As always, food and service were outstanding - and the perfect place for a business lunch!
Great food and atmosphere to talk to a coworker. Total enjoyment.
The William Penn is a great tradition in every way, my lunch was delicious, service was terrific! It was so nice to reconnect with Albert after many years!
As usual, the service, food and ambiance were excellent - perfect place for a business lunch!
Food and service was very good
Only problem it was valentines day.
Was unable to order off menu.
Had 4 or 5 dinner choices. Good ,but not worth 69.00 each. Wine choices were priced too high..
Overall it was an ok dinner for our Valentine's Day celebration. This was mainly due to the ambience. Overall service was average, food was descent but definitely NOT worth the price tag of $69 per person and dessert was absolutely terrible. Bringing a single wilted rose at the end of dinner was pretty dismal too. Next time we'll just go back to Monterey Bay or the Lamont and get phenomenally better food for even a little less.
We went to the Terrace Room for Valentine’s Day dinner. We booked at the last minute through open table, and there were very few places left that had the time slot that we preferred to go. We’ve been to the Terrace Room before and enjoyed our experience. To start things off we did not know it was a preset menu which consisted of a three-course meal with a starting palate cleanser, and slightly overpriced. At first we were disappointed but decided that the items on the menu would be acceptable noting that we had had two of the items on the menu before. On this particular Occasion, we were both pleased and disappointed. As far as being pleased we were happy with our service our table the palate cleanser, and our first two courses. Our first course after the palate cleanser was lobster bisque which was executed properly, The consistency was perfect and it was silky smooth, Although it was a little on the salty side it was still a very good dish. For the next course I had the filet mignon and my wife had the Seabass. Both meals were fantastic we couldn’t of been happier with how they turned out both the Seabass and the fillet we’re like butter they melted in your mouth and the flavor was on point. The disappointment came with the desert. Now I understand that not every restaurant has great desserts and not every resteraunt is a pastry shop. But if you’re going to serve a dessert it should at least reflect the dinner that you serve. I got the Panna Cotta and my wife got the Pomegranate tart. My wife enjoyed her pomegranate tart, although it was just average. I on the other hand did not like the Panna Cotta at all it was not prepared properly and did not have good flavor, as a matter fact it soured my stomach and pretty much ruined my meal. Aside from the desert we had an enjoyable evening and an enjoyable meal. Not every meal coming out of the kitchen can be perfect every time! We still recommend that you try out the Terrace room for a classic upscale meal.
It wasn't terrible... But it wasn't worth it... If I spend $200 on dinner for two people and there is a only one drink on the tab, and we didn't have appetizer, the food should be amazing.... Seemed cookie cutter and was just ok... Prob won't go back...
A great Valentines dinner. Beautiful classic hotel. Service was top notch. Food great particularly considering that the house was full for a holiday.
It's not bad, but it does not live up to fine dining. Pittsburgh has many great restaurants. The Terrace Room is tired, the food is modest and the service is overly home town.
The eggs Benedict is to die for. Thanks, Ernesto!
Great place for a business lunch. Can hear people talking around you but not what they are saying. So, they can't hear you. Food and service is superb.
Food and service were EXCELLENT as usual. Great place to have a business lunch meeting.
The Terrace Room at the William Penn Hotel is elegant. Whether it is Sunday brunch, weekday lunch or dinner, it is the perfect place. The quality of the food and excellent service are in sync with the ambiance of the Room. Ask for a table serviced by Harry or Marty.
My family of 5 attended the New Years Eve Gala at this beautiful, historical hotel which was to include a meal and music/dancing. We arrived at the 9:30 pm seating time and were turned away twice as the tables were still occupied by the diners from the earlier seating. At 10 pm we sat ourselves at a cleared table and waited another 10 minutes for a server to bring us a table setting. We were to be served an selection of 5 appetizers from “roaming” servers; we received one tiny beef and one small fried cheese appetizer. Our waiter told us we would need to go to the open bar to retrieve any alcohol; wine had been pre-poured and set up in rows as though we were attending an office holiday party. After ordering 3 courses from the menu, we received the salad course around 10:30 and the main course at 10:45. My daughter had ordered stuffed lobster which was both over-cooked and cold and had to be returned. By this time, we were anxious to leave and headed to our hotel before midnight. This was a VERY expensive evening, a pre-set ticket price for an extraordinarily poor service and dining experience.
Very disappointing New Year's Eve dinner experience. Service was very slow and spotty. Food was not well prepared and was very overpriced - $37 for a 9 oz glass of chardonnay. Room was too brightly lit and no table clothes. Despite limited menu and no table linens, service was slow - waited 20-minutes before getting drink order. Had to go to bar and get second round because server was nowhere to be found.
New Years Eve at The Terrace Room was fantastic!
New Years Eve. Dinner 6pm. Nice and festive atmosphere, live music playing in the hall of the Omni Hotel, decorations and all up to the expectations and worthy of the night. That is the reason why my wife and I decided to go there. Food, well as expected for the fixed menu 89$ per person, happy to see no buffet as read in some previous reviews for Christmas Day brunch and dinner.
Nice touch of starting us with a glass of Champagne(sparkling wine) not bad.
I didn’t like the lack of table cloth for such a place and event. Bread served along with butter was obviously frozen, quite ok when still warm but then showed it’s true colors (stale and lacking taste), I’m from Italy and must say bread is very very important to me.
The choice of courses was ok, not outstanding but all right. Shrimp cocktail not well presented/plated, French onion soup was nice. Main courses were ok too.The sommelier made a good impression, had nice presence and seemed to know his stuff, can’t say the same for our waiter unfortunately who seemed nice, but unprepared and frazzled. When on the very beginning of the dinner we asked for sparkling water, the waiter removed the just poured still water glasses and brought over San Pellegrino bottle with two wet glasses that he proceeded to “shake dry” in front of us before pouring the sparkling water into them.
Being here unfortunately I must say I have to get used to the underwhelming feeling of seeing people underdressed in such setting, perhaps a dress code to be imposed especially for special occasions.
Overall nice experience good start to what has been luckily a great night.
Hostess wanted to seat 4 people at a huge table for 8. Buffet was not replenished leaving completely empty serving platters. Had to ask for utensils that were missing. Service was below average esp for the high cost. I have no issue paying for a high end hotel buffet, but this was substandard at best. The William Penn Hotel is fabulous, their touted Sunday brunch is not
Our table was not ready when we arrived with a reservation. However, the wait was very brief. Selection of food was just average, nothing interesting or special. No made to order omelets were available due to a burner issue. I would not go out of my way to have brunch at this location again.
Would be only one star, but service was fine and nice setting. Filet was cooked wrong and prime rib was dry and tough.
I was very frustrated. We are looking for Christmas dinner. Their website said brunch until 5 PM they had a reservation after five which let us to believe it was a menu service. The couple next-door is thought the same thing. It was too much money for the food. And we were near the end so the quality was not good
Very disappointing. Food was left out too long, was cold and dried out. Salmon was very fishy. Even though we had late reservations (4:30), food should have been above above average for the price of the meals.
We went to the Terrace Room at 4:00 pm on Christmas Day. The food bars were not well cared for; the charcuterie table a bit messy, with sticky knives and leftover plates still amongst the food, but the cheeses and meats were tasty. The entree and sides selection was not ample, though most of the offerings were tasty. The sushi was very dry, but the shrimp were good. The turkey was very tender, but the salmon strudel was bland. The desserts were a little dry, though one was delicious: a thin pudding-type with raspberries. The hostesses and servers were very hospitable. Overall, the value was not exceptional.
This was the first buffet style Christmas meal held by the Omni William Penn Terrace Room and it did not meet our expectations. Some of the food was not cooked appropriately, some food was cold from sitting out too long, and overall not worth the money or our time to attend. Additionally, the open buffet which was located in the lobby of the hotel lent itself to being used by non-paying customers as there was no way to assure who paid and who did not. For the past many years my wife and I would attend both the Thanksgiving and Christmas meals when they had a set menu, but due to all of the above, my wife and I will not participate in another holiday buffet style meal at this hotel. I would not recommend this Terrace Room to a friend unless it returns to a set menu meal for the holidays.
Great place for celebrating Christmas. Buffet was lovely. But, we missed having the “sit down” experience .
The Christmas buffet was excellent with a wide variety of interesting and well-prepared food. The service was wonderful and all of the staff members were helpful and very upbeat. The setting is beautiful and a perfect place to celebrate the holiday. We will definitely return next year.
The most unbelievable food for a Christmas Eve Dinner. The appetizers were outstanding. The onion soup was outstanding. The entree, we all selected the Lobster Tail, Unbelievably moist. The chef out did himself. How you prepare lobster tails ahead of time and keep so moist is a tribute to a great chef!! The desserts, outstanding.
We are used to the lobby being spectacular looking for Christmas with plenty of seating for people who just want to come a little before dinner and sit there and enjoy the Christmas decorations. This year it looked like the lobby was getting ready for some sort of a craft show or convention with empty tables placed all around the lobby. The food was delicious and the choices were well thought out but the experience wasn’t exactly how we described it to our out of town guests.
We treated our family to a special Christmas brunch at the Terrace Room for the first time. We enjoyed the food, the beautiful Terrace room and our waiter was wonderful with our grandchildren. He spent time giving the history of the Omni William Penn to them and we all learned something! It was a grand morning.
A great place for brunch (especially over the holidays when the hotel is all decorated)!
Have always enjoyed our family tradition of having Christmas breakfast in the Terrace Room of the William Penn hotel.
Fabulous food, service and time was had by all. The meal was served in a timely fashion, not too noisy, and great drinks
Great food, service and the hotel looked great. Especially enjoyed jazz combo. Tops.
Great for brunch especially around the holiday period!
I thought the service was just average, it not below average.
Our table was ready when we arrived and service followed 10 minutes later. Our order was
presented exactly as we ordered and our waiter was right on spot.
We had a reservation but ended up having to wait about 30 minutes for the table to get up. We were a large party so this was understandable. We went for Sunday brunch and decided on the buffet, for the inconvenience they comped the two children's buffets which was very nice and completely unnecessary. Over all the food was very good but slow to come out if something ran out. The hotel was sold out the night before so I'm sure they were busier than usual. Overall it was very pleasant and we will be back.
The terrace room is just beautiful! The service was exceptional. The menu offered many options but 2 of us had the sea scallops, boursin risotto with mushrooms and a bit of caviar, nice touch. The other person had crab cakes worth perfectly prepared asparagus. The cuisine was perfect, and the seafood spectacular. We will definitely return.
It was my wife's birthday and we were looking for an alternative to The Grand Concourse for a nice, quite Sunday brunch to celebrate the birthday. The "other place" is good, but it has certainly slipped over the years in both food quality and service.
We decided to try The Terrace Room as I go there frequently for business lunches.
We were 200% impressed with The Terrace Room and will be back (soon)!!! The service was impeccable, to food was awesome and the atmosphere was second to none. Old world feel with grand murals, high ceilings, etc.
Finally, both my wife and daughter are gluten free and dairy free. Plenty of options and the waiter and chefs take GREAT precautions to make sure that gluten and dairy were not a part of their meals.
A TRULY awesome experience. Give it a try!!!!!
