Good food and friendly wait staff. It's pretty small so not great for a large party. The wedge salad was way better than I anticipated and the grilled calamari and clam dish is the best.
Our party of four each ordered something different and everything was delicious. The duck breast with celery root puree was out of this world. My friends had the burger, clams & calamari and l as my bolognese- all enjoying their selections. The spicy deviled eggs and parmesan fries were great as starters.
The food and drinks were excellent, as was the service. We shared a few plates - they were all excellent, but the lamb bolognese was truly exceptional. A great find.
Had a great time with family, Waiter was friendly and fun, food was great, love the atmosphere
Consistently very good, from service, to the dishes to the atmosphere. A great neighborhood spot, unpretentious, welcoming, warm, friendly with a well thought out menu.
Great neighborhood feel, warm, welcoming and friendly. Menu is varied, creative and most importantly the food tastes great, consistently great!
have been here many times and they have never disapointed
We eat here frequently. The food is always creative and tasty, and the service is great.
Great spot, neighborhood feel, dishes are always on point, especially the lamb Bourgogne over home made linguini, perfect!
Great service in an always great atmosphere with delicious food!!!!☺
Friendly atmosphere. Food was very fresh. Enjoyable and positive experience.
Great show in night club area.
Great tucked away spot, the menu is creative (highly recommend the lamb bolognese over homemade fettuccine) and the guys who work there are consistently on point welcoming and friendly. If you're looking for delicious sensibly priced dining in a warm and friendly atmosphere look no further than The Tavern.
Close to the Kimmel for a casual meal. We enjoyed the fried pickle chips, wedge salad, crab cake(roasted corn salad underneath) and chicken nuggets (which were more like chicken balls -all white meat and a yummy honey sauce). Service was attentive and friendly. We would definitely go back!
The Tavern is always wonderful, and this night was no exception. We took friends who'd never been, and they loved it - vowing to return. The food is terrific, and the drinks are really excellent, and very well priced. The server is low-key and most entertaining. It's quiet, so easy to talk and be heard - and enough space to not feel that you're leaning over someone else's table. It's an attractive room, and one of Philly's small gems - we will happily go back!
The offerings are unique, food great, comfortable setting good service. Very enjoyable.
The food was superb, we split the burger and ordered a few appetizers to share. Everything was spot on!
Excellent food, service, atmosphere, music, and decor. Most importantly, excellent food. The fried green tomatoes, cheese plate, and sockeye salmon were fantastic. For dessert, the popovers with chocolate sauce were divine. Our server, Edward, was absolutely perfect - friendly, fun, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. I will eat here again!
Service was attentive and friendly... food was good and the price was right!
Limited menu but very good food at reasonable price. Tucked away on small interesting street. We were not there late but noticed they are open until 2am. Did notice that house wine by glass upstairs was $1 more than downstairs.
We had a pre show dinner here. My first time at this place. I will definitely come back. Good cocktails. I had the grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup. It was very good. My friend had the burger and said that was very good. Good service.
The fried pickles were great, as well as the pork belly slider.
Always excellent service and the best "veggie burger" in the city
A nice little place with great bar food. The piano bar above it can be a little raucous at times, but the atmosphere is otherwise nice. The dining area is nice, and the service has been great all three times I've been there. Staff are friendly and attentive.
The food is outstanding. Unique twists on great comfort foods. Atmosphere is cozy but not crowded or cramped.
Last weekend we discovered The Tavern to be a quaint pre-show dinner restaurant. It is within walking distance of the Academy. It offers good tasting, reasonably priced food with great service.
Both the food and the service at this restaurant were superior. There are a lot of interesting things on the menu and the prices are very reasonable. While the decor is just average, this place is a wonderful place to eat.
Perfect for a delicious meal and drinks before an 8 p.m. concert. Takes reservations. Great selection of beer, wines & cocktails. Limited appetizer and entrees afforded variety and quality. Hearty serving of Lamb Bolognese pleased my husband while I could have shared my grilled cheese and tomato soup. Quiet for our early dinner but pleasantly heard jazz pianist/singer upstairs.
Cool atmosphere- the restaurant portion is downstairs so it feels very cozy. A little cramped between tables but not too bad. I had the grilled cheese and tomato soup which was amazing - so filling and not terribly expensive. Wine was good.
Nice place for a burger and a beer. Clean, nicely decorated, coay, friendly service.
Food was great! Small and quiet
Delicious sriracha deviled eggs. Grilled cheese and tomato soup was great.
Grandma's parsnip soup was wonderful. I am still thinking about it. Lovely flavor, not too mild and not too strong. Great big bowl of Yummy! Cocktails and comfort food, I'm in favor.
This place is adorable. The restaurant is in the basement level and according to other posts there is a bar on the first level but we didn't go in.
The service was wonderful. our waiter displayed a real concern for our dining experience and was perfect. The menu had just the right amount of specialty dishes and yet enough choices for everyone.
A pleasant find and I will definitely be back.
Hard to locate but very satisfying before or after a show.
It is one of my favorite places to eat in center city. It is in my neighborhood, and I have never had a bad meal there. It is unfortunate when a waiter can put a damper on an otherwise perfect dinner out with a friend. However, even being ignored by the waiter, rushed through my meal by a person who is supposed to enhance my dining experience- I still loved the evening I spent there. The food was truly delicious and other staff members went above & beyond to give us amazing service- and that made the waiter's behavior seem insignificant.
The Tavern is a tavern! A nice little spot on a tiny side street. The beer selection was surprisingly eclectic. The best surprise was that there was a piano with a very nice piano player and singer. She was doing some standards and taking requests. An unexpected treat.
A very nice place to hang out, have a drink or have a low key dinner.
Thank you for an outstanding night. Impeccable service, amazing food and very relaxing laid back ambiance.
You must try the Wolf Fish and Chips. This is one of favorite fish and chip dishes in the city.
The place was really empty for a Saturday evening at 6pm but the food and drinks were fantastic and service was top notch.
We picked this restaurant because we weren't eating until 9:30 on a Sunday nigh, we didn't have many options t and the location worked well. We were expecting decent bar food and got much more. The restaurant was empty which sometimes is not a good sign but not in this case.
The restaurant is really nothing to look at but the food was excellent. We shared the pickled vegetables and they were wonderful. A really varied assortment, including pickled grapes which i'd never had before....they were so good!
We shared a mushroom salad and that was very different and very good.
I had the bass. It was perfectly cooked and had nice sides. One dining companion had the burger and the other the grilled cheese and tomato soup. Both were very satisfied.
The chef really has tricks up his sleeve. We will be back!
