Tulip is always as good as you expect, great menu staples and nightly specials that are inventive and flavorful.
My new favorite restaurant in Lexington. Food is great and the service is perfect. The prices are reasonable and the menu is outstanding. Wish they were open for lunch!!!!
We went for the special entrees with Carolina shrimp.. Fabulous goat cheese salad. Awesome ham-wrapped shrimp stuff with crab. Wonderful ravioli. Amazing she-crab soup. Excellent service.
My mother and her husband were in town and we decided to have a late dinner here. Our waitress was prompt, explained the specials and made us feel comfortable. The food was great! We were very happy with both the food and the service.
My wife and I love the food here but the accoustics are terrible. You can barely have a conversation in the place it is so loud. Great oysters along with a wonderful menu are worth the visit but I hope you have a quieter time than we have had.
This is a charming restaurant: attentive staff, delicious food, very comfortable.
We love the oysters Rockefeller. Everything we have had there is awesome. The service is great.
I would highly recommend The Tulip and will certainly return. Our food and drinks were incredible, the host was very friendly and the waiter knew the menu inside out.
I always enjoy both the food and atmosphere at The Tulip. However, on this particular visit, the noise level was intolerable. We sat as far away from the bar as possible, but still could not hear to talk. If you go, be sure to have the she-crab soup. It is outstanding-a meal in itself. Highly recommend this restaurant for a casual night out.
The only thing preventing me from giving four stars was the noise--I didn't expect it to be so noisy. Besides that it was a lovely dining experience--it's a very attractive restaurant and our food was excellent. We had the burger and a seafood special. Will definitely return but will ask to sit away from the bar. :)
Last night was the first time I dined at Tulip. Very nice menu. The food was superb! Kudos to the chef with the nice touch who graciously made some substitutions on the salmon special. The food and wine prices were more than reasonable. The manager/owner checked on us often and was most helpful. My only complaint in what was a perfect dining experience was the noise level - 2 nearby tables had very loud parties making it difficult for our group of 3 to converse. Other than that I wouldn't change a thing and will go back hopefully on a quieter night.
Was so loud couldn't carry on normal conversation in restaurant portion. Service very slow. Was told the "special" of the day was $25 but when bill came was $35. Also dessserts were terrrible...Husband ordered a fruit tart type which was only whipped cream with a few berries on top. I ordered a pound cake type of thing with mascerated strawberries...cake was so dry could barely swallow and the berries were just a few sliced. They did take the cake off the bill when I asked.
The food is spectacular. The service varies on different nights. Would have received a 5 star if we would have been seated where the noise level wasn't on 100.
My wife and I love to come here on date night. The food and service are both equally fantastic. I'd highly recommend trying the short ribs they're fantastic!
1st trip through Lexington and glad to find this place. Very good food and great service.
Varied menu with excellent choices. Food was perfectly prepared. We were there on a Friday night and had a difficult time conversing due to the high noise level.
We love the Tulip! Food never disappoints. Bar can sometimes get too loud.
The service and food was outstanding the menu is outstanding when my wife and travel to Lexington KY this is our #1 place for dinner. Great job to the staff and management I recommended it to all my MSTATE alumni in Lexington for the football
Each item was well prepared and fresh. The wait staff sufficient. On the night we were there it was nearly impossible to hear each other.
I've never been disappointed in the food at Tulip and I've tried lots of things. The salmon special this time was SO good. The burger is one of the best in town. However, parking is so tight there that we go less & less. The lot is tiny & Suggins customers fill it. This time the whole area was packed for some reason; had to drop my mother off and drive around and around before finally parking on the street a block away. One of the reasons I no longer live in San Francisco or Chicago is that I got tired of wasting my life hunting for parking, so I really resist going to a place around here that's that hard. We also generally go pretty early because Tulip gets very noisy when it's crowded but we were later this time and it was deafening.
Dined at the Tulip for the firs time 10-18-14. Unfortunately there was a noise level so intense that we could barely hear the server review the specials. Finally the manager went over and spoke with the party whom we think was a future bride and her friends. The manager waited a good 15 minutes before approaching them.
This was the first time in a very long time my wife and I had the opportunity to dine with old college buddies we first met in the 70's. Really put a damper on the evening.
We went to Tulips for our anniversary the food was great but it was way to loud to really enjoy our experience. I would only eat outside or do take out.
My first time there but was highly recommended by a family member. Everything was great! I got my 'steak fix', was absolutely delicious!
It had been almost a year since the last time we were there and maybe the saying "good things come those who wait" really is true. From the Asparagus/Leek and the Shecrab soups thru the salads and Salmon specials everything was excellent. There is no doubt that we won't wait another year before returning.
I found the food and service to be outstanding. When I first arrived the noise level was quite high, but after a few minutes it was much more pleasant.
A perfect night out for a romantic with your love one. I will be back. My first visit. An excellent evening.
great service. fun atmosphere. our first time there. Lots of selection on the appetizer menu-I had the mahi taco-it was great and an excellent value. the braised short ribs were good but my wife's filet was fantastic! I never order steak unless I know it's special but that's what I'll be getting when we return.
Good food, reasonably priced for a weekday evening meal. Definitely a neighborhood favorite.
This was our visit to The Tulip. Cute location, nice decor, VERY noisy...not the quiet dinner we hoped for. Friendly but erratic service, eg, we had to ask for oyster forks and soup spoons. Food items a bit over the top in complexity. Excellent cocktails helped ease the pain so I'm planning to give it another try.
Sat outside which is nice. Waitress gave me a good wine selection. When we ordered our meals, waitress said she would be bringing bread and our salad. Bread finally arrived with the main course after asking for it three times. They were perhaps missing some staff as it took a while to get some extra ketchup too, and the staff seemed to be working hard. The house salad was nice with their sherry vinaigrette. I ordered the seafood trip for my entree. It was good, not great. The best were the mussels in a non-cream broth. The blackened mahi mahi was over-salted. I still like coming here & will return.
As always the food is spot on perfect. Our waiter whose name I forgot was great not pushy and offered great selections. The menu has something for everyone. The chef Spencer van den Dool is the best in Lexington!
I love this place! We intent to frequent this restaurant.
Based on the menu selection (and the price) I had high hopes for delicious food. We were somewhat disappointed. Nothing was "bad" by any means, but it wasn't that great either. The highlight for me was the She-Crab soup, which is my favorite type of soup and was very good. My entree, however, left me disappointed. I had the short ribs, and if it wasn't for the bone staring back at me, I would have believed I was eating a simple pot roast. Our waitress wasn't that great either. She left us with the impression that the people at the table next to us were much more important to her simply based on the number of times she stopped at our table compared to theirs. I will admit that they were dressed nicer than us. Would we go back? Probably not.
I have been to the Tulip before and really enjoyed it. However, this visit was not enjoyable. There were a lot of people in the bar area and they were loud that my friend and I could not hear each other. We each had hamburgers. I ordered mine "medium." It arrived well done and it was extremely salty. It was not an enjoyable dinner but I will give The Tulip another chance.
We have been here 5-6 times in the past year, and it is always wonderful. The food is excellent, and the service is professional. Great menu for small bites or unique dinners.
My experience was very pleasant. This was a date night for me, and we were well taken care of. The food and the service was top notch, and my date and I enjoyed everything that found its way to our table. The appearance of the restaurant is lovely.
The Tulip was a bit noisy later on, however. And that was a little distracting at times. I'm not sure what can be done about that, but that was the only unsatisfactory factor of my visit.
Overall, compliments to the owner, chef, and staff. My date and I had a good time.
The menu is diverse enough. Personally, I'd like to see more seafood options. I like the creativity with the dishes. I had the polenta with chicken. Good idea but the polenta was DRY-needed less cooking as well as a sauce. The dish was served with broccolini, one of my faves, but it was overcooked. Liked my wine. Our guests enjoyed their meal of seared tuna and salmon.
Superior food and service outweigh the high noise level and rather heavy decor. The yellowfin tuna was as good as you would find anywhere. Food arrived promptly and was attractively presented. Wait-staff were very professional.
Loved the food and atmosphere. Only complaint was noise level, felt like we had to scream to hear each other.
We have enjoyed Tulip a number of times & the food NEVER disappoints. Have sampled many of the delicious appetizers. Amazing salads & entrees. On this occasion, we tasted short ribs, filet mignon, salmon with jalapeño grits, and tuna. The chocolate & vanilla creme brûlée was delightful.
Cocktails are refreshing & light.
Unfortunately, you should avoid weekends or go alone because the noise prohibits conversation.
