About The Tropicale

A chic and sophisticated décor provides the setting for our distinctive "world cuisine", a provocative mix of zesty influences that creates a delightful dining experience in Palm Springs, California. Plush high-backed semicircular banquettes surround our dining room and offer comfortable and private seating. The cuisine has a light, exotic feel with an emphasis on Pacific Rim specialties, from Chilean Sea Bass baked in Banana Leaves or Kahlua-Barbecued Pork Chops to all sorts of tasty tapas, salads, wood-fired pizzas, and desserts. The Coral Seas Lounge, a hip mid-century style bar is lined with sexy black leather bar-stools and is reminiscent of the upbeat lounges of old Palm Springs. It wraps around the dining room and leads outside to a lush, tropical, 2000 square foot dining patio where a variety of specialty cocktails and old-school favorites are mixed - an ideal place where friends gather and martinis are sipped under the starlit desert sky.

Atmosphere was great, my meal was great, my wife's was not. She sent her steak (ordered medium rare) back because it was fully cooked, and the second try was medium at best. Great atmosphere; food, meh.

I like Tropicale, especially sitting outdoors. I'll actually be there twice this week. But dinner recently was a little disappointing. The fried chicken tasted good at first but became rather gloppy. I've had excellent pork chops there, especially the Cuban, but the Hawaiian, which a friend had, isn't as good. Big desserts at high prices. Key lime pie with a mountain of meringue is ordinary. So perhaps we just need to make better choices next time.

We had tables on each side of us less than 12 inches .. we might has we had a table for 6 instead of 2 .. talked we all 4 sets of people next to us . I had just said I feel like they have us like sardines and the next table came and sat down and said the same comment .
There we tables a foot behind us too . To get out , the table behind us had to stand .
Waiter sucked cause he couldn’t get to our table .. no place to maneuver to fill our waters .. we got out as quickly as possible .. what a waste of 80.00 ..
the patio should have never had so many tables , I am sure it was a code violation ..
if I ever go back I won’t sit on patio ..I feel bad I told my new husband how nice tropical was , his first experience there wasn’t very good .
Our first Valentine’s Day .. total bust

Not impressive. Food was so-so. Service was average. Food server, unsatisfactory. He was rushed and made us feel uncomfortable when ordering. My burger would have been more enjoyable at Mc Donald’s and much cheaper, I might add. Will we return? No.

I was disappointed by my dinner at Tropicale. The decor is a kitschy throwback to a 1960's Hawaiian theme done wrong. I didn't really find the atmosphere that appetizing. But I've heard it's better if you dine outside. Our waiter sounded like a used car salesman, pushing us to buy extras with a pitch about how this and that had won an award. At his recommendation I ordered the pork chop. The pork chop was dry, which is understandable because it was a really thick cut and I it's hard to cook a pork chop that's thicker than an inch without drying it out. It was served on rice with spam in it. Which was really weird. I know pineapple/spam rice is a thing in Hawaii but it is weird to serve meat on meat. Especially a nice cut like a pork chop on cheap processed spam. This paired with the pupu platter as an appetizer which was 80% meat. After dinner I felt like I got my protein for the next three months. I did enjoy the live pianist crooning standards in that old 60s style.

The food, (buttermilk chicken, pork chop, salad) and wine, service and ambiance of the patio were all very good, with one caveat: my husband and I split a salad, resulting in an upcharge of $5.00 of which we had not been informed by the waiter, and only discovered when our bill came.

Great service once again from Chris & Mikey at the bar. Sea bass was great from the special menu.

Never a bad meal, we are weekly diners and would recommend Tropical any time. Always ask for Chris & Mikey for your bartenders

Great place for a fun meal in a fun atmosphere. Absolutely enjoyed the unique decor. The menu is somewhat all over the place, but lots of great selections. The wine and cocktail list was tantalizing! We had great service. Bustling place for a Sunday night, so we knew we would have a great experience. Definitely recommend.

We were taken to a table set for 3 even though we were a party of 4 with reservations. This table had umbrellas that started out blocking the sun but it was right in my eyes for the last part of our meal. I think it was the wrong table, perfect for a party of 3. Maybe the concierge told the seater the wrong table number.
Despite the sun, the service was great and the vibe was fun. The food I ordered was great and a huge portion. I had the morning after breakfast that required 2 plates. Great place, I’m a regular now.

We eat here at least 2 or 3 times a month. They have the most outstanding Burger, the best ever........I have trouble trying to order something new because I love it so much, and it is the only place in the world you can get a burger like this. Out of my last 10 times here I will bet that I have had it at least 7 or 8 times.
The last time I when I actually tried the Caesar salad with blackened Salmon, it was very good.
My son who is 34 has the burger every time. like for the last 20 times.
We have taken many friends there and they all love it. No one has ever been disappointed.

We loved EVERYTHING! Malory, our server didn't blink an eye at any request we had and had excellent recommendations. We each got something different and all was crazy good. I don't think it was over priced at all. Six (DELICIOUS!) drinks and 4 entree's, one salad came to $200 or so. I would go back. I want to go back!

I live in PS but I bring all my visitors here. I've introduced many "snow birds" to Tropical.
My two best friends from LA insist on eating the Small Plates at least one night every time they come to PS. I've never been disappointed and absolutely love Tropical.

We brought our out-of-town friends here for dinner. We all loved The Tropicale. Our selections were diverse: Southern fried chicken dinner, miso-glazed steelhead salmon & black rice bowl, and the pork Osso Bucco special (very tasty but the pork was overcooked), and a noodle bowl. Everyone stated their meals were excellent. The wine options are great too. They had a nice Sauvignon Blanc feature that was divine. And my husband LOVED his martini with olives.

The servers are very attentive, and it is so nice to dine in a restaurant that is not too noisy - you can actually have great conversations and hear your dining companions talk.

The ambiance at the Tropicale is the best part. It has a classy midcentury vibe that oozes charm and appeal reminiscent of the Frank Sinatra era.

We definitely recommend dining here, and this might just become our "go to" restaurant while in Palm Springs.

Lovely to dine outside under the darkening sky. Service is fine although a bit impersonal. It’s the food that’s the problem. A recent dinner for three was lacking in every way. Soggy fried chicken, overcooked or warmed over meatloaf, and unexceptional, flavorless Osso buco. Sides were similarly bland. It’s an imaginative menu poorly and carelessly executed by the kitchen. And expensive. Dinner for three with drinks beforehand? $155
