Kitchen was very slow. Took 45 minutes from time we ordered to delivery of meal. And no one compensated us with a free drink or a pre-meal bite. Disappointed in the kitchen time management this time around.
I always enjoy taking friends/relatives here for lunch...GREAT view, quiet, and generally good food. Unfortunately the bill was incorrect; I was charged the dinner price for one entree instead of the lunch price, which I caught before paying. They apologized..a computer error. Love it when Rodney Bell is at the piano...playing and singing! This place is a gem and I particularly like how they make a birthday celebration special by serving a complimentary dessert with a lit candle!
This is a great spot for brunch. The bottomless mimosas are a great value. The servers are always happy and hard working and the view can't be beat!
overlooking Lake Merritt. very good live band for dancing, or not. Food is well prepared. A very friendly staff. Dramatically undersubscribed.
Visited for a Saturday Brunch. I would say the food was "nothing special" though certainly no problems with it. The Bloody Marys were potent and view on Lake Merritt was very nice. A nice place to stop if you're in the area.
The ambiance is wonderful and so were the quaint furnishings and setting. The food was delicious.
Our Sunday brunch was delicious, the view was gorgeous, and the jazz trio was icing on the cake. Our server, Natalie, made our dining experience more enjoyable. She was knowledgeable, cheerful and upbeat. Looking forward to going again.
Walking into the Terrace Room is like walking into the past. I was there many years ago and it still looks the same. The food was ok as was the service. There wasn't anything special about it that I could write about other than the fact that the views of Lake Merritt are beautiful.
Beautiful view from this restaurant. I had no idea that the Lake Merritt Hotel is an independent senior living building....imagine my surprise when I walked in there! It was, however, delicious, our waiter was terrific, the view from our window seat was outstanding, and it was fun to have lunch there.
My only 3 critiques were that our food took 45 minutes to come out, the restaurant was hot, and The Jack London Omelette was too salty.
Food is great here. We loved our chilaquiles is excellent and also the lax. Service is great.
The Terrace Room on Lake Merritt is a hidden gem. They have a great happy hour & many nights have "no cover" live music. Really good music! Fun bar food!
I have been wanting to come here for over a year. I finally got to here for my birthday & it was worth the wait! I appreciate when a location creates a need for people to elevate their attire. The Terrace Room is a well appointed room with spectacular views of Lake Merritt and DTOakland. This a treat I will be giving myself as often as possible!
What a delightful place. I will be back. I think that's the best eggs Benedict I've ever had.
The wait staff was friendly, charming, and accurate, but slow. I think they were overwhelmed. It took a long time to get our check.
Please get another coffee resource. Dreadful coffee. I do recommend the fresh orange juice.
The room and view are lovely. The service and food were marginal.
We had a wonderful time at The Terrace Room. The view is beautiful. The live music is romantic.
Old world charm with outstanding, friendly and most importantly, unpretentious service. Very unique and special spot.
We went for the Mother's Day Brunch and were generally pleased. We had gone last year and LOVED it so we choose to go again this year. Though we did enjoy ourselves (service and ambiance was GREAT!) we felt that it was lackluster in regards to the food options this year.
There were many more food choices last year including a carving station - which is a buffet brunch staple and our favorite part. (I made reservations last year and so I have a copy of the menu in my inbox to reference)
I don't know why the choice was made to offer less this year but the downsized menu was immediately noticed by my family. Also..the price per person was higher this year so the smaller menu is even more questionable.
Not sure we're going to go back next year but if we do I'll check the menu offered before doing so.
Extra: The waitress we had was amazing! The piano player was talented as well a funny.
Wonderful staff. Delicious food. Great atmosphere. The band was a little loud on this particular night, but that was a small price to pay for the overall experience!
The food here was mediocre, but that was far out weighed by the atmosphere of the place. The unlimited bloody mary's and mimosas option was fantastic. They were able to easily fit a large group for my brother's birthday.
Sunday brunch is delicious! The homemade carrot muffin basket is a table treat. Christo, our server was a delight, making sure our experience was top notch. We shall return.
My sister and I had dinner and enjoyed the performance of Roberta Donnay and her band. The food was absolutely delicious, so much so that I ordered a dinner to go for my husband. We had the ribeye and fish. The music was sheer talent, enjoyable and danceable. The view was breathtaking and definitely the icing on the experience. The wait staff were fantastic from the waiter to the bus person. Making my reservation was seamless and with great service. Everyone was friendly and I will definitely be back. Similar to what the Oakland Museum does, it would be good to have certain nights designated for different genres of music such as Roberta's band for swing as a regular and maybe 1-2 great latin bands - Fito Reynoso is wonderful. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
I treated my friends to brunch and we had an excellent time.
The food, bottomless mimosas, and wait staff were great. I look forward to going back.
I have always considered the Terrace Room to be the most stunning venue in Oakland. Situated right on Lake Merrit, the views are stunning. I like to pretend its my own personal penthouse.
I have worked many private parties here and always had a great time.
Unfortunately though, the food is mediocre at best and the service this particular night was ABHORRENT. We waited just shy of two hours for our meals, they all came out several minutes apart, so we couldn't eat together, and the show we came to see was over before we ate.
I'm truly hoping this is an isolated incident, but sadly my boyfriend will not give it a second chance. I will because I love to bring out of towners here, but maybe just appy's at the bar.
The view is delightful. The entertainment was outstanding. The service was very good. The menu has only 4 main courses to choose from. Two of us chose pasta premivera. It had no taste. The pasta was dry. Two people chose steak. The quality of meat was poor. We had Cesar Salad which was very good. The fruit crisp was small but good. In the past we have been here for brunch and it was excellant. My recommendation is to go to the Terrace Room for brunch and skip dinner.
We paid with a debit card. The next day when I checked my bank account we were overcharged by $4l. Not a way to build a good business base.
Service was perfect. Food was good; not the best meal I've ever had, but definitely would go back. Atmosphere is cool: old hotel, beautiful view. Really nice brunch!
We come here a few times a year for a family brunch or dinner. The setting - overlooking the lake - is great, and the "long bar" is fun, but both the food and service are only "so-so"
We have been walking around Lake Merritt for many years, always wondering what it might be like to have dinner at the classic Lake Merritt Hotel. We enjoyed our dinner and the group of guests dancing to their swing band. We need to get some dancing instruction for our return visit so we can be dance participants too. We had a fun evening.
The terrace Room is a hidden gem. Wonderful space, interesting food & attentive service.
Shaun's, our waitress was wonderful.
Great food, service and view!
Our waiter disappeared on us on a few occasions so that we had to flag down others in order to find out what happened to two of our party of four's drinks. We had a couple other servers jump in during the meal. Spotty service didn't match the venue, nor the quality of the food.
We ordered the shrimp appetizer to share with 4 people, and it only contained 3 shrimp. I didn't blame the restaurant - the shrimp were delicious by the way, but the disappearing waiter absolutely should have given us this information in advance so that we might have placed two orders!
Awkward. We loved the band fronted by the talented Alexa Weber Morales.
Fantasic dining experience. Food and service are great, and you can't beat the view. Then throw some great live music on top of that- it's a perfect night out.
The food is always good. Lunch was a bit pricey for corned beef and cabbage. Great view of the lake.
Of the 4 dinner entrees avai. last week Tuesday, they ran out of the chicken, at 6pm on a Tuesday night? The pasta primavera was delicious, vegetables perfectly prepared, but serving was very small, with almost none existent thin white noodles. Even after the delicious roasted carrot soup and bread, I left hungry. Am 5'3 and 130lbs. The entree took over 30 min to arrive, near 6:50pm, and the server wanted to take our dishes, still w/ food in it, at 7:25pm. She didn't offer coffee and quickly brought the check at 7:30pm when we refused dessert. She seemed in a hurry to rush us out, which was most strange. We had enjoyed Sunday brunch there two weeks ago and were charmed and enticed by a great waiter to return for dinner since the new chef came from the shuttered Bay Wolf restaurant. We were so looking forward to the lovely view and meal. We believe in supporting local businesses but they must meet us halfway also.
Perhaps we erred in remembering the lovely service at Bay Wolf, but the brunch waiter was so terrific. We understand that the lake merritt hotel is a nice retirement community and serve dinners to the residents, but good service does wonders to grow customers.
My wife and I having enjoyed going to the Terrace Room for several years. Our most recent visit was last Fri evening. Things were not as a nice. The young maitre'd, if you could call him that, made no eye contact and was pouty and totally unwelcoming. They had a jazz band that was so loud you couldn't have a conversation with someone sitting right next to you. Far from the gentle atmosphere we have been used to. The food was great but all portions were especially small. We left unsatiated. Disappointing evening but these things are fixable if they are willing. Hope so.
We very much enjoyed the brunch - food and service were excellent.
Had dinner with two friends last Friday night - there was a band playing and couples dancing -
not the place for a quiet meal but fun nevertheless. The food was very good - the new chef was formerly with Bay Wolf. Will be back to try brunch this spring.
The interiors could use some updating but overall a positive experience.
The Terrace Room on 2nd floor of Lake Merritt Hotel has a lovely vow of Lake Merritt. Good ambiance. Not noisey. Servers were very attentive and helpful. Cesar salad was good. The croutons were delicious. The hamburger seemed a little over cooked and dry. Fries were good.
Restaurant staff were accommodating given that we had a baby with us and preferred not to sit close to the band. They sat us farthest away from the band as we requested.
The Friday night swing band was great and it was wonderful watching everyone dance. We had 6:30 reservations and hoped to have a nice dinner conversation. The music was incredibly loud and even though we were seated as far away from the music as possible, it was still impossible to carry on a conversation. I'd recommend going somewhere else for dinner and nice conversation, and then heading over to The Terrace Room for a drink.
