The Terrace at the Charlotte Inn
Contrary to the Edgartown, MA Board of Health current (9/9/21) regulations regarding Covid that require masks for everyone, vaccinated or not, while indoors in public spaces, the wait staff at the Charlotte Inn were not wearing masks. At every other restaurant we ate at in Edgartown and all over Martha's Vineyard that week, the wait staff wore masks. So we were surprised when we arrived, and had we known in advance the wait staff would not be wearing masks, we would not have dined there, although we have enjoyed dining there in the past, since I have a compromised immune system. So patrons beware, the restaurant operator is more concerned about ambience than your health, or is just a (your choice of expletive}.
It was our anniversary and we were treated like royalty with complimentary champagne. The ambiance is magical, walking through a library in the inn to get to the restaurant.
Outstanding service, food and ambiance. We make it a point to go to The Terrace when we are on Martha’s Vineyard. I have dietary restrictions and the chef is very careful to make me a dinner that avoids my allergens and is absolutely delicious!
The setting is gorgeous and very romantic. Just the perfect restaurant!
The Terrace at The Charlotte Inn is beautiful and the food is excellent. The service is also first rate. However, I could not rate it 5 stars because of my concern for safety precautions during COVID. Every other establishment we visited on Martha's Vineyard required indoor masking and servers wore masks at restaurants. No employees wear masks here despite the fact that the restaurant had to close temporarily in August due to a COVID outbreak amongst its workers (see The Vineyard Gazette, August 26, 2021). We were really surprised to find that The Charlotte Inn and The Terrace don't exercise COVID precautions when there is a mandate from The Edgartown Department of Health. So, again, the food and service are great. You won't be disappointed there. It all depends on your comfort level. Had we known before, we would not have gone.
Chef Patrice consistently serves outstanding cuisine.
Superior to other local restaurants.
Without exception—THE finest dining on Martha’s Vineyard. The Terrace excels in every aspect of the dining experience. The service to absolutely top-notch with truly professional wait staff and front of the house personnel. The food is superb. I has a Lobster special and it was spectacular. The Escargot was excellent and my wife’s scallops were perfect. A nice selection of wines by the glass also: We chose the Chateau Neuf du Pape and the bar service was great to. My martini was as cold as I would have normally made it.
Some people will balk at the cost, but you get what you pay for an much more at the Terrace at The Charlotte in Edgartown
Excellent food and service, lovely outside table buffered by garden
One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Food was amazing and a very special wine list.
Beautiful spot with excellent food and services. The cuisine is traditional French so if that’s your thing, go there!
Went here for 10th wedding anniversary and it was such a treat. alex was our server as she was delightful! The diver sole and filet were perfectly prepared! Nice wine list. Would definitely recommend!
We were celebrating our anniversary. We were acknowledged with a champagne toast! Nice touch! Food was amazing! I had the Dover Sole - never had it before - it was out of this world delicious! Can’t say enough about the staff and service - everything was amazing! Will definitely be back!
This restaurant is the full package. Impeccable service, food is amazing and the ambiance is sophistication at it best.
Beautiful ambiance in quaint aristocratic setting. Food and service excellent.
Great food, impeccable service, lovely setting. We were very pleased with our meal
We are French and we are very sorry, but it is not the high French cuisine level... Very disappointed by the experience...
We have choosen the Chief’s tasting menu with seven courses :
- the amuse-bouche was supposed to be a celery veloute but finally with tomatoe, tasteless.
- Good Foie Gras Terrine but small piece
- Burgundy escargots supposed to be with parsley garlic sauce, but we are still looking for garlic, so it was very tasteless
- Correct cod with a vegetables Tian (Provencal gratin) but please, don’t use cream in Provence cuisine...
- Good beef duo with wine sauce 😋
- Awful Alps région dessert, the worst dessert ever in a Relais & Chateaux or Michelin restaurant... 😱
- We are still waiting the last part of the menu : Paris region coffee chocolate truffle 🧐
But the worst was the service. Our two servers were very kind but not skilled :
- They forgot one mocktail in 3 and one other mocktail was awful.
- They served tap water in glasses filled with water from bottle AquaPlanna 😳
- We asked for bread with burgundy escargots but they gave us just one bread for 3 people. 😳
- We asked for white burgundy wine, they gave red wine, and finally said they did not have burgundy white wine... and proposed us Chablis: Chablis IS burgundy white wine !!!!!..... 😂
- And finally, they did not give us the Paris Region coffee chocolate truffle 🧐
Perhaps the summer season has not already started, but our dinner was not a very good experience, not the level of a Relais & Chateaux restaurant, not the level of Michelin stars French Cuisine (as the servers said), not the level of the price we paid.
Finally very disappointed... 😔
It was a very special occasion for my wife and I. The Charlotte Inn was the place we stayed at 28 years ago when we got engaged. I made my reservation with specific instructions to have a bottle of Vueve Cliquot at the table for out arrival. I was disappointed not see it there. Our server brought it to the table after a few minutes. Looking at the bottle, I could tell it wasn’t chilled. He opened and poured. It was room temp at best.
I asked the server to ice it. It never really got Cold. The food was good but not up to my expectations. Being a chef in a fine dining restaurant, I expect more when I sit down to dine at such an establishment with a Michelin star chef. My overall feeling was that the servers were not properly trained and didn’t have someone overseeing them. Would I eat there again? Yes! But I probably won’t expect the high level of food and service that I had anticipated this time.
On our first trip to Martha's Vineyard, celebrating our wedding anniversary, we made a same day reservation at The Terrace. The restaurant is inside the Charlotte Inn, and through the gallery. The wait staff tag teamed and were simply lovely. They greeted us with champagne (in beautiful flutes). The menu was simple and everything sounded yummy. We opted for kale salad and escargot to start, beef short ribs and salmon, and finished with lemon mousse cake and chocolate cannolis. In addition to our meal choices, each course was opened with delicious surprises. The whole meal was simple delicioso! The whole experience was delightful.
Incomparable! Without doubt. A beautiful greenhouse setting, wonderful
service and delicious food, prepared and served in a quiet, yet sophisticated and
charming glass enclosed restaurant, overlooking the spring gardens at the lovely Charlotte Inn in Edgartown.
An experience to be enjoyed to its fullest capacity!
This place is magical.... felt like I traveled to the 18th century ....
Extremely disappointed with the food, which was tasteless and bland.
We were extremely surprised because we have had so many totally happy guests. These people were extremely rude, screamed at our manager who was trying to be nice by making sure their dinner was complimentary and offered them a return visit, and we must say they were two of the most miserable guests we have had in 50 years.
The food was delicious and the service was attentive and knowledgeable. Pumpkin soup was a surprise amuse bouche. The Short rib was rich, favorful and hearty. The Halibut with herb sauce was delicious. The portions are good sized. The Terrace was warm with plants and soft lighting. We were in on a quiet Thursday on the Vineyard in early March.
As always, superb!
Wonderful overall. Terrific service and delicious food. Will look forward to a return visit.
Just amazing. It was more of an experience than just a meal.
This is one of the greatest meals anyone will ever have! Absolute perfection in every detail!!
As always, exceptional.
This dining experience was similar to the Inn at Little Washington. Absolutely fabulous.
We enjoyed our meal immensely. We appreciated the social distancing and cozy fireplace setting. Our server was excellent, attentive and efficient. The food was delicious!
Amazing experience tonight to celebrate our honeymoon! Wow! The staff was amazing, the food was even better somehow. Jeremy, you’re the greatest, we can’t thank you enough. Never change guys, you kicked butt.
It was our anniversary and the staff treated us wonderfully. The food was very good - I had the lobster special and my husband had the cod. Both were delicious! The restaurant is housed in an old inn. I appreciate the history but it felt just a little damp inside. I felt like it could use some updating. Our waiter was amazing and we had a very good time overall!
Lovely birthday dinner in an idyllic, secluded garden setting. Our server Kristen was lovely, and even gave me a complimentary and festive chocolate mousse cake. We had a wonderful evening, with the best martinis we’ve ever had.
The hostesses and Dusan, our server, were excellent. The Old Masters paintings, silver, and garden made for the most wonderful experience
So lovely and elegant ! Very knowledgeable and attentive staff. My new favorite ! Veal chop special and cod entree well prepared. Large shrimp cocktail. Generous wine glass pour. Yummy popovers Go !!! You will not be disappointed.
Everything about The Terrace was perfection! From the minute we walked in, the staff was polished and polite, the ambience was lovely, and food was a 10+, and our waiter was the best!
Amazing food, great service. Well worth a visit.
We always have a wonderful meal that the Charlotte Inn! The service and the food is outstanding.
Despite open table accepted our reservation & sent the usual reminders, etc., when we arrived the door was locked. A man came to the door and told us that hey are closed until April. We have ben before & have enjoyed the food, ambiance, etc. Perhaps you should be in touch with them
One of the best dining experiences my wife and I ever had. This was our 4th time at The Terrace and the best.
