About The Tropicale
A chic and sophisticated décor provides the setting for our distinctive "world cuisine", a provocative mix of zesty influences that creates a delightful dining experience in Palm Springs, California. Plush high-backed semicircular banquettes surround our dining room and offer comfortable and private seating. The cuisine has a light, exotic feel with an emphasis on Pacific Rim specialties, from Chilean Sea Bass baked in Banana Leaves or Kahlua-Barbecued Pork Chops to all sorts of tasty tapas, salads, wood-fired pizzas, and desserts. The Coral Seas Lounge, a hip mid-century style bar is lined with sexy black leather bar-stools and is reminiscent of the upbeat lounges of old Palm Springs. It wraps around the dining room and leads outside to a lush, tropical, 2000 square foot dining patio where a variety of specialty cocktails and old-school favorites are mixed - an ideal place where friends gather and martinis are sipped under the starlit desert sky.

The Tropicale Ratings and Reviews
Very disappointed in management. Made a reservation 3 months in advance for 30th birthday for larger group, manager calls me 12 minutes before our reservation asking if we can push it back an hour due to weather. Made some excuses about the weather forecast and my name on the list, but the truth is poor communication and bad management. Avoid for any special occasion.
Tropicale is one of the 'hot' locations in Palm Springs. We went on a Saturday night, so we knew what we were getting into. We expected it to be very busy, and it was. BUT - we got a place at the bar and had an excellent drink, from a friendly and professional bartender. We were called to our table within a couple minutes of our reservation time. We had excellent table service, from a professional and personable server. The menu was eclectic, but we both found something we liked. Tropicale deserves its reputation and the volume of business they get - it's simply a fun, quality, exciting place to go.
This is our third time to patronize Tropicale in just as many trips to Palm Springs and we are always pleased. But we were especially impressed this time by the personalized care of the host and hostess to seat us inside for our special occasion so we could appreciate the wonderful ambiance of the Tropicale. Every course was delicious and the drinks were beautiful and creative concoctions of the nectar of the gods!
And where would my husband and I choose to spend Valentine's Day?? In our favorite restaurant...by the fountain (honored our request!!) with great food, ambiance and service...thank you Mallory!! We are here often and love each visit...though the regular menu is fabulous, Tony has many specials that we select from since we have enjoyed most of the regulars!!! YOU should have that "problem"!! We love it...
We were there for Valentines day. The drinks are amazing. I had a coconut martini and my husband had a cucumber watermelon mojito. The food was pretty good but I think not as good as usual because they were so busy for Valentines day. Would definitely go back.
I like Tropicale, especially sitting outdoors. I'll actually be there twice this week. But dinner recently was a little disappointing. The fried chicken tasted good at first but became rather gloppy. I've had excellent pork chops there, especially the Cuban, but the Hawaiian, which a friend had, isn't as good. Big desserts at high prices. Key lime pie with a mountain of meringue is ordinary. So perhaps we just need to make better choices next time.
We had tables on each side of us less than 12 inches .. we might has we had a table for 6 instead of 2 .. talked we all 4 sets of people next to us . I had just said I feel like they have us like sardines and the next table came and sat down and said the same comment .
There we tables a foot behind us too . To get out , the table behind us had to stand .
Waiter sucked cause he couldn’t get to our table .. no place to maneuver to fill our waters .. we got out as quickly as possible .. what a waste of 80.00 ..
the patio should have never had so many tables , I am sure it was a code violation ..
if I ever go back I won’t sit on patio ..I feel bad I told my new husband how nice tropical was , his first experience there wasn’t very good .
Our first Valentine’s Day .. total bust
I was disappointed by my dinner at Tropicale. The decor is a kitschy throwback to a 1960's Hawaiian theme done wrong. I didn't really find the atmosphere that appetizing. But I've heard it's better if you dine outside. Our waiter sounded like a used car salesman, pushing us to buy extras with a pitch about how this and that had won an award. At his recommendation I ordered the pork chop. The pork chop was dry, which is understandable because it was a really thick cut and I it's hard to cook a pork chop that's thicker than an inch without drying it out. It was served on rice with spam in it. Which was really weird. I know pineapple/spam rice is a thing in Hawaii but it is weird to serve meat on meat. Especially a nice cut like a pork chop on cheap processed spam. This paired with the pupu platter as an appetizer which was 80% meat. After dinner I felt like I got my protein for the next three months. I did enjoy the live pianist crooning standards in that old 60s style.
The food, (buttermilk chicken, pork chop, salad) and wine, service and ambiance of the patio were all very good, with one caveat: my husband and I split a salad, resulting in an upcharge of $5.00 of which we had not been informed by the waiter, and only discovered when our bill came.
Great place for a fun meal in a fun atmosphere. Absolutely enjoyed the unique decor. The menu is somewhat all over the place, but lots of great selections. The wine and cocktail list was tantalizing! We had great service. Bustling place for a Sunday night, so we knew we would have a great experience. Definitely recommend.
