencing the server who seemed annoyed we were there.

Great dining experience! The food is so good. The happy hour prices were awesome for both food and drinks. We sat outside and it we perfect for us and we were with our young children. I would definitely recommend and return to this restaurant in the future with out without kids!

The Twisted Tail is hands down now my favorite restaurant in Philly. The ambiance is cozy, yet trendy. The food is amazing and the staff provided the best service I’ve had in a long time. The front of house team were friendly, informative and helpful (from setting up table decorations for a birthday celebration to ensuring we selected the right spot in the restaurant to celebrate - thank you Juliet!). Our server, Steve, was knowledgeable, amiable and on top of his game - we never longed for drinks, food or that extra napkin after you spilled your water glass. The food was out of this world - creative, imaginative and delicious - our party almost did our own tour of the menu - sampling the lamb chops, tuna tartare, beef tartare, oysters, burrata and tomatoes, Spanish octopus, charcuterie board, hanger steak, fried chicken, shrimp and grits and kids menu items! Also the beverages crafted by the bartender, Pat, were just what the doctor ordered from (juleps to a bourbon punch bowl)! We also got a chance to enjoy the dancing and phenomenal jazz on Sunday night. What a treat all around! Thank you to everyone who went the extra mile to make our first visit and soon to be many more visits so special! Salute!!

Go for the food; the 4 of us chose the chef's "tasting menu", where the entire table had to agree on one dish from each “category” and two dishes from the "larger plates” category. It's designed to be a small-plate sharing menu, and the chef's tasting menu resulted in actually too much food; we ended up taking home quite a bit of it. Everything we tasted was superb (well, the asparagus were thin and, I think, over-grilled). I think we could have ordered a la carte and tasted more variety, although a smaller amount of each. The one negative was the noise level; they were setting up downstairs for musicians, so we asked to go upstairs (we wanted to talk and all catch up with one another); the bar alone upstairs was noisier than even the music downstairs, so down again we went, but between the noise of the downstairs bar and the downstairs music, we ended up nearly shouting at one another. On the basis of the food, I would return, but if I do decided never to go back again, it would be because it's too noisy.

Great menu and great atmosphere. Live music was great without being so loud that we couldn't enjoy conversation at out table.

Menu is very creative and the meal and drinks were great. The seating areas are very noisy but it is a bourbon bar, as we were reminded by our server. Not a good place if you want a quiet dinner but very energetic. Great service.

The fried chicken is incredible; the whipped ricotta is a delightful surprise and very light.

It was my birthday and I had never been for brunch. We went specifically for the Chicken & Waffles. Originally we were told they were out. Then they had them and we were happy, only to find out they were out of syrup. Major disappointment. The cheesy grits and the crawfish Mac and cheese appetizers were great. But the main course wasn’t. I’ll give them another try, just not for brunch again.

This is our go to spot in the city and we are never disappointed! Chris, our server, was very attentive , knowledgeable and passionate about the spirits and food. We had a leisurely meal and drinks without feeling pressured or neglected . Just perfect as usual ! Smoked ribs , short rib, cheese board , pasta and desserts . If you must choose one desset get the beignets!! Also if you want it a bit less energetic ask for a table away from the bar. We were right next to it and loved the vibe but it can get very loud.

While the food was good, I felt like the menu was unnecessarily complicated. We were satisfied with each person getting an appetizer and an entree, but the staff kept pushing the forty-five dollar tasting menu which didn't seem like a deal at all.

Good find - 3 adults and a teen shared about 8 small plates of fresh interesting food. Decent beer list, but I did think that my $15 Manhattan (no top shelf specified) was a bit pricey!

Driving back from AC after a day of golf. Looking for a fun vibe and Twisted Tail was a perfect place. Loved our waitress from Nashville. So friendly and great. Loved the food selection and laid back atmosphere. Will make the drive down for Philly for this one again.

We took my husband to Twisted Tail for Father's Day. It was the best decision we made because we could not decide where to go. This place has the best food and best ambiance. In addition, it has a little game room upstairs where you can sit and drink and play games and listen to the music. We will definitely go back.

Ambiance was perfect, music was great, and entertainment. Every items we had was delicious, slightly pricey. Didn't like they deduct their own gratuity, but I would have paid the percentage. They worked for it, service was very accommodating.

So loud you couldn't hear the people across the table (band wasn't even on yet), didn't mix the juleps (and served without stirrer) so last gulp was a mouthful of sugar, and it was about 80 degrees in there. I left sweaty, deaf and with tooth decay. Maybe I'm just getting old...

Too many good things to say about the Twisted Tail! The service is excellent with waiters taking the time to explain and pitch the wide variety of drink and food options. I was sold on the special bourbon made just for them, and it was amazing. Scallops, steak and salad were perfect - gotta go back to try the rest of of the very creative menu....

Food was amazing, and service crew was nice- even offered to charge my phone, however they didn’t check in on us at all. We waited over 20 minutes for the appetizer and plates were delivered at different times. There was no attempt to even refill drinks, bring napkins or ask if we needed anything. Wait person walked by us four times to clean tables. They were not very busy. The table next to us had a server that was frequently checking on them so it was our server that ruined it. Pricing was a bit higher than expected for the what we ordered.
Nice atmosphere!

Great selection of different Cheese to go with Wine. Great for an appetizer.
When you go DO NOT miss getting the Grilled Swordfish. Excellent meal.
I also HIGHLY recommend the Brussel Sprouts. The sauce that comes with
them is exceptional. Your Mom/Grandmom will also be proud of you for getting
them and eating ALL of your Veggies!!

Found this restaurant using Open Table reviews, and it did not disappoint. Food was outstanding -- delicious and creative. Cocktails were amazing. Service was friendly, but because it is a tapas restaurant, the food comes out as soon as it is ready. Unfortunately, of the 6 plates we ordered, 4 of them came out within a 5-minute timespan. There wasn't enough room on the table for everything (but they piled it up anyway) and there wasn't really time to enjoy the food as it came out. That withstanding, I'd definitely come here again.

Couldn't have been happier with my first dinner experience at The Twisted Tail. A friend and I chose to do the chef's tasting, which was $45 per person for a choice of 3 small plates, 2 entrees, 1 side and a dessert to shared between us (I'm assuming they take into account the number ordering for correct portion size) Food was excellent!! Our waiter was very friendly and helpful!! Highly recommended!!

The place was fantastic. I was there for a business dinner and sat right by the entertainment, so my one suggestion would be to ensure you are not sat next to the singer/band so you can hear. It was a little loud for a business meal... perfect when there were musical breaks though!

Food was incredible! Would definitely go back for that. Service was just okay. Took a while to be greeted and get our order. We ordered a second round of drinks and it took almost 30 minutes to get. Server was not attentive at all and only seemed to care about certain tables. Obviously our table was not of relevance. Overall good experience, but service was lacking.

This was my 4th time to Twisted Tail for a group brunch gathering, 5-8 people. Each time we had plenty of space at a nice table on the first floor. We usually go around Noon, and this place does not tend to get super crowded that early. There's always ample parking in the immediate area, either metered, parking garage or street. So, its easy as a meeting spot for people coming into the city from surrounding areas.
The service is consistent and friendly. They don't rush you out, so its a nice place to get time to talk.
The food is always good and the drink options are good as well. Prices are moderate, but seem reasonable for what you get.
Would definitely recommend this place for other groups.

I had a reservation for 8:30 so that I could eat dinner and then enjoy the live music that started at 9. We were sat right away and greeted within minutes. The food was amazing, the live music was awesome, and the drinks we ordered came out to us right away. If you haven’t yet been here, I highly recommend this as a place to go to for a late dinner and drinks afterwards.

Good food including great BBQ, some small plates and some full size entrees, timing was a bit odd as they came out at all different times leaving some folks hungry. Great live music and bar games upstairs but felt overpriced for what it was ($28 for two draft beers and a tequila on the rocks) - that said the price meant it was a mixed age group crowd and not too packed which was nice.
