The Terrace Room Ratings and Reviews
Wonderful experience at the Terrace Room. Beautiful, historic hotel with wonderful architecture. The Sunday Brunch menu was wonderful, with an optional buffet. My wife and daughter ordered off the menu, I went for the buffet. The food was excellent. Our server, John, was polite and attentive. Great experience. Will certainly go back.
I was taking a coworker out to lunch and she suggested The Terrace Room. I was a little surprised she wanted to go there with all the trendy places downtown, but I was pleasantly surprised. Of course, it's gorgeous but the food was equally as lovely. Our server was down-to-earth and took good care of us. I got the chicken soup and the brussel sprouts app for my entree and both were delicious. The chicken soup was pure comfort food and the brussels were addicting. My coworker got the chicken caesar salad which she enjoyed, and we shared a molten chocolate cake for dessert. It was very cocoa-y and not too sweet. I'd go back in a heartbeat!
Was not sure what to expect since I had never stopped by the hotel or the seen the restaurant before. I was a little concerned in that it was a smaller crowd for such a spacious location. The restaurant has a casual elegance about it with comfortable seating throughout. The menu offered a short but interesting list of options and the special for the evening complimented the rest of the menu and gained support from two at our table. The service was what set this place apart from other restaurants I have visited during my Pittsburgh business trips. Our server was both knowledgeable as well as entertaining with a great sense of humor that kept us bantering throughout the meal.... without taking away from a great dining experience. If there is a negative it would be the distance to the restrooms from the dining room... in no way a deal-killer...but you've got to plan ahead.
We had dinner on Sat night and brunch on Sun morn and both were wonderful. The service was awesome, the food was perfect including portion sizes that are sure to fill you up. I had prime rib that was just killer, as well as a crab & arugula omelet at brunch that was filled with fresh ingredients. Pricing is not as steep as you'd expect downtown, I'd say no more expensive than a nicer chain restaurant, so don't let that be a concern when deciding to visit. I'll come back even if I don't stay at the hotel.
This is the second time I've been there for Sunday brunch, and both times were great. The Terrace Room itself is beautiful. The prix fixe menu offers a nice selection. It comes with appetizer, entrée, dessert and cocktail. So well worth the price. And the service is wonderful.
Salmon was fabulous, as were the warm olives, the tomato bisque and the toasted almond dessert drink.
The dessert torte, although it looked wonderful, tasted like it had been pre-made and uncovered in the cooler and absorbed the other food flavors. The server graciously removed it.
Open table would not allow me to make a reservation for 1, so I made it for 2, but only attended alone. There were very few people in the room, so it wouldn't have been an issue of wasting a table on a single person.
This restaurant was great, and I would recommend it in particular for special occasions, business, or for the elderly. It was my grandmother's 92nd birthday and I was taking her to brunch after church. I wanted a place that was accessible without too much walking, had a high level of service and good food(she is a bit particular), and somewhere she could hear well! The terrace room provided notably patient, pleasant and high quality service, in a more quiet ambiance (though many patrons were eating), and the complimentary valet parking on Sundays made it very easy from an accessibility standpoint. The food was also quite good, mixing more traditional options with more modern fare. A great choice for this particular occasion.
Every time we visit Pittsburgh, we stay in William Penn hotel. The terrace room is not only convenient but also the food is delicious. I really like their gumbo soup so I tried twice and I think I will again. The taste of every dish we try is decent and not overwhelming. If this restaurant is in New York or in Tokyo where I am from, I am sure it would be fully booked every day.
The Terrace Room made our one year anniversary very special. The service and food were spectacular! Also, the manager (I think!?) brought out dessert and two glasses of champagne for our celebration, it was perfect way to end a great dinner! Thanks so much for the wonderful evening!
It's really great when the food and service in a historically significant, beautiful dining room make you glad you took the risk to make the reservation. Too often, notable rooms of this kind offer mediocre food and indifferent service. The Terrace Room provided delicious food, and excellent service in a space special enough to live up to the demands of a combination college graduation-birthday dinner for extended family. If you live in Pittsburgh and haven't been to the Terrace Room in a while, or ever, you should definitely make the trip downtown to enjoy this grand experience. Bonus: you will be able to hear your dinner companions' witty conversation!
I wasn't happy with the food selection. When I tried to see the menu for Mothers' Day, I wasn't able to find it online. However, pictures showed more breakfast/lunch items. The menu we were given was mostly dinner items. I felt that it was too overpriced for the selections.
We went for the Mothers' Day Brunch, which was AMAZING, but also wasn't really brunch. The closest dish to a brunch dish on the entire pre fixe menu was the quail and waffle, otherwise everything else was just really delicious lunch/dinner dishes. But I really can't complain because really, the menu was still amazing.
