The Terrace at the Charlotte Inn
The Terrace is a special restaurant. The food is superb, service impeccable and ambience elegant. If you visit Martha’s Vineyard this is one restaurant you need to dine at. You will not be disappointed.
Overpriced. Food was good but could get it elsewhere for less. Dress code may stop tourists from dining here. Good thing we always bring a collared shirt but didn’t bring a tie which was not required.
I would highly recommend The Terrace for special occasions. This is clearly a unique, fine-dining restaurant that prides itself on providing the highest level of quality. All the negative reviews I had read were unsubstantiated based on my experience. Granted, the museum-style decor and quiet ambiance may not be for everyone, but for me it was very pleasant. Also, I dined last week during low-season, so the restaurant was not that busy, the service staff handled us without any issues at all.
Would highly recommend. Perfect for special occasions. Food, service and atmosphere were pretty close to perfection!
This was as wonderful evening. Everything about this restaurant is perfect. We were on a quick tour of New England which included Kennebunkport, Boston, the Hudson Valley, Newport and Martha's Vineyard. This was the best evening we had on the entire trip. The atmosphere was lovely, the food excellent and the service perfect. We had a lovely evening in an outstanding, fine dining restaurant. Do yourself a favor and go there.
This was an amazing evening. The service, ambience and food were great. I started with the best Caesar Salad I ever had. The Scallops entree was cooked to perfection and served with a perfectly cooked Risotto. The service all around was just wonderful. We were celebrating our anniversary and both ordered dessert. I had the bread pudding which was so good I ate all of it. The staff made sure to congratulate us on our anniversary many times. They gave us complimentary champagne and a beautiful dessert display. The Terrace is a gem. I highly recommend it.
It is so-so, excellent service but food left more to be desired. And I surprised that I indicated that it was my birthday and there was NO mention of it that evening not that personable. Spent lunch at a less expensive restaurant in Boston and they gave my a birthday dessert. I won't give those folks any of my time and money again.
We always return here on our yearly visit to MV. It never disappoints always wonderful. Expensive but you know that going in. Food and staff were great. See you next year.
Thank you Terrace at the Charlotte Inn for a wonderful evening of delicious food and outstanding service. Everything from the quiet alcove table to the wonderful and friendly service from Frederrico made for an elegant and enjoyable evening ! If you are on Martha's Vineyard for any reason and are looking for a memorable evening you can't do better than the Terrace !
This was our final meal in Martha's Vineyard and we certainly are glad we made it to this gem! The food was outstanding, presented beautifully, but what really stood out was the service. Top to bottom, it was outstanding! Our server and the rest of the wait staff were very attentive and we had pleasant conversation, but allowed us ample time to enjoy our delicious meal. Would definitely recommend a reservation.
My wife Kimberly and I enjoy our annual date night at the Charlotte. It is a special place as we enjoy the Island. Great food, outstanding service - Jeremy is fun, knowledgeable, and makes the evening special. Highly recommend for a special evening - bring your wallet, you won’t be disappointed.
Absolutely fabulous. food was incredible, service was perfect.
The Terrace is a special place for dinner out. It is expensive. We went to celebrate a special occasion so it was worth it.
Beautiful setting, excellent welcome and service from a well trained staff.
But the food was a bit disappointing.
Gorgeous setting with fantastic ambiance and fabulous food. A real treasure which after one visit we have put in our must go list. We’ll be back!
I was looking for a good restaurant to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday and a friend recommended The Terrace at Charlotte Inn. It was a beautiful evening so we requested the outdoor patio. I'm not sure if the waiter was aware we were seated but we sat there for a good 10 minutes with no water or menus. We also had to request butter 3 times before receiving it. Being a Relais & Chateaux property we expected better service. That being said, the food and atmosphere were great and made up for the service.
This is a must go to place. The outside Terrace dining area (there is also an inside dining room) reminded me of Charleston SC. Just a lovely dinner...great service...excellent food. Is it expensive? Yes. But worth it.
Shelley and staff were absolutely amazing.
Incredible experience ... class all the way.
Delightful and lovely. Absolutely delicious meal in an old-fashioned special occasion destination.
My birthday is always a treat as we head to Vineyard Haven each year and I made sure to make this the year we visit The Terrace. I would read about it and look at the photos and know my parents must have been there some time in the past. I love old books so didn't know if I would make it through the charming sitting areas to the terrace. The hostess was so warm and gracious. We had very nice attire with us for our stay on the Vineyard (besides our usual casual beach attire) but my boyfriend did not have a jacket. Jackets are preferred but not required. He did have dress shoes and very nice collared shirt. I did wear a somewhat formal dress and shoes although simple, I think that was fine. Be prepared to spend time as you will want to savor the decor and reading through and extensive fine wine and cocktail menu. The dinner menu is going to be just a few select choices. Prices will range from upper thirties to $125 or more. Bottled wines are available up to $1000 or more. My glass was a reasonable $17. It is a fine dining experience, you would be out of place to have electronic devices not put away ( nice break from that!). My meal was a delicious, well portioned but not too heavy, Bolognese which I enjoyed savoring every bite. I wish my BF had ordered the Kobe steak which was likely outstanding but he ordered the Filet and he said it was perfect. We would love to go back or stay at the Inn as it was not enough time to absorb the beautiful art, books and collection of decor including some really interesting lamps. I would like to try more on the menu as we don't usually eat a lot of beef but knew it would be fabulous. I would recommend the Terrace if you are accustomed to expensive dining experiences with expectations of social graces and class, or even if like us, a treat to go this one time (however, we know we'll have to go back). The wait staff worked swiftly and professionally and did not overwhelm us but there was a team working.
The ambience and service were superb as is the decor. Knowing we were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary, the staff graciously served us complimentary champagne. The evening was stellar!
Exceptional food and service in a lovely setting!
We felt extremely rushed through the entire experience. Wait staff hovered and removed items from table so fast, we were done in less than an hour! Overly pretentious. The atmosphere can hold up, but the food did not.
The Hotel and ambience are wonderful, I ordered salmon, it was ok, I have had much better.
Service was slow, it was very busy, seemed like they needed more servers.
Breakfast was not good, the coffee was undrinkable.
This was our first dining experience at the Terrace and one we had been looking forward to.
We came early for a relaxing cocktail in one of the many well appointed pre-dinner rooms. I was very surprised that the staff member taking drink requests was unfamiliar with a Vesper. I explained the "formula " and received a cocktail absent the vodka, just gin and lilet. The family restaurant Newes in downtown has it on the cocktail list!!Oh,well...no big deal but a restaurant of this reputation and expectations should be able to prepare a Vesper.
On to the dining room where we enjoyed an outstanding meal not withstanding being ushered to a small table next to a planting area.Perhaps locals and regulars qualify for a table with a touch of ambience. Our atmosphere was further enhanced by a table of 10 practically upon us.As an aside if you have a dress code enforce it.
The wait staff was outstanding and our lead person was Oscar who was pleasant and very knowledgeable...a real plus. Ancillary wait staff were pleasant and service was timely.
Appetizers of gnocchi and crab and lobster salad were very good.
Entrees of filet of beef and local scallops met our expectations as did dessert.
The wine list is extensive and overpriced as would be at any restaurant of this reputation, $145 for Merry Edwards.
Total bill including gratuity $400+
Maybe have a Vesper
overall experience was very good. the restaurant is quiet and cozy. food preparation and taste were exceptional. service good but a couple of times we had to flag down another waiter and ask him to have our waiter come to our table. price point is high but not unreasonable for quality of the food, with good sized portions. great place to go for a special occasion. beware of dress code!
Fantastic surroundings are great service excellent and food superb.
This was our fourth time definitely there will many more.
You go for the room and ambiance. Food is very good but menu is limited and is no longer true French with large American steak size portions but more is always more. Very expensive but worth it as a special treat.
It was a delicious and delightful dining experience!
Come every year. They still remind you of desired Dress code - Jacket! Yet they let customers in wearing shorts and T-Shirts! Either you have a dress code or you don’t!
Food was good as usual. We had Gnocchi, Salad, Halibut and steak . Good but not outstanding.
But, exclusive or not, we are at Martha’s Vineyard not
Boston or NYC. $57 for small Halibut plate and $61 for smaller Filet ? No wonder it was not very crowded at all on a Saturday night!
Service, Atmosphere, etc are needed for Special Restaurants, but sometimes so does the price!
Excellent in every way!
This is a restaurant that makes good on its considerable pretentions. The menu is select, almost severe, but the (apparently daily) additions are irresistible. (We ordered a lobster/crab invention, as a 1st course, that was ample and succulent; the other addition--a main course of perfectly seared large sea scallops--was no less winning.) We dined in the garden (the weather, unusual for the Vineyard, was ideal at 8:30pm), and it would be hard to improve on the lush garden-y feel of, yes, the restaurant's "terrace." Prices are very high (even for the Vineyard), which is why I give it 4 rather than 5 stars for value. But if you compare it to its magnificent competition in Edgartown--l'Etoile--it more than holds it own. We were celebrating a birthday: it's a birthday-celebration place.
Food was delicious. Ambiance was wonderful. The wait staff was informative and very good. The only issue with the staff is that they were constantly back at our table either trying to get plates taken away (even if not done) or checking if everything was fine - almost hovering. The price was quite high
Jeremy is just wonderful.
Initial reception by older host was chilly and dismissive, but after being seated the interactions with front of the house was lovely.
Great meal / great service / only negative was listening to the constant banter from some high maintenance seasonal folks next to us.... We will be back!
We have dined at The Terrace several times and have never had anything other than a truly exceptional and special experience. From the exquisite collection of artwork, imported antique furnishings and vintage lighting, to the impeccable service and menu. The ambiance is one of a classical English manor home, gorgeously decorated yet warm and inviting. The servers are all attentive without hovering. Oscar waited on us and could not have been any more welcoming and gracious. My husband had Bolognese for dinner which he loved and I had Halibut - the best I’ve ever had. We shared Zuccini bread pudding for dessert, something neither of us would have ordered without Oscars’ recommendation, given our tendency to choose desserts which do not contain vegetables..... it was remarkably light, and the cream cheese sauce was absolutely decadent. Can’t wait to have it again. All in all, The Terrace is 5 star all the way.
The decor was wonderful and the staff was very knowledgeable.
Service, food and ambiance were wonderful
