The reason for the recommendation is due to the fact it is the only restaurant in the Hilton.
We went on the 31st for New Years dinner, the service was terrible and also the food was not good at high prices, when commented this to manager was rude and all he said was sorry. There are many options near so avoid special ocassions here not worth the value!
If you seat in the Bar area ask for Bin, Great personal waiter
Also our grill Host and Server up front was Michael (spelled different ).Great young guy that goes out of his way to please you too.
Lousy service. No water, never saw the server after the order until the check arrived. Then she came with the check -- never asked if I wanted another drink or dessert. It took almost 5 minutes to be seated even though the restaurant was rather empty.
The crab cakes were good--almost all crab.
Very quiet at lunch time on a Monday, nice outdoor dining space, waiter was excellent and when he heard we were celebrating a retirement, he brought us an extra dessert. Food is very good but it's expensive for lunch; about $30 per person.

Poor inattentive service, bland menu and stale environment for resort location. Worth a Lyft ride elsewhere for better quality experience.
Seared at a tables where we could see the Pacific, we enjoyed a special prix fix menu with choices for first course ( leek potato soup or burata tomato salad) and entree (halibut or short ribs) and tiramisu for dessert. Beautifully served, exquisite presentations and every bite delicious. A very memorable meal.
We were staying at the Torrey Pines Hilton and decided we didn't want to go far for dinner, so we went to this restaurant in the hotel. What a great choice, wine selection is small but great wines to choose from, steak and salads are amazing and the service was awesome. Thank you Hilton and everyone at this resort for making this one of our most remembered anniversaries. Great team
Went for Easter buffet. Very overpriced. It was not in restaurant but on lawn between buildings with little view. Food was marginal. Many open tables with few people. Now I
Know why!
Menu offered various options and the dishes were fresh/tasty. The service was poor and the restaurant loud...
Relaxing. Enjoyed good food and service. Drove over 20 miles but will return again!
Mixed experience.
The restaurant is basically in a foyer at the bottom of some stairs, so not exactly cosy. Also very high ceilings which increases the noise level.
There is a nice outside seating area above the pool but they would not let us sit there.
They told us it was reserved for some event that was going to be set up.
When we were finished there was still no evidence that this was true, there was no event being set up.
The waiter was nice, but it seemed he was in on the set-up story.
Food is overpriced for the food that is put out. While my cast iron Salmon was amazing my husbands Rib eye Steak was bland and tasteless. The restaurant wasn't busy at all but our waiter seem to be preoccupied with something else every time we tried we tried to get his attention.
Extremely poor food. I had risotto that was undercooked and tasted like rice with the cream sous. My husband had gnocchi that was overcooked.
Extremely disappointing dining experience for 4 star resort. I would never dine there again.
Overpriced. Ordinary food.
Staying at the hotel and tried the restaurant for dinner. Noisy crowd at the bar and dreadful canned music made us regret our choice. Food was good but more expensive than it should have been. Service was adequate but not friendly.
I must say I was disappointed. A few years ago I was in search for a Mothers Day brunch and Torreyana Grill did not disappoint. We hadnt done other brunches but I assumed they would have an Easter brunch. After I booked it I found out it was a set menu and by then I couldnt get reservations elsewhere. My husbands pork dish was good. My prime rib tasted as if it was cold then reheated. The appetizers were fairly good (crab cocktail). Our server (great by the way) said in his many years he hadnt seen them change from a buffet brunch to a set menu. There was hardly anyone in the restaurant. I hope they go back to a brunch.
Food was great. A bit pricey, but tasteful. Service was a bit slow, despite the low volume of customers on a wednesday evening. Overall, good place
The Torreyana Grill is a poor neighborhood to the Grill at Torrey Pines. It lacks comfort, ambiance and a menu that is uninspired and worse, overpriced. Not recommended for lunch at all.
Food wasn't great, pretty bland. Service was super slow. Can't beat the beautiful ambiance though!
We were pleasantly surprised by the wonderfully delicious dinner. We loved the decadent lobster macaroni and cheese, the filet mignon was cooked perfectly medium rare and topped with a fantastic brown sauce, and my sea bass was mild, yet tasty. But then we were blown away by an absolutely perfect cosmopolitan martini! Mastro's has some stiff competition. Service was outstanding all evening long.
Great view of the ocean from the hotel.
I'm not sure how you can have a limited menu for lunch and then still not make edible food. I ordered a simple chicken sandwich. It was tasteless and mostly bread. Was wondering where the chicken was. There was a red pepper aioli. The only thing that was interesting was the bright orange color, but there was no flavor. Service was abysmal. My order was taken, and food delivered, but that was about it. Even hard to get the bill. Oy.
The stuffed turkey sandwich was very good. The mushrooms made the turkey burger juicy and it was not too big nor too small. I enjoyed the side of fruit. The Americano coffee was delicious.
Your server TJ was on the spot and quite accommodating. We had been dealing with the traffic at the cove and needed a refreshing drink so we asked for root beer floats. But since you don't have root beer he made us Coke floats! Great and hit the spot.
The chicken sandwich was delicious. The kids loved the kid's meals.
Torreyana Grille was nice, the service was good, the food fair, but it was not worth the high price. La Jolla has a lot of high priced restaurants where the food is great, the view is exceptional, and the service is over the top for the price. Unfortunately Torreyana Grille does not one of them.
Our family took our mother this past Sunday for Mother's day brunch. Having never been there I was very impressed by how nice the restaurant is and how beautiful the view of the golf course and the Pacific Ocean behind it is.
Having 11:00am reservations and it being Mother's Day, I thought the place would be a whole lot busier than it was...which frankly, I enjoyed not being crowded. The food was great without being anything mind blowing. Except for the desserts, being a sugar fiend I love my desserts and these were divine. The service from the wait staff was excellent, what I'd expect from any restaurant inside a Hilton Hotel, especially in La Jolla.
All that being said, we probably could have eaten just as good food at another local for about $250.00 instead of the almost $600.00 for 7 of us that went. We definitely paid for the location and the view.
Very expensive entrees , this is a place to eat when you are stuck in the hotel, with no other alternative. While it looks great on the paper, you end up with a cold plate with no flavor. Better stay with the appetizers!
I have eaten here are two different occasions. The brunch here is pretty decent with a variety of selections. if you want to eat before you leave and save some time i would recommend that. i have also eaten dinner here and i have to say the food isn't bad, but it isn't all that great either. The shrimp and crab nachos seemed a bit soggy and the New York Steak was okay. For the price i would say drive down and find something else.
They advertised that they will have a NYE celebration and music until 11 p.m. so we made reservations since we were staying at the hotel. Unfortunately, the music stopped at 10:15p.m. and it was pretty dead. Food was overpriced and very generic. Wow.....what a disappointment.
This is my 2nd times for Dinner for the week of December 7th.
It was very good for food and waiter.
The food was delicious and price was reasonable. The Restaurant was very close to my room, which I stay. I will come back again Tonight!
We went to the Torreyana Grille for Thanksgiving, and it was all we could have hoped for. The setting was lovely, the food was delicious, and the service was excellent. Notable: The roast beef was the best I've ever had, and the swordfish was perfect. We also especially enjoyed the dessert bar. So many selections in portions small enough to try several without guilt. We're so happy we discovered this feast on this special day.
Went to Torreyana to celebrate wife's 50th. Though the menu was small there were a variety of choices and the food was amazing. We had 2 different steaks and both were prepared perfectly. The sides were delicious as wel.. They had a nice wine list and everything was very reasonably priced. Would recommend to friends.m
I had been there but my friend hadnt and she was so happy. The service and food (lunch) was exceptional. I will definitely go back again!
Convenient because it's part of the hotel. The complimentary bread was the best thing we ate. Soup was cold. Steak was tough. Vegetarian meal (forgot what it was) was good enough. Great service though. Brunch was a different story however. Excellent service and good food choices.
The brunch had a very good number of selections. Very flavorful beef selections. Plenty of sea food selections, including crab claws and peel-and-eat shrimp. Bottomless champagne, mimosas and juices. Loved the omelettes and eggs benedict. Very plentiful spread (though a bit pricey), with excellent desserts. Excellent views to the ocean. And...the service topped all (thank you, Fernando!).
Restaurant has nice views. They seated us at the window while there was a party on the deck in front of us so kind of questioned that and moved. Good service, pretty good food, wine much overpriced.
