The Troll Pub opened on October 19th 2011, underneath the 2nd Street Bridge in a 135 year old space directly next to the YUM Center on historic Whiskey Row. The Troll Pub is a subterranean retreat that features a Gastro-pub style menu with a wide selection of great tasting food items, craft beer, local artwork, and an overall atmosphere unique to Louisville. We are just blocks from the Louisville Convention Center and only steps away from many of the hottest attractions and hotels situated downtown. We used apple maps (Yelp) to pick a spot. This was it in Louisville. The place was really cool. Noise level was loud. HOWEVER, we came in around 4-5pm. The waiters with blue hair was SWAMPED and over capacity with the large section she was in. We ordered drinks after sitting around unapproached or unacknowledged 10 mins. I asked for a diet coke and she snarkly said we dont have that we have COKE products. I said fine whatever diet cola you have is fine....she took our drink order and our appetizer order. Told her we'd order dinner later on. Food comes out. No refill on drinks. Quesidilla was okay. Clearly could tell they didn't oil the flattop when they cooked it as it had no color or crisp to it. Otherwise it was fine. I order the Frickles (Fried pickles) .... They were a soggy mess slopped in a basket soaked in oil that probably should have beenn thrown out days prior. I couldnt' eat them. The breading was falling off. The basket had a pool of oil in the bottom. I brought this to the waitresses attention showing her they were clearly cooked in oil that was old and not to a minumum frying temperature and that i couldn't eat them and she put the problem on me by stating " ooh so you dont like them " . I said actually, they are prepared incorreclty. Clearly you can see theyre' soggy and not cooked right ,,,, RIGHT? She said she's take them off the bill. SHe never offered to take my order for dinner for my guest or myself. She got us a check and we left. Crappy service. Cool place.

Restaurant was dark, dingy, and kind of dirty (odor from trash stored near restrooms also wafted out into the dining area). Service was terrible. In addition to being slow and inattentive, our waiter actually threw our order away after he finally took it and came back after ANOTHER 15 minutes to write it down again on another piece of scrap paper. We didn't get our appetizers (cups of chili, which were pretty good) until we were there at least 45 minutes. Very limited options for people with dietary needs. Salad dressing was good, but romaine lettuce had a lot of brown and soggy leaves. Burger and turkey sandwich were okay. Several TVs showing sports.

Becky was the best waitress!!! Hands down she made our experience. The food was good, a little salty. Beer cheese was yummy, overall a very good meal. Burgers were cooked well. The bourbon flights were a good option, a few different options!

Great atmosphere! A below street level bar/restaurant with exposed brick interior. The place is dimly lit, adding to its character. The bartender suggested a Manhattan cocktail and it was delicious! We had a French dip which was equally as good! Recommend this place highly!

A nice place with good food. The Kentucky Hot Brown is good but needs more mornay sauce. It is a little dry. Otherwise it’s good. The burgers are a better choice and I had the chicken and waffle sandwich. That was good as well. I would go and check it out. The staff is fun and very accommodating. So go for the service and the experience.

Went to celebrate 2 birthdays with group of 13. We were placed in a room off the bar. It was crowded and hot because the size of room and number of people. Waitress would disappear for long amounts of time including when we paid our checks. I’ve always had a great experience at Troll Pub but I’ll never book with a large group again. Best thing that we ate were the beer cheese with pretzels! Other food was cold when it finally reached us!

Our server was excellent. Was disappointed as thought troll theme would continue with inside decor . Very plain . Our food was good but my husband’s Rueben looked like it was made on finger sandwich bread . Food presentation and portion sizes need improvement. Looked way better on website / Riding the fence as to whether to say I’d recommend it .

Took about 30 min to get our drinks. We asked 2 other waiters where our drinks were, & they said they would check. No one came back. When we asked our waiter were they were, he had not noticed we didn’t have them. He said he forgot to put the order in. When we finally got our food, half the order was not as advertised. We ordered two Fleur De Lis. These came with no onions or cheese. The meat was poor quality. We were eating here as a celebration for my daughter’s medical school white coat ceremony. This was a total disappointment, especially as it cost almost $100.

Enjoyed our lunch at Troll Pub on a day we were in Louisville for the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Just a nice old pub inside, a little quirky but loved the Troll. The staff was friendly. The best thing I can say is the food was better than we even expected! Loved the Pot Roast Poutine and Beer Cheese Burger. Also a good Hot Brown and Salad. Would return next time I'm in Louisville.

This is a must stop for anyone visiting downtown Louisville. It's magical walking down the stairs and going "underground". The pub was clean, and we were greeted immediately. Setting up a reservation ahead of time for us was a good idea as it was just getting to the dinner crowd and it does fill up fast on a Saturday. They have multiple screens showing sports. Our server was so personable, friendly, and bantered back and forth with us. She was great! Definitely a spot we will add to our list of places to go while downtown.

We reserved online ahead of time for a group of 9 and were seated quickly. A large convention is in town, and the place was packed, but the staff were all incredibly kind and positive. Food all arrived in a reasonable amount of time, and it was all hot and delicious. 100% would recommend to any groups looking for a great, affordable place with a lot of atmosphere and heart.

Made reservation and seated immediately. Server took order. We asked for 1 beer, 1 mixed drink, 6piece wings and a hot brown. Server must not had heard hot brown requests. We received wings before we ever got drinks. Then wrong beer was delivered. Then server asked if we we're ready to order food. :( We said forget the beer and we'll take the check and left. I have been here 4 times. The first 2 were pre-pandemic and it was awesome. The last two have been bad experiences. Sad to see.

The bartenders were fantastic! We sat at the bar (at our request) and they were on it! They were personable, attentive, and cool guys! Drinks came out great, food came out hot and so good! We live close to the Dayton location, and love it, so we had to come check out Louisville! Didn’t disappoint!
