We had a great time as always! Can’t wait to return!
Good food and piano player was awesome
The music was great. Good dancing.
Extremely poor on any veggies.
Also need to provide adequate help for crowded packed space.
Restaurant was understaffed and crowded. Took a while for our server to get to us. Drinks were good. Food arrived cold. Music act was terrific which saved the night from being a total bust.
Go for the music by Tony and Tasha. They were great. Service was appauling. Very slow to do anything. Fries with 2 meals were cold and order on one meal wrong. Did not send it back as took too long to serve in first place. One of our party had to go and find our waiter to ask if we could order more drinks.
Good choice of fresh seafood.Seafoos chowder was very good...Poke excellent and nice portion...Nice mojito...They do need to get away from plastic straws!!!
The delivery of our food to the table took an extremely long time and the music that was play by a performer was so loud it was very difficult to talk to your dinner guest.
We loved being at an outdoor table to enjoy the nice weather and views from above the street. The calamari appetizer and the grilled grouper entree were both very delicious. Our waiter was new, but did a very good job and was quite attentive.
This is not the spot for a special occasion. Great for lively night out and drinks. The food was sub par, our waiter was extremely nice to remove our snow crab claws off our ticket (highly recommend to NOT order) but we ended up getting tacos and was just disappointed in food overall. However, the live music seemed to be a huge hit and we even had some special entertainment from another patron who literally danced the entire length of the restaurant. Great people watching and service. Food is a no go here.
We took my mom there for her first Valentine’s Day without my dad (he passed in August suddenly and they were married 60 years) .... the manager read this on my reservation and came to our table with a Rose for my mom. They made such a special gesture that made
My mom’s night. Truly. Cannot say enough about how much compassion they showed. Very often we wonder if people even read what we put on our reservation requests... well... I can assure they do! We had a lovely time!! The food was great and the music was wonderful
Good food and drinks are to be found at this nice Saint Armand's Circle institution. Though the real star of the show here is their wonderful piano lounge, with live music on many fine evenings. It could definitely go a bit later on into the evening .
Seated on time and our order was promptly taken. The food and entertainment were excellent.
We were seated upstairs but when we requested to be outside at one of the many empty tables they refused. Said those tables seated 4 and they might get busy when the music started. I did check open table app and they still had several reservation spots open for several hours following ours so it seems our request should have been honored. We left and went downstairs where it was very chilly and they didn’t have the heaters on. Service was ok but slow in greeting recognized and initial drink orders. But fine after that. This was our 4th visit and 3rd disappointing experience.
Upper patio nice for casual dining.
Music was way too loud! Couldn’t talk to friends
Good food. Great atmosphere with the duo playing music. Service was not the best. Getting a water seemed like an inconvenience
Bad service, cold food. A big disappointment all around. DO NOT USE YELP POINTS TO DETERMINE A RESTAURANT.
Sadly, despite pre-booking and confirming our booking within 24 hours of our reservation, we were unable to be seated and told bookings were half an hour behind. As it was a busy night, we offered to go and have a drink and come back. Upon asking if the table ought to be ready upon our return, she said maybe, if the table were done. So we were not full of much hope. Upon our return the hostess was even more unhelpful. She offered no possible solution as to when we might be seated or recompense for the time we had to waste waiting on our table. She would not physically move to check on other options or let the table know the next group were waiting, and made speaking to the manager seem a useless task. Ultimately she made us feel so unwelcome, with no hope of being seated that we left.
Food was delicious and well presented
Good food, great location and a very pleasant server (Colleen).
We enjoyed our dining experience. Would have been nice to have the piano person playing while having dinner otherwise we will be coming back again.
Our server Sarah was lovely. Everything we ordered was excellent, from the trio of tacos to the grouper sandwich and the kid’s meal of chicken fingers.
We were only ones there (off season) but food and attention were amazing!!
Average place , I expected a lot more , service was great food was just ok nothing great, don’t order the steak you’ll be dissatisfied
Disappointed in the menu change and happy hour drinks are weak
Everything was great. A wedding reception was there which added to the fun!
Good service and pleasant atmosphere
Based on the reviews and stars and the fact that I could not get a reservation on a Saturday night I thought this was a great place. Lucky for me my plans changed and I was able to get a reservation on a different Saturday night. When I arrived at the restaurant for my 7pm reservation there was no one dining there. It promotes live music which there wasn't any and the place was really just a hole in the wall. In walking around the area there were 4 or 5 restaurants that were thriving. First time I can say that the reviews and stars were not accurate.
I'm curious did you stay and dine? We have excellent food AND Live Music 7 nights a week. On Saturdays Tony and Tasha are fantastic and a lot of fun although we don't start until 7:30. I'm not sure how you could have stayed and dined without seeing Tony and Tasha after 7:30 and if not I am wondering how you can rate service and food?We apologize you didn't like the ambiance once it fills up it is great1
The food here was very good and lots of variety on the menu, even the kids had no complaints. And the atmosphere was great. We really enjoyed the live music. St. Armands is always a must for us on vacation.
Food was great and service was on point. Their tacos were amazing with so many to choose from. Poke was delicious. Definitely a place I would go back and enjoy.
The food is excellent. We love the gourmet tacos; jerk chicken is my personal favorite. The gumbo is excellent also. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food.
Fun place, 9 of us were there for dinner. Food is ok, but when you package it with the singing duo on the piano and great service we had a great night.
Excellent food!! We love all the tacos and the buffalo egg rolls!! Lobster mac n cheese!!
Wonderful food with great imagination. Or more basic choices too. But service was inattentive and slooooooow.
Only 2 servers upstairs so service was slow and spotty. Tables were not thoroughly cleaned when we sat down, glasses and silverware were not clean, lots of crumbs on the floor. Ceviche appetizer has a nice presentation but was much too short on the shrimp. The “famous” tacos were just average, would have preferred real corn tortillas (like in Mexico) and a better presentation. Blackened mahi sandwich was not really blackened seasoning and was a real small portion. Was celebrating a birthday, was on the reservation, but the waitress did not acknowledge. Overall a disappointing visit. Would not recommend.
Our group of 10, searching out food and fun on a Saturday evening at the last minute in St. Armand's, wound up at The Terrace at Surf Shack. We were seated at the huge booth in the back corner. The atmosphere back there was dark. It was too hot to eat on the terrace and with the huge storm that eventually came through, it would have been quite damp to actually be on the terrace. The restaurant was not busy.
Our server was, at first, cold and snarky. At the end of the meal, he was jovial and personable. Not sure what happened. He made recommendations, and there were mixed feelings about both the food that was recommended and self-selected. It seemed "flavorless" was the main complaint. As an appetizer we ordered two of the Catie's Corn Bread. One was so dry we could hardly cut into it. The other was hard to cut on the edges and crumbled to pieces in the center. I ordered Grouper Bites and the batter was light and the grouper was light and flaky, but for a beer batter, there was no flavor. Another of our guests had the Drunken Chicken, recommended, and felt the same; there was no flavor. My husband had the Short Rib Burger (forgot name) and it had a funny after taste. The fries that accompanied the burger were stale.
Down at the other end of the table, the Nachos and Tuna Poke Wontons went over better. The tacos also seemed to please and could be ordered individually as an extra to enhance an order. But really, how can you go wrong with Nachos?
There was live music, although it seemed that almost EVERY establishment we passed both in St. Armand's and Siesta Key had live music. I would not return.
The menu is exotic with some basics thrown in, but not too large. The fish and chips were fantastic, and the sashimi grade tuna taco also blew us away. The drinks could have used a little more kick, but still were nice. We got there a little before the crowd (6:30 pm) and were given the primary terrace table overlooking the street. To top it all off, a 96 y/o tap dancing woman put on a nice show which drew huge applause from the diners. Of course, the only debate is whether to eat dessert there, or walk off the meal and try one of the many sweet shops nearby.
We sat on the terrace which started out OK but as the sun set the sun in our eyes was very annoying. The server was prompt with bringing water and taking our drink order and also our appetizer order. We got the cornbread which was very tasty. From there our experience went quickly down hill. My wife ordered a fried grouper sandwich with no lettuce, onion or tomato and a side salad with honey mustard. The sandwich was served with lettuce, tomato and onion plus it was overcooked and dry and no dressing for the salad. I ordered the burger with no cheese cooked medium and a side salad with honey mustard. The burger came raw and also no salad dressing. The food was brought by someone else, not our server, who dropped the food and left before we realized we had no salad dressing and no ketchup. It was a long time waiting for our server to return to bring condiments and then didn’t see her again. The burger was inedible and we all ran out of water to drink. The experience was one that will prevent us from dining here again.
Waiter did not tell us the desert had a raspberry filling in it. I was told it was a chocolate cheesecake filling which was only about 1/3rd of the total desert. The tacos are incredible I highly recommend tacos and the buffalo chicken rolls. The drinks were a bit weak.
