Our tradition is to have brunch a The Ritz on our final day in Maui each year. This year the value didn’t see to be there. The waffles were great, as were the eggs. But there weren’t enough choices for our gluten free companion. It was still nice but perhaps not worth $40
While the location is beautiful and the breakfast offerings were good, I expected more of a $40 brunch buffet. For example, their "Japanese Station" consisted of miso soup rather than the sushi you usually see at a high-end buffet. Everything I ate was tasty, but it was really just a nice breakfast.
New Year evening.
We went for the New Years Eve buffet. Expected WAY better from the Ritz. The prime rib carving station doled out meager portions very slowly - almost like they wanted it to be too much trouble to eat any. The prepared dishes were like casseroles at a pot luck at the end of the day-mushy and messy and not really edible. The seafood was prepared only in a ‘lobster bisque’ broth that I think was a warm pot of milk they just showed a picture of lobster to. The cheese they chose for the buffet made the entire serving area smell like the dairy it came from. NOT appetizing. Very disappointing. We didn’t mind paying the $200 dollars a plate (much) but, honestly, would have had better food at a strip mall.
New Years Eve Dinner a Disappointment
We expected an elegant evening for the $135 per head fee.
There were no table linens or decorations at our table and the lighting was ala school cafeteria . The only alcohol included was a mediocre glass pf proseco on arrival.
And while the selection of food on the buffet was impressive , the lines for key entrees ( steak ) was long .
All in all not worth the money .
Excellent for Breakfast. YES, we would go back. LONGER VERSION: Service from Kevin - a lifetime local - was outstanding - enough attention and advice to mix in with a nice brunch. We had Sunday brunch which we were surprised ended around 11 am, we thought at least noon would be normal but they know their business plan. Sunday buffet was a bit pricey (near $100 for 2 with tip), BUT it was excellent - all you could ever ask for. They did not have Portuguese Sausage on the buffet, but Kevin brought a small side from the back - excellent attention you would expect from the Ritz. The macadamia nut pancakes and the crispy bacon were the best we have had in years. Nice job.
We ordered the brunch buffet, the assortment of food is outstanding ,all food was well prepared and delicious,Patty our server was very efficient & courteous. We will return again.
Best breakfast buffet. Amazing pancakes, waffles and omlettes. Fresh made pastries.
It was average or above average, but I expected based on reviews a lot more.
The Ritz is as high end as you can get on the island. The prices reflect it but you won’t get better food options either anywhere else. We went for breakfast and they had eggs Benedict as part of their breakfast buffet. They had salmon, omelets, bloody Mary’s to self pour. If you want to make a good impression this is the best way to do it. But for 4 ppl pur bill was $200 after tip and tax
Would not go return or recommend to friends or family unless they brought us back with efforts to change our opinion about visiting here. I flew to Maui on a business trip, my business partner and I choose meeting places on inspiration and feeling, since we both have not been to the Ritz in Kapalua, we both were excited with high hopes. As we arrived we asked an enterprise employee where the terrace restaurant was. We headed down to the hostess and was seated. We sat down and looked around and the views outdoor and the decor in the dinning area. We noticed there were holes on the ceiling in different areas patched up poorly with a board. There were also brown and green blackish marks as if there were water damage and the establishment couldn't afford to properly repair these faults. Tables had no coasters so I continuously had to keep wiping the condensation and table for small water puddles not exajurating so my business laptop wouldn't get water in it. Being an athlete and owner of a fitness business, I went to the omelette station for healthier options and a protein powered breakfast. Sausage, ham and another meet were available, but no lean protein like chicken breast or turkey so I asked the chef if there was a possibility to order some. I ended up asking 3 different people in prefer to make it happen and when it finally arrived 15 minutes later I was done eating my omelette. Paid around $60/each for breakfast when we would have been happier eating at a local Zippys which offer chicken & mushroom egg white omlettes and a restaurant with no poorly done coverups on the ceiling. Bathrooms were disgusting as well, toilet paper left over in toilet of one stall and residue marks in the other. Went to valet as they seemed busy, felt bad for the staff, so we ended up getting our own vehicle still parked around the bend. Want to go somewhere worth your $ and time, try four seasons Hualalai on Big Island!!!
Made reservation for 6:00 and arrived to learn they didn't open until 6:30. Not very graciously handled by waitstaff. Came back and found selection surprisingly middle of the road - Fruit Loops, white flour breads and highly sweetened selections. Omelette bar had limited local, fresh veggie options (no avocado). Food was on par with any low end hotel chain. Disappointed.
This was for Sunday brunch and Monday breakfast during an R-C weekend stay. One of the best breakfast/brunch buffets ever, compared to 5 star hotels in Europe, mainland US, Hawaii. Great quality and variety. Cucumber juice, asparagus crab gratin, excellent salmon, miso soup and condiments, fresh fruits, Virgin Mary buffet, Pineapple puff pastry, the best quiches, macadamia nut pancakes and Nutella/banana stuffed pancakes (stayed fresh not dried out on the buffet), fluffy scrambled eggs, great variety of cheeses (Port Salut, Brie, Bel Paese), fish of the day. Fruit danish, coffee muffin, friendly chef making omelets (16 yr Kapalua veteran).Would have appreciated kama'aina discount, as The Banyan Tree and local restaurants do.
Excellent variety of food to choose from & all well prepared. We chose the buffet for breakfast and enjoyed our meal. The service was excellent.
Fantastic breakfast buffet with plentiful selections
Typical breakfast at a hotel, nothing special. Thought it was more like a traditional brunch at a nice hotel. Service was slow, had to ask numerous times for drinks. Hotel has great gluten free options, had the pancakes. They were good.
I understand it's the Ritz Carlton, but a $32 omelette...
We waited at our table for about 20 minutes without being seen. We had to wave someone down to get our table set up and get menus. We had a 2 and 4 year old dining with us so they got bored (and hungry) very quickly. The food was good once we finally received it.
We've been here for brunch several times and it's always a treat. The food is delicious and there is an incredible variety to choose from. We've tried nearly everything and would recommend it all. They have a great pastry program, not just for a hotel but for any really great bakery. I love that they offer Japanese breakfast in addition to the more traditional American brunch buffet options. The fish is outstanding. Great service and a beautiful room to relax in on a Sunday morning, or any morning. The waffles are amazing!!!
My family and I were here for the breakfast buffet on a Tuesday morning. Free valet parking for guests who aren't staying at the Ritz. Very attentive service without being obtrusive. We requested a table right by the large windows that open out onto the grounds of the resort, but the view was a bit limited. I imagine it would be stunning if all the windows were pulled open. Generally excellent quality of food. No carving station. The waffles station was my favourite - some of the best I've ever had! You can ask for coconut syrup from the servers if you prefer that over maple syrup. The coffee was very good - 100% Maui grown. There is an à la carte option for those who don't want to gorge themselves, but what would be the fun in that? Will come back for this breakfast buffet the next time I'm in Maui.
Elaborate, delicious Easter Brunch
Kid friendly, beautiful ambience
We opted for the Brunch Buffet and were not disappointed, the variety offered and the quality of the food was simply outstanding. I would definitely recommend The Terrace for brunch. Joseph, our server was very polite and efficient.
Excellent and personal service. You only have to ask to get anything that you want. The buffet was excellent with fresh baked breads, homemade salsa, fresh-squeezed juice, and made to order omelets.
The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua staff at The Terrace ensured we had an amazing experience. We were treated like VIPs by Laura. She even brought complimentary mimosas made with pineapple champagne for my husband's birthday, which were delicious. The window seat facing the ocean was picturesque and a perfect setting for an amazing breakfast. We both got the Kapalua Breakfast, which gives you access to the full breakfast buffet, omelette station and fresh juice. It also includes coffee! I would definitely go back! It was truly wonderful.
The Ritz buffet is our favorite brunch spot on the island. They're phenomenal with the kids as well. Love the miso bar and green drinks.
Expensive but food was nothing special at all. Disappointed.
It was nothing like the description. Very expensive version of IHOP. Was so disappointed that we payed that much for something like that.
Always love coming here. The omelet egg station was top notch. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Pastries are fresh as well as everything else. Worth every penny.
We have been to The Terrace for Christmas dinner in the past and have found it to be wonderful. This year, though, was very disappointing. We were seated at a folding table with folding chairs crammed in to a corner, hardly able to make our way back and forth to the buffet without knocking into other people. That was despite making a reservation more than a month in advance. They were clearly trying to squeeze in every last person and willing to sacrifice the Ritz Carlton level of service and ambiance to do so. The food was absolutely terrific as always, but unable to overcome the otherwise poor experience.
went here on Christmas day staff could not cope service was terrible waiter just gave us the bill
did not ask us if we would like anything else .
We dined here 5 days earlier and the service and waitress was much better could not do enough for us.
very disappointed wished we went to the plantation club instead.
Christmas Day brunch
The Christmas buffet was lovely. The food and service were wonderful. Lots of fun treats for the kids and the best meal we had in 5 days.
Great brunch in maui even for the price. You will eat a lot & don't forget the tasty omelets.
Kevin took excellent care of us and shared stories and island language to make the experience. Perfect meal, service and surroundings to make a 50TH Birthday and vacation extra special. Would highly recommend the breakfast buffet as there was something special for everyone.
I read the mixed yelp review but decided to give them a try for the breakfast buffet on the last day at the resort. Big mistake!!! The food was mediocre to average at best. Omelet made to order dry and overcooked. The bloody mary station was just a jar of tomato mixture and if you want alcohol its $5 extra. The biggest or i should say "buggist" turnoff was the cheese and coldcut section covered in flies! Disgusting. And to further worsen this experience, the restaurant was empty but they placed a table of screaming kids next to my table. Save your money and have a good breakfast at the nearby Honolua store.
A bit pricey, but pretty much empty and the food was good. My family enjoyed it, so I was happy. Great waiters and a beautiful view.
If you like quantity, this is the place. Quality is not there for the price. We had breakfast here twice during our stay, the first time to try it out the last time because there were no other options before heading the airport. I would prefer to spend the money at The Banyan tree on the property or even the pool side bar. Recommend a walk to the grocery store right at the edge of the property of the breakfast essentials.
Unique foods from around the world.
