About The Tropicale
A chic and sophisticated décor provides the setting for our distinctive "world cuisine", a provocative mix of zesty influences that creates a delightful dining experience in Palm Springs, California. Plush high-backed semicircular banquettes surround our dining room and offer comfortable and private seating. The cuisine has a light, exotic feel with an emphasis on Pacific Rim specialties, from Chilean Sea Bass baked in Banana Leaves or Kahlua-Barbecued Pork Chops to all sorts of tasty tapas, salads, wood-fired pizzas, and desserts. The Coral Seas Lounge, a hip mid-century style bar is lined with sexy black leather bar-stools and is reminiscent of the upbeat lounges of old Palm Springs. It wraps around the dining room and leads outside to a lush, tropical, 2000 square foot dining patio where a variety of specialty cocktails and old-school favorites are mixed - an ideal place where friends gather and martinis are sipped under the starlit desert sky.

The Tropicale Ratings and Reviews
I was there in the past for cocktails and brunch, but for dinner was very disappointed. The entrees were just mediocre by Palm Springs standards, and the service - while super friendly - was spotty. They were there when you didn't need them and gone when you did. For example, from finishing our meal to getting our check paid, it took 20 minutes. I like the Tropicale, but I'll skip it for dinner.
Tropicale is consistently a wonderful experience. The indoor dining room is beautiful but the patio area is the best. All of the staff are friendly and attentive and the kitchen ensures the food is always prepared to strict standards and in a timely manner. This is our go to for entertaining out of town visitors. It is always memorable.
I am a huge fan of the Tropicale and go there quite often. I decided to use OpenTable to book a reservation for Wednesday night, when they have happy hour all evening. However, we were not seated in a section in which happy hour applies. It only applies at the bar and inside and we were seated outside and therefore were not entitled to happy hour prices. I don't know if it's possible and maybe I should have called, but it would be nice if OpenTable had a place where you could request happy hour seating.
I always bring guests visiting me in Palm Springs to The Tropicale...great vintage restaurant and a fabulous outdoor garden space..has great happy hour, great food and wonderful specials and fantastic creative signature cocktails...everyone I bring here just loves it
Tropicale never fails. All our dinners have been excellent -- fine food and enjoyable ambience. We prefer being outside but inside has its pleasures too. Service is generally excellent, altho it was a little rushed in our most recent experience. Out of town guests who went to Tropicale for the first time loved it.
We have utilized Tropicale 4 times in the past 2-years. The first was a tasting evening, then a Patio event for 20 people for a 70th birthday, followed by a small lunch group, and, finally, for an internal dinner with friends from Connecticut, the only night it has ever rained in Palm Springs. We love the atmosphere created both inside and out on the marvelous Patio. Consistently, the wait staff is courteous, professional and attentive. The cocktail menu invites trial and rewards with charm. The food menu also delivers a diverse and intriguing variety of choices. We started with the Pu-Pu platter and followed with a salad and pizza array. Everything was delicious and satisfying.
Do go to Tropicale. And do start on the Patio for Happy Hour. It is always a wonderful venue for large gatherings. And there is always a number of similar groups enjoying the essence of Palm Springs. That is why we drive 1.5 hours.
Whenever in Palm Springs - I go 4 times a year, I always make sure I go to Tropicale. The staff is wonderful, there is a great vibe, the food is always consistently great. Sometimes we go and just have apps at the bar and they are substantial and diverse.
A must to try!
It's difficult for me to leave this review of a restaurant I like a lot.
There were two of us - I had an excellent starter and an excellent main. My guest however, was not so fortunate. His starter was good, but the beet pho was a disgrace. An attempt at a main course which would hardly have made the grade as an appetizer. Quantity - minescule; flavor - hard to pin because it was literally flavorless.
Whereas I had to box BOTH my over ample and delicious octopus appetizer, and my equally ample and tasty wild mushroom noodle dish for dinner the next day, my guest left hungry.
I’ve eaten at Tropicale many times and it continues to be my favorite restaurant. From small plates to full dinners, the food and the prices are without peer. It’s a classic Palm Springs joint with a touch of South Beach.
Good food service was great at the beginning but fell by the wayside as the evening went on. Portions are ridiculously large but all food was very tasty.. funny atmosphere. Sort of expected Tony Bennet to walk in and do a set! Ace was hopping and it was a Tuesday night!
We enjoyed a wonderful dining experience! The staff at The Tropicale are top notch! The hostess was friendly and provided us with a great table near the fountain on the beautifully lit patio. Our waiter was attentive and the service was excellent! Our meals were delicious and we would definitely return!
Have gone many times and found the food to be consistently fair to good (but that's all of Palm Springs). Went for New Year's Eve dinner with a $110 prix fixe menu and was hesitant to pay that much with prior experiences. Surprisingly the food was very good and I think was worth it for a New Year's experience.
It's the other diners that make the experience fun and interesting here, along with the outdoor setting, the inside decor and the bar. The food is fair to good (like all of Palm Springs) and my only other minor complaint is that the service is very efficient, but not very professional and lacks polish.
Made the reservation and two weeks prior (too late to book into another venue) I received a call stating they would be having a price fixed menu for $110 per person for the evening. Our reservation was at 7pm so we would be out prior to NYE festivities. They also could not tell me the menu. Our table was a 6 foot folding table they popped up in the patio. The amuse Bouche was seafood round crab cake that sat on a small spoon. Three of us had the leek soup as a starter (which was great) one had the steak tartare. We had bread plates set. I asked for some and the waiter said “ we were told since it’s a price fixed menu we will not be serving bread” ( I think he mistook our $110pp price with the discounted blue plate special somewhere else) Main dish selection was a fish veal pork or a vegetarian. I had the veal chop which was so full of fat and the side of polenta was dried out. Dessert was one choice some raspberry, pistachio, chocolate thing. No coffee was served or offered. Only about 40% of the outside tables were full. The wait staff could have been dressed better then their dirty polo/T-shirt’s. My view was the end of the bar which I was able to watch him eat a plate of food while working.
I have eaten here many times and will think twice before coming back. It was more then price gouging it was service the food selection gouging too.
Tropicale is quintessential Palm Springs and a beautiful place to eat. The food is increasingly mediocre and the service increasingly inconsistent. That said, it’s an appropriate place to start the Palm Springs experience with out-of-towners.
The menu is too diverse, they should specialize in one or two types of food and do that really well. Appetizers were ok. But the fried chicken which was recommended, was not cooked enough. The batter was still raw. Waiter was good. Pretty patio.
Great dinner once again, the sea food special with sword fish, octopus was great actually ordered it twice.
The food and drinking are always great, the service from Chris and Mickey at the bar is outstanding and Dan one of our waiters is great as well.
We would recommend any meal or drink from Tropical. We are weekly diners.
Dinner on the patio was sublime. The service was speedy, the food delicious, the noise, well the fountain helped mellow it out. Amazing that every single table was occupied with happy eaters before 6:00p.m. The choices are wonderful and the eating, well, wonderful.
