The Tavern at the Henley Park Ratings and Reviews
We travel to DC for an annual meeting and this was our second trip to the restaurant. We love the quaint atmosphere and the chance for relaxed conversation over a delicious meal. The pork chops were excellent, as was the salmon. Delicious soup! Very attentive--but never intrusive--wait staff. We'll plan to return on our next trip!
Got there in the afternoon and were told that High tea doesn’t start until 2. So they accommodated us in the mean time. We ordered a Eggs Benedict to share and tea. The tea was Luke warm and we didn’t get a refill on the water until our high tea was practically over. The water went from Luke warm to cold fairly quickly with the weather. The scones were made fresh, outside of that, the rest of the pastries were old. The crust on the tart was soggy. A cute location for a high tea, just didn’t meet the standard that was expected
Lovely place, nice food, poor service! While the food was fine, the Henley lovey & well appointed, the service was poor. Only one waiter was handling the bar and dining room, with the support of two "bus" employees. He had his hands full, and kept a good attitude but twice, customers came and stood by his work area to get the bill. We were given the bill before being asked if we wanted coffee or dessert. No wine list was ever provided. It took 10+ minutes and 2 requests to get lemon for our water. It's a real shame because the food was well prepared, the dining room is simply lovely, and even better, quiet enough so that conversation is easy. Management needs to pay some attention to staffing.
Loved the peaceful atmosphere. Can be hard to find a peaceful place at the end of the day when you are tired and want quiet.
Had the porkchop. Huge and tasty. Caesar salad was a little on the small side but fresh. Service was perfect. Juan was my server, but another waiter assisted when a drink refill was needed. Kind servers.
Will give back.
It was unfortunate that there was a speaker at a microphone I. The main bar area broadcasting in the direction of the conservatory room where we had pre-requested seating for the ambience - why subject diners who select a quiet looking room to have to hear an unwanted business pitch
The food was quite good but access to our convention hotel was key to reserving a table. The servers were inattentive and almost dismissive as if our party, waiting for a third, did not deserve their attention. Our request for dinner rolls elicited a perfunctory " still baking" and resulted in rolls for dessert. The rolls really were excellent and would have enhanced our dinner experience.
Honestly, it's a very nothing special restaurant in a boutique hotel. For the same money there are multitudinous places in this area or a short Uber ride away. You could have just as easily gotten a burger and salad at the Marriott across the street. All in all, not worth the trip
A quiet gem tucked away on Massachusetts Ave. across from the monstrous Marriott "Marquis". Warm, convivial decor throughout the public spaces. The Tavern restaurant itself is intimate, perhaps 16-20 places, with an adjacent room to expand when necessary. Refreshing break from sterile "zen" (which is also nice at hits own time) with lush table settings and fine service. Short, thoughtful menu with good attention paid to wines. Tab is very reasonable for this level and in loud, loud DC - the silence is golden.
Very pleasant staff and unique pretty atmosphere. Hot rolls were
Sooo flavorful & served fresh & piping hot. Blackened chicken sandwich was delicious and a great bargain. I took half home for a tasty
lunch the next day. Everything was
so PERFECT except for service. Food
came reasonably fast but never saw
waitress again until we finished eating. In all fairness, there was a large event in the adjoining room.
Regardless, I'd go back often if I
lived in the area.
The sandwiches especially the smoked salmon and egg salad were great... I was filled up by the time I had both scones and all the sandwiches... I had to save the desserts for later... just wish we saw more or the server as we were placed in a location of the hotel where it was difficult to signal a need to a server ... especially as the tea got cold... but they eventually came... will visit again!
We had a delicious dinner at the Tavern. The food and service were first rate. Our waiter was attentive and friendly and the manager was great. The atmosphere is super cozy and comfortable, very nice old building. Food OMG is the Must !!! You should try! we loved! Great wine list and prices.
