The Trattoria Ratings and Reviews
Not our best meal here. Food was OK, service was kind of weird. When we told the waitress that we wanted tap water instead of bottled water, she lost interest in us. This was weird, because its such a small restaurant. We normally go here for special occasions, but I think its time to find a new place to go.
i don't like writing reviews but i have to say this place is a gem. its very very small and you do not go there for incredible decor. you go there for incredible food and an amazing menu. i have loved this place for 4 years now and as hard as it to get a reservation because of its size, i would never want them to get larger.
Wonderful find . Read reviews looked at menu . Prix fix is the way to go . Considering that how much one plate goes for at other places with same level of food. Byo is great . Should place on your list of places . Decor very low key but friendly. Feel as if your eating in the dining room next to the kitchen at home . All good.
It was our first time there even though we live in st James. The food was delicious,we had the best salad, pappardelle Bolognese and the short ribs with polenta! We finished off with expresso, capuchino and Nutella pound cake with gelato and caramel sauce! Everything was super fresh and the service was on point! Thanks Brian! We will be be back soon!
We've been here many times over the years and the food is always excellent. It is very small and informal with less than ten tables. Not inexpensive but free BYOB keeps prices reasonable for some of the best Italian food on LI. House made ricotta was delicious. Special of halibut with fresh sweet corn, mushrooms and truffles was outstanding. Best espresso anywhere, but carbonara was watery. Cash only.
The Trattoria is a great little restaurant. Maybe there are eight tables and that makes it difficult to get a reservation. Having been there over the years it seemed to me to desperately need a paint job. The noise level also a problem for us. Very, very noisey. The menu has a many standard dishes which have been on the menu forever and several seasonal dishes. We found everything to be delicious and hot. The portions also are very large. They have a price fixed dinner which is very nice. The service was very casual and fine. You can also bring your own bottle of wine. All in all a nice casual evening.
Tough to get reservations due to demand and limited seating. Tight fit but a nice cozy atmosphere. Food very good. Staff excellent. My only complaint is we had an early seating at 5:45 on a Friday and we felt rushed. There was no break between courses and it seemed like they went to turn the table given the limited seating and time. I will be going back and eating later. It's being your own wine and cash only.
There were six of us on a recent Saturday evening celebrating a birthday. We started with several orders of baked clams, meatballs over polenta, and the Burrata with grilled artichokes. We also had the sun-dried tomato tapenade, fresh ricotta, and marinated olives. We enjoyed everything. The entrees were varied. Lasagna Bolognese (sauce is delicious), black pasta with calamari and spicy tomato (my favorite), roast pork loin with accompaniments, and chicken Milanese. No one was disappointed. We enjoyed everything down to the last drop. It's BYOB here and that's ok. We had various coffees and also shared some desserts. Service is not rushed, professional and attentive. Thanks Brian for a great evening.
