Took my mom to Afternoon Tea at the Windsor Arms for her 75th birthday celebration. Service was warm and excellent. Thank you for a wonderful experience!
My bridesmaids and I had a wonderful time. Sandwiches and scones were delicious. Loved the idea of renting out fancy hats. The only thing that we didn’t enjoy was that we felt rushed at the end. Other than that we had an amazing time and our server was very polite and informative.
The hotel is lovely and the tea room is very pretty. The problem was the service and food. I booked afternoon tea for my mother and me and indicated online that one person was gluten free. I reiterated this over the phone three days before our reservation. When we arrived and our waitress came over, I indicated that I was gluten free. When our food arrived, everything had gluten. I mentioned this to the waitress and she took the food back. Meanwhile, we were drinking our tea without any of the yummy bites that are to go with it. When she returned approximately 25 minutes later, our entire service was gluten-free. I told her that as I had said in my reservation, over the phone, and to her earlier, one person was gluten free, the other was not. She took the food back and we waited again. Finally she brought one gluten free and one not. The gluten free bread used for the mini sandwiches left much to be desired. There is so much really good gluten free bread out there these days, and this was like white, plastic bread. The scones were quite good. I asked for more hot water for the tea and was given cool water. I was so frustrated at that point that I didn't bother saying anything. In the meantime, the waitress got our neighbouring table's tea wrong, and brought another table sandwiches with salmon and other fish, even though the patron had been clear that she was highly allergic to fish. When the waitress returned with her food awhile later, it was all gluten-free, even though, as she told her, neither her or her daughter was gluten-free. The next table was brought food with meat, even though they had indicated they were vegetarian. It was sort of like a comedy of errors. I believe they were understaffed that day, but the experience was in no way worth the $100 plus tip that we paid. Quite disappointing.
Was good fun and tasty. Even my son in law loved the experience!
Perfect for girls get together! Beautiful place!
We have a long standing love for high tea, having tasted some really impressive offers like Betty’s at York, UK, The Pump Room at Bath, UK and L’orangerie at Kensington Palace. For some reason, we had missed trying The Windsor Arms’ offer. So when a friend who is also fond of high tea came visiting, we decided to take our chances.
And we were not disappointed. On the contrary, we cannot wait to go back.
The selection of teas is superb and the sandwiches, quiches and pastries that come with your choice are nothing short of amazing not to mention abundant.
The service at The Tea Room is excellent and the ratio between price and value is more than satisfactory.
Highly recommendable not only for those who love high tea but also for anyone who wants to try a highly satisfying experience that combines tradition, class and culinary excellence.
I reserved table online 1 week before, and received email confirmation. I received confirmation call 30 minutes before my reservation time, while I was driving. I was not able to answer or confirm, but I showed up 5 minutes before my reservation time.
I found out part of the hotel is under construction after arrival, which is noisy, and totally unexpected to me. I was arranged to sit in the outer tea room, not the inside tea room with an antique fireplace. I was the only table there, overall experience was not pleasant. Tea room was full of construction noise.
Food and sandwiches were just average, not impresssive. I have been to the Tea Room few times. Food and environment seems better during the last few times.
However, Suri who served me that day, improved the overall experiences of the afternoon tea. She provided excellent services with pleasant attitude.
Lovely place to have a relaxing afternoon tea. Good variety of sandwiches and desserts. The scones are excellent.
The scones, Devonshire cream and preserves are excellent. Sweets sadly were not good at all. The tea sandwiches were too large and filling on the experimental side. Stick with tried and true tea sandwiches like egg, chicken salad, cucumber and fish (tuna salad or very thinly sliced smoked salmon or trout.
Definitely not worth the holiday price paid.
Second time coming here and was definitely a nice treat!
Exquisite afternoon tea. The sandwiches and daintiest were very creative. An excellent assortment of first class teas. My favorite is Tibetan Tiger.
Great service and wonderful food. Only issue (which is no ones fault by any means) was the larger group of ladies we were sat next to were quite loud.
There were only 2 tables booked in the room but they gave us a table directly beside the only other table that was occupied. I would be much more careful reserving with regard to placement the next time.
My experience at the Windsor Arms Tea Room was fabulous! This work lunch was a first for all three of us. One of the ladies in our party has a gluten allergy and they accommodated us. The decor was lovely, reminding me of a pastry shop straight out of Paris. The food was high quality and we could barely finish the delicious sweets at the end! They had a wonderful and wide range of selection of teas for any taste. I would highly recommend this experience!
Pros: very good scones, House blend black tea was very nice, nice seating and ambiance, good service, background music was at perfect volume level.
Cons: desserts need a lot of improvement in concept and execution; the sandwiches need some improvement in execution; the jams served with the scones were simply not good -- mixed berry jam was only OK, and sugar-free strawberry jam was essentially inedible, as it was watered-down in taste and texture. Perhaps most emblematic: the "Devonshire cream" listed on the menu was not only not Devonshire cream, it wasn't even butter. It was some odd cream-cheesey hybrid that had the unpleasant taste and sticky, gummy texture of low-fat cream cheese, (also an obvious component in the filling of the mini cream puff). It was gross and inedible, and it was a shame to serve such inferior accompaniments with such good scones. Moreover, it is insulting to try to market this as Devonshire cream, when that is such a crucial component to a proper tea.
Upshot: everything is nice about the Afternoon Tea here, except the food. Unfortunately, until they improve their scone accompaniments and desserts, I cannot recommend this place.
The scones were quite good but the sweets and savouries were stale. The tearoom is lovely but the sound of construction was distracting. The service was friendly but forgetful. Overall it was a bit disappointing.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself. This was a Christmas gift my daughter gave me. The ambiance was wonderful. Food was great. The only think negative I would say is that not all of us like seafood. But there was enough of the other to make up for it. Highly recommend The Windsor Arms. I posted some pics on Facebook. All my friends and family were interested in going.
Very good experience with my friend. I will defiantly go again.
Exceptional and unique experience! A must-try for everyone, at least once in their life. A great date idea, especially when celebrating a special occasion.
The décor was lovely, service was very good. The tables were too close together. The food was good - not great for the price. Tea was good which is what you would expect. Selection was varied.
The Tea Room provides a traditional and beautiful setting for high tea. The service was prompt for the most part although disappeared after we had finished (we had to ask for the bill)! High tea included scones, petit fours, small sandwiches - all of them tasty - and a large individual pot of the best tea I have tasted. The only issue I had was that it was extremely expensive at $45 a person. An elegant experience for sure but overpriced.
Very bad service, not recommended friends go there.
The setting was Lovely, the treats were Tasty, and the tab was $$
I thoroughly enjoyed afternoon tea at The Windsor Arms. All staff were attentive, courteous, and prompt. The selection of teas was excellent. The menu was adjusted slightly to accommodate a vegetarian without sacrificing the beautiful presentation and variety. The food was delicious, the setting was very lovely and serene, and the background music was soothing (e.g., Pachelbel and Gluck). The Windsor Arms high tea is the nicest, in my experience, of any location in Toronto.
Our server was attentive and accommodating. Afternoon tea is a ritual to celebrate a friend's birthday. Scones are to die for!
One of the best afternoon teas I have ever had. Thoroughly enjoyed it. And the cocktails we started off with!
Lovely venue, attentive staff, very small portions
Wonderful staff who were very thoughtful, accommodating and gave superior service.
Had a great time!! Lovely experience
I was extremely disappointed with the Windsor Arms Tea Room. I booked this for my mom's birthday thinking it would be a cute idea. It was $38 per person. The teas tasted awful and did not taste the way they were described on the menu. The food was mediocre at best, and for the amount of money I paid, I truly expected a lot more food. We were still hungry by the end of it. The service was terrible. Anytime we asked our waiter a question, he wouldn't know how to answer and kept picking our plates up to his face when we asked about certain items on the plate. Very unprofessional and non-hygienic. Would not recommend going for high tea here.
We celebrated my Mother's 95th birthday in style. I have had high tea in a number of locations, including London, and this was amongst the best. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a way to treat themselves for a few hours.
Formal afternoon tea
I booked Afternoon Tea to celebrate my friend's birthday and then read some of the reviews the night before and became worried. I had been there before for Afternoon Tea and had a lovely experience, so I became concerned that they had gone downhill after the negative reviews I read.
I love Afternoon Tea and my benchmark is Claridges in London, so my experience at Windsor Arms will be in relation to my experiences at Claridges, keeping in mind this is Toronto, Canada.
The atmosphere at Windsor Arms is Old World and quaint. We were seated at a table for two in front of the fireplace in the dark purple room. Our tea cups matched and one of the teapots didn't match with our tea cups. Not a big deal and I think it adds to the quaintness of the experience.
The jams and the Devonshire cream were already on the table when we were seated. The cream didn't seem spoiled as some had reported.
The was a fairly decent selection of available teas in all flavours. I've seen far smaller tea menus in Toronto. I'm fairly certain everyone can find something to their liking.
We were served by Nakul who promptly brought us our tea and it was piping hot. We were offered a top-up of hot water mid-way through our seating. Nakul was very pleasant. He enquired whether we had dietary restrictions and catered our tray accordingly. He brought us water when we asked and our tray of food selections came out promptly and he served us the quiche immediately so it was hot.
We were served both plain scones and cranberry scones. Not the best scones I've had as they were a tad doughy, but still enjoyable. Better than Starbucks, but definitely no where near the perfection of a Claridges' scone. That didn't stop me from eating both though! The preserves where strawberry-rhubarb and wildberry. Both were bland.
The quiche was yummy. I wish there had been more traditional finger sandwiches as I found the selection a little dry. The egg was ok and the rye was a little soggy. Nakul boxed the leftovers
My friend and I was really glad we chose the place for our high tea . The ambiance was perfect, our server Nakul was very knowledgeable and courteous. The tea was great ( but could be more hotter), the little sandwiches and savoury delicacies were perfect! Definitely will bring friends back !!
Very disappointing. We were the only ones there for an evening High Tea - the sandwiches were soggy and seemed as if they were made hours before, and the service was abysmal with a side of snark.
The scones were delicious, but definitely won't be going there again just for that!
Other than the scones the food didn’t seem overly fresh. Also, we had three little girls (8 and 9 years old). They literally had a cup of tea, scone and sandwich. But you are still charged $45! Then left with tons of food. It seems wasteful. They should really consider a lighter menu for younger people. I won’t come back with my daughter until she’s a teenager as it felt like I threw money away.
The ambiance was beautiful! Felt very posh and sophisticated. I took my mother here for Afternoon Tea for her birthday which happens to be on Valentine’s Day. Though there was a slight language understanding with our server, he did a wonderful job. I was INCREDIBLY disappointed to see that I had to pay close to $40 more than what I was expecting because of your “Holiday Pricing.” I’m sorry, but I don’t consider Valentine’s Day to be a “Holiday.” People go to work. It is not a stat holiday. So when I see my bill is jacked up with no extra special “Holiday” service, I feel let down. I didn’t even have enough money to tip my waiter because my money had to go towards the bill. If this is what you call a Holiday, it needs to be CLEARLY listed.
Is was nice experience for enjoy the atfternoon tea at Windsor Arms Hotel. Love the setup of the tea room. nice and quiet. The food is very testy and the service was very good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The price is resonable. We definitely will go back.
Service was horrible. The waiter was rude. I had to prepay for a party of 20, 1 guest couldn’t make it due to a family emergency they wouldn’t refund me.
Delicious little treats to go with the best pot of tea I've ever had. Not too busy or loud, great spot to grab a light bite and tea. Also love to decor and charm! Service was amazing - a bit pricey! We went on a Saturday and you get what you pay for :)
