The Terrace at Trump Ratings and Reviews
My recent visit to the terrace at trump was nothing short of fantastic. I had planned a surprise proposal to my girlfriend with the staff at the terrace and they made it a memorable experience. They were so helpful and accommodating for this special moment. Food and drink were just as nice as the view. I would recommend a visit to anyone who is considering stopping by for dinner or drinks.
Absolutely amazing experience. Visited for special occasion and loved everything about it from quality of drinks offered ...( pricey but you they are unique so worth to spent more especially if you visit for special occasions ) . Best terrace view in Chicago!!
Pounding dance music , at near 100 decibels, throughtout the entire July 4th fireworks at Navy Pier. How about no music or patriotic music, at least during the fireworks?? Food took forever to show up and was barely mediocre. They couldn't find my Open Table reservation even though I had the confirm on my iPhone, and then reported me as a No Show even though I was there and dined at the correct time! Great view for drinks, otherwise, fahgeddaboutit!
We had reservations for 7 pm on July 3rd. Really wanted a great view and that we got. The weather was Chilly and got worse as sun went down. Yes we knew it would be cool but never dreamed that there would not be heaters. We live in Florida 8 months of the year and the best places all have heaters available when the weather is cool. This is Chicago and the weather is not the best. I cant believe the Trump didn't have heaters, didn't bother to realize the weather was going to be chilly all weekend. We asked to move inside finally and got a table almost in the hallway. people in line for reservations were hanging over our table.
For the crazy cost of this place the food couldn't be less interesting. It's essentially upgraded bar food. The view is fantastic and pretty cool ambience once the sun sets. Of course assuming the weather is nice. There is NO shelter so if it rains the day is over.
I'd never go back again.
Advertised a $100 reservation for a table on the edge...reserved it and was given a table in the bar area with 4 speakers pointing at us...directly behind us. Had to keep asking them to turn those down all night. Service was average, food was average. The view was good. Won't go back.
Overpriced as expected, but what you wouldn't expect is the mediocre quality and ridiculously slow and inattentive service for what you are paying. The view is nice, but not as epic as the prices.
The crowd that hangs out at the Trump definitely has more money than taste and unfortunately is really into conspicuous consumption. It looked like an episode of 'The Jersey Shore - the mid-life crisis years' on steroids trying to pretend they are classy.
I don't know why I was expecting anything different but it's just a depressing place.
Now I can say I've been there and have no reason to ever go back.
We paid the $200 reservation fee for the two of us to avoid the wait, and it was worth it. We had several drinks and plenty of food and didn't spend as much as we did for the reservation fee. The food selection is minimal, but what they do have is fine. The drinks are interesting, especially the skull vodka presentation!
While the food was surprisingly decent (I would say 4 out of 5 stars), the best things about this restaurant were the views and the service. Jennifer was very attentive and did a great job, and let's face it, you can never go wrong with alfresco dining and views of downtown Chicago!
The view is wonderful if you catch a meal/drink here on a good day. The staff is sweet, however, I noticed they are not has customer service oriented as when I ate here a couple years back (all the staff were extremely friendly then - each greeted you with a smile and always asked if they could help regardless of what their role was). Though our waitress would greet us with a smile whenever she came by, it almost 30 minutes to receive our first round of drinks, and even longer for our food. When our food did actually arrive, one of the three dishes were wrong. We were quickly apologized to and promised the correct dish would be out in minutes. 20 or so minutes later I found myself asking about the food. 10 minutes after that my friend inquired about the food again. The correct dish finally arrived at our table about 35 minutes after the original orders came out.
It was a friend's birthday and I had to ruin the surprise of his dessert because I needed to tell the waitress we were nearing the time we had to leave and to please make sure to bring it out ASAP.
Though the food and beverages themselves were delicious, we ended up sitting around waiting for most of our time there. Not so bad when you're relaxing on a rooftop with a view, but the staff was not the best in making us feel like valued customers. After I dined here a couple years ago, I couldn't wait to come back. After this time, not so eager to ever to again.
The terrace at trump is by far the best view in the city. You're definitely paying for the view though. The menu could have been better. If the terrace was a pool deck, the menu would've been a better fit. There wasn't one steak on the menu so we didn't end up eating. Overall, it was a great experience except for the 15 people who took pictures right in front of our table because we had the best view.
This is cool to try once. The location and view is great, but one would expect a better selection and top shelf food in a venue like this. I spent $250 in food alone during my dining here and it was substandard to say the least. They make an attempt to dress up the food with gourmet names, but it is like a home economics cooking experiment gone bad. Also, if you try to eat clean and healthy, there is absolutely nothing on this menu that you can eat. It's all high fat, high calorie. My group did not finish the meals that I bought them because of the quality. This place should stick to being a venue bar and do away with the food service if that is the best quality it can come up with. Your waitstaff is a little hit or miss.
To begin, the hostess did not smile upon greeting anyone in front of us or anyone in our group. In fact, I shouldn't even call it a "greeting". We had a party of 7 with a reservation. When we were taken to the table, we were given one drink menu & one food menu...really? Once a waitress finally came around, we asked for more menus and she brought us 2 more drink menus...really? For such a prestigious location and the high prices, I have a certain expectation. Our waitress forgot a drink on our order, she had to ask who had which drink, and questioned an incorrect glass of wine brought to the table. She insisted on looking at the menu with my sister for proof of her mistake! I was embarrassed! Service was slow and inattentive.
The dining on the terrace provides for a fantastic view of the Chicago skyline, but the food is very average and the menu not that exciting. It's not that the food is below average, but maybe the best way to characterize it is that it doesn't live up to the view. The building is very elegant, the wait staff very beautiful, the view is incredible, and then the food doesn't deliver. The wine and drink menu was excellent.
To say that service is terrible is an understatement. The minute we sat down we waited 10 minutes for a server to come to our table. The first words out of her mouth were not hello or welcome - but rather "so are you ready to order." I have seen lemonade stands better run by a bunch of 8 year olds than the manner in which this establishment is run. It is almost laughable. As for the food, I have head better at dive bars.
With all of this said the view is what makes the experience. Unbeatable ambience. It is just too bad all of the scenic beauty is ruined by an untrained service staff and an equally incompetent and uncaring management.
If you are looking for outdoor 5 star dining skip this spot and head to Shangai Terrace at the Peninsula.
The preferred tables are awesome, as long as no one stands in your view. I would have been more tolerant of the $100, per person, fee if the tables around me had paid it also. Groups, next to us, came and went all night for free. Not fair. The menu is awful and 4 Spiders landed on us because we sat too close to the plants, said the bus boy. Take you chances and just drop in, do not make a reservation.
It's all about the view. Who would pay $200 just for the privilege to sit at a reserved table? Well I did. And I knew I was a chump when the party in front of me was told w/o a reservation that it was a 20 min wait for the same type of table. So I paid $200 to save 20 min. What a goof. The food? It was insulting bad. Ordered: "In the Front Door" at $100 the cheapest entree for 2. (I'm just good enough to get in the door. Trump isn't subtle but he knows how to get your money.) for that you get 6 jumbo shrimp and one tiny cup of cocktail sauce, enough for 3 shrimp (We asked for another cup which was then delivered to the table next to us). 6 oysters. Crab legs and lobster taste like rubber hose. No sides available. Eat first before coming.
Restaurant charges $100 pp just for reservation and everything is expensive. However Scene from the 16th floor open air restaurant is unbeatable. You can see lake, skyline and above all fireworks (if you happen to be there on Saturday in Summer around 10 PM). Food was pretty decent but $25 for a sandwich and a cocktail is high in my books. Service was nice. Over all I dont have any regret for spending quite a bit for this one time experience.
