The Turf Room Ratings and Reviews
Food was "fair". The Korean Popcorn Shrimp had breading that caused the shrimp to stick together and end up mushy. The Cobb salad with steak was so-so. Expected better given the atmosphere of the environment and the prices. Mixed drinks weren't very good either. The place was packed for a Saturday night which is a good problem to have. The value for the money was not there however.
We love the Turf Room. Always a delicious meal and great dining experience. Love the fireplace in the center of the dining room. The wait staff is very knowledgeable about your food. They’ll tell you what’s in it and how it was prepared. With little behind the scenes tidbits. Always a great time.
Four of us ladies met for lunch yesterday, expecting to have great food and a nice atmosphere in which to talk. I had made a reservation, but for some reason we were seated in the back room, alone most of the time we were there. The restaurant was not busy at all, and it was puzzling to us why we had not been seated near the fireplace in a more well-lit room. We were very pleased with the unusual offerings and interesting combinations of different types of food. Even though it was not a busy day for the Turf Room, we did not see much of our waiter. We waited and waited for refills on coffee, and the only way we got them was after having to ask. It was odd. I sat for over a half hour with cold coffee. When we asked for something, our request was granted, but the way we were left mostly on our own was not in keeping with the reputation of this restaurant. Because of this lack of service, I would hesitate to go again.
First, our compliments to the chef, Chris, as our meal was outstanding. In fact, we just returned from NYC and our meal was at the same caliber or better than the fine dining restaurants we visited there! There were four in our party and we all chose an entree based on suggestions from our waitress -Ashley. Great recommendations and delicious meal. We will be back! This is a true gem in the Western suburbs of Chicagoland❤️
It was very uncomfortable because the temperature of the restaurant must have been in the 80's. All 4 of us sweated through dinner which was not enjoyable. We could not wait to go outside where it was 0 degrees. I love this restaurant for its food but I would hesitate about recommending it or returning because of this past experience.
I have enjoyed dining at The Turf Room many times. I took my family there for a special New Year's Eve dinner. While the food and the ambiance were wonderful as always, my wife and I were pretty disappointed in the service. We sat at our table for 15 - 20 minutes before our server even came to our table initially and took our drink order. Then our first drinks we ordered took another 20 minutes or so to be served. Our main course also took an inordinately lengthy period of time. We had to request bread and butter (generally brought initially when the water is poured) three times and did not receive it until our main courses were served. Tables around us, many of whom were being waited on by another server, came and went during our far-too-lengthy meal, particularly given it was a family meal and children do not generally have the same level of patience we adults do.
The Turf Room is our number one choice for dining. We have been going since they opened and have always had amazing service and the quality of food and beverage is second to none. Two of our children are now of age to appreciate what The Turf Room has to offer and it has become their go-to as well! The Turf Room is a big part of our family fabric and has given us a place to come together with family and friends and celebrate life!
Decent Sunday brunch. Not a huge selection, but all the usuals were present... Waffles, bacon, ham, sausage, scrambled eggs, plus an omelette station and carved prime rib.
Some food items needed quicker stocking or were on the lukewarm side.
Moderate brunch price.
Service was good.
The restaurant, and the food, are usually terrific. Unfortunately, after having a couple of fabulous drinks at the bar to start our evening, a few disappointing things did occur. The salmon, which I've always enjoyed (cooked medium), was definitely on the rare side when brought to the table. It needed to be cooked further, but while the other meal was presented perfectly, my salmon had to go back. In my estimation, it's very difficult to recook, or further cook a piece of salmon to perfection. The other meal had to be eaten while hot, while I was waiting for my food to return to the table. Very unlike our many previous visits there. Also, to my surprise, there was an additional charge when I asked for olive oil when enjoying the rolls. Olive oil, instead of butter for the rolls. Is that so unheard-of? Very surprised, regardless of the nominal charge. Also, once the salmon came back to the table (a little dry, but not raw like before), I requested a little honey mustard for the salmon, which also resulted in another nominal charge. I probably should have asked to speak to a manager about the salmon, however it was probably the servers job to do that. Overall,,, this time out fell way short of the usual perfect evening at the Turf Room.
Went to the Turf Room for a Saturday night out with friends. Having been there multiple times for lunch we enjoyed the night time experience. Super busy but service was amazing and we al enjoyed wonderful meals. Had a few drinks at the bar while waiting and the bartenders and bar backs were very friendly and nice to chat with.
We went in thinking we’d love the restaurant. It fell way short of expectations. The only food item that was very good was the bison steak. The other $60 steak my husband ordered was average at best, the lobster Mac was awful and had no lobster, the apples and cheese salad was a coleslaw with no flavor. Where we were seated was SO hot I wanted to strip off my clothes. We couldn’t wait to leave. We got our check and went elsewhere for dessert and a glass of wine.
I’m sorry but if you’re charging $60 for a steak it should be amazing. I make better Mac n cheese at home.
I hope it was an off night for the restaurant. We will not be back.
Terrible service for a holiday gathering! Waited for 25 minutes for the bill. Sat for 45 minutes after finished eating and asking for the bill. My husband watched server who stood waiting for drinks to be made (for 15 minutes) rather than wait on others. Very odd. Food was just ok, not worth the prices. Very sad as I was expecting a wonderful dinner, instead we got a comedian, terrible service and mediocre food.
We have been going to Turf Room since it opened. It is always a great place to enjoy a unique meal and the wood burning fireplace is fantastic. It adds to the ambiance and smells that fill the restaurant. Great people, great food...what else would you need to have a great night?
It was an excellent experience. We had a great business dinner for 7 with excellent service and food. A few of us stayed after for a drink by the bar. My only critique would be there was WAY too much wood on the indoor fire. If it had not been so uncomfortably HOT, we would have probably stayed for several drinks.
