Ambiance very disappointing. Room stark and uninviting. Cheap tableware. Mediocre tea. Not what we expected. Would never go again. However, food was excellent and Jamal, the waiter, was good.

I have a number of weird allergies, and the staff at The Tavern went out of their way to make sure I could enjoy the same meal as the rest of my party. I can’t say enough how much I appreciated their thoughtfulness!

The folks at the Henley Park pulled out all the stops for us at tea, even though we asked for an earlier table and were literally the only folks there. Nevertheless they laid out the full spread and the service was impeccable. And the surroundings, of course, are delightful.

Don’t decide not to go for afternoon tea based on the reviews - experience it for yourself. I enjoyed the food and the experience. And in reference to the one tea bag for a pot of tea comment, it was not a regular sized tea bag, it was large enough for the pot it was served in. Would have been nice to have a little music, but overall it was a nice experience and I would go back if I was staying nearby.

The Tea was $70 each which is what we about what we paid last year at the Sofitel but the Sofitel was so much better. Everything at the Tavern tasted slightly less fresh and not as tasty. I wouldn't go back there and wouldn't recommend it. If we do tea again next year, I'll go back to the Sofitel.

It was a lovely tea for the four of us. The only issue of concern to me was that we did not receive Devonshire cream and lemon curd for our scones. That detracted from our enjoyment of the scones.

Price jacked up tremendously during Cherry Blossom week. $70 pp including champagne...which I didn't want. Was offered juice as a sub. Food was fine but there was very very little of it for the money.

An authentic "Afternoon Tea" in the style of England includes much more than was offered at the Tavern. We were only allowed to have one pot of tea with one tea bag. If you wanted to try a different tea, that was a charge. If you wanted a second pot of the same tea, that was a charge. And for the size of the teapot, one tea bag made for a rather weak tea. And then the sandwiches, savories and sweets. Only one plate, with one sandwich per person. No additional food allowed or even offered. For $70/person, the experience was less than adequate and it was definitely not an Afternoon Tea experience one would get for the same price (often lower) in London. In sum... weak tea, one pot only, with only okay food. But only one sandwich for you!

Really disappointed in the tea service. The champagne was moderately okay, but the real disappointment was the food, which tasted stale and made of low quality ingredients. Definitely a lot was not made in house. If I had to guess, it was mostly procured through restaurant supply. Very dry puff pastry; brie cheese that was nearly tasteless; even the cocoa powder on the truffle had no discernible cocoa powder sharpness. For $70 per person, definitely not worth it. Spend a bit more and go to Salamander hotel for better champagne, food, and a much lovelier, more comfortable room.

My daughter and I had the most wonderful time experiencing our first afternoon tea at The Tavern at Henley Park. The food was amazing and there was such a good variety for the price we paid. The atmosphere was extremely pleasant and the waiter was very professional. We really enjoyed our waiter’s friendliness and patience with my daughter. The overall event was very memorable.

This was actually really fun and worth the $70/pp cost. We got a FULL glass of champagne that was a lovely addition to the sweet and savory foods on the tea tower. Don't be fooled, it looks cute and charming, but it's actually quite a bit of food. Only weird thing is that there wasn't any music playing, which made it even quieter at a time when there wasn't a large crowd.

Worst afternoon tea I have attended. Tea reservation was at 3:30, you know: afternoon. The folks at the front desk were amazing and super friendly and super helpful, the waitstaff was the exact opposite. We were rushed and were made to feel like we were imposing on their day. I made a note ahead with my reservation about allergies: COMPLETELY IGNORED. I then asked about ingredients to make sure and the waiter never came back to tell me anything. The tray was brought out and just put in the table: no explanation of what was what. And the tea. Oh, the tea. It was a tea bag in a tea pot… I’m not a tea snob, but c’mon. Really??? Oh, and no honey. Also two tiny ramekins with “lemon curd” and clotted cream for 3 people. We needed more and had to track down the waiter who NEVER returned one the tea and bites were placed on the table. ( one of the front desk staff noticed we were looking around and tracked him down - you know because we needed more clotted cream ) My companions thought the food was good, I thought it was just ok. Just barely. Then we waited for the nonexistent waiter to return with the check….and waited…and waited. I will say the tea cups were very nice. The food came out on a plastic plate tiered tray… And another very strange side note: I received a call midweek asking to call back if I wanted to keep my reservation. Which was a weird way to phrase it. If I didn’t call back we’re they going to unilaterally cancel a reservation? It wasn’t to call to confirm and reach back if I needed to cancel, it was call back if I wanted to keep it. Weird. I wanted to love this place, but, never again.

Went there for valentines dinner. Service was the worst I’ve ever experienced. Not sure where to start. Our food came 10 minutes apart. They don’t serve stake with stake knives. We had to wait 27 minutes for desert after main course. And then even after asking for the check I was waiting over 10 minutes and then I actually went to the counter and paid. Never brought the check at the table. You don’t expect this kind of service when you are paying premium for a so called premium restaurant.

We were only surprised for the Valentine’s Day menu price. While it was a good value. And understandable given the occasion, there was no heads up of the special menu and price. However, after being informed we were enjoying tea after the appointed time, the staff was gracious and attentive.

The restaurant staff was surprised to see us, and appeared unhappy about honoring the reservation. They said they were closing at the time we arrived & we were the only people in the restaurant. There were available time slots every 15 minutes for 2 hours before and after our reservation. The waiter was unfriendly, and we all felt that we were intruding. Our food was quite good, and reasonably priced. We all agreed it was the least welcoming restaurant we’ve ever endured.

This is a great venue and is really set apart by its aesthetics and comfortable atmosphere. The food was good and I would guess in the ballpark for cost and quality with the rest of the area. We had a full room as many conference attendees all arrived at once but other than the service being a little slow, it was a great experience.
