The Tavern Ratings and Reviews
I have been to The Tavern numerous times. My experience (actually, my mother's experience) on October 22 was the first time I've ever had a negative experience. My experience differed greatly from my mother's, so my rating is an average of our experiences.
Mother had the omelet, which was definitely a miss for her. She complained that the omelet was improperly seasoned like the seasonings hadn't been thoroughly incorporated into the eggs. She said it seemed like each bite differed, with some bites being bland, others being extremely salty or spicy. Mother felt the salmon in the omelet was dry, and she commented that the spinach had been added without par-cooking ahead of time. She did not like this, even though this seems to be part of the current raw food fad. Mother complained that her coffee was weak, saying it tasted like "dishwater" (her words). She did state her accompanying breakfast potatoes were delicious. Mother acknowledged that this was the first time in multiple visits to the tavern that the food disappointed her. She was hoping this was just a one-off. Nevertheless, she won't be ordering the omelet again.
On the other hand, I could not have been more pleased with the Tavern Burger. I had heard raves about the burger, so decided it was time to try it for myself. The burger came just as I ordered it, medium. The melted stilton cheese was wonderful, as was the pretzel bun. This is a large burger, so arrive hungry! The burger was so well seasoned and flavored by the cheese that I did not add any ketchup, which I usually do. The burger was accompanied by shoestring fries, seasoned just right with salt and fresh rosemary.
The service was outstanding. The server took mother's omelet and coffee off our bill, even though we never requested this. The staff was genuinely concerned about my mother's disappointment.
Despite my mother's experience, I will be back. I had a delicious burger, and I believe Mother's experience was an exception.
We had an excellent evening at The Tavern. We started with drinks at the bar, while we waited for our friends. The bar was pretty full, but our bartender was great and very attentive. In the dining room our server was amazing! She gave us great suggestions and was very knowledge. The food was 5 star!! The ambiance really just pulled it all together. Such a great evening. We'll be back.
We arrived and it was a pretty slow evening. Great service, everything came out very fast! Between drinks, apps, and entrees we wee never looking around for our waitress. My husband got the goulash and it was exceptional. I hap the grouper, which was excellent but a little salty. The kale definitely helped balance it out.
My friend and I went here before a concert and I was excited because it had good reviews and a personal recommendation. I was disappointed by the cocktail, the food, and the service. The establishment itself has a cool vibe and I enjoyed the ambiance. We both ordered a bacon infused old fashioned and it tasted like bad, cheap whiskey. There was no indication that the whiskey was bacon infused nor that it was an old fashioned. We also ordered the Sunday dinner and I got the fried chicken with white meat only. The chicken was lukewarm and dry. The mashed potatoes tasted like they were from a cafeteria and I couldn't tell if the carrots were supposed to be firm or if they were just undercooked. This experience was disappointing and I will try something else next time I'm in Tulsa.
Steak was a bit overdone as I ordered medium rare. Served medium. I still ate the whole thing because it was delicious! For a $38 steak I thought it should have been cooked to order but would still recommend this place. Comped me my martini which was super nice.
I recently started working in downtown Tulsa and this place was recommended to me for lunch with my husband. We loved the selection and the sandwiches were huge and definitely worth the price. I didn't love the tiny fries but my husband did and our sandwiches were amazing. We already have plans to return in the future.
Walked in with no reservation and was told we could not be seated. Walked outside and opened the app and booked a reservation for 15 minutes later.
Very loud (not in a good way) and the service was really slow.
Food was not bad, it just didn't stand out. Will most likely avoid in the future.
We stay in the Brady District when we visit Tulsa. The Tavern is across the street from our hotel, so we have been here several times. Good, varied menu, steak, pork, chicken, fish American cuisine. Food is well prepared and tasty. Make reservations for weekends. Very busy. Hectic. Only complaint, felt rushed...for the price of the food, I don't want to be rushed. We'll return again.
Our first time downtown and had followed some recommendations from the website and hotel staff...perhaps I had my hopes up too high? It was ok. The host needed to be sent home to wash his hair...seriously not appealing to start with! We were seated promptly which was nice. Took a bit for our waiter to get to us. We knew we wanted the 'famous' burger so ordered right away. Waiter recomemded a great wine. The Moscow mule was not good. The drinks didn't come until after our food and we had to ask for them again. Wait was 20 minutes which I guess isn't bad. Ordered medium, were medium well; dry and not impressive. Bread was tasty. Frites...ugh. Think we will venture elsewhere next trip!
Tavern is a great corner spot in the Brady District with good service, good food, and a sort of "common room" atmosphere because of the decor and volume level. Try the "bacon popcorn" and "angry mac & cheese". It's a great lunch option, and there are several great bars nearby for after dinner.
The food was very good. We had oysters as a starter..probably only second to the ones in New Orleans! (Would go back just for them!!) The "April in Paris" cocktail was delicious! Tavern Burger was good as well just needed more Stilton. The only thing I did not like is that it was very noisy..but i would go back.
This was my second time at the Tavern and I love the atmosphere, decor, and all-around feel of the place. It's comfortable and not too loud. The food is absolutely delicious and the service is fantastic. This time I had the filet with mashed potatoes and asparagus which was cooked perfectly and oh so good! My friend had the burger which she thought was amazing along with the Angry Mac and Cheese which we all shared. It was excellent! My husband had the Steak Frites and felt that it was the best steak he had ever had in a restaurant and he is extremely picky. We even had dessert - Strawberry Shortcake (with lemon pound cake) and a Chocolate Hazelnut Pie. Both we absolutely delicious! Oh, and a great list of cocktails. I forgot the name of the one I had but it was awesome! I can't wait to eat here again.
