The Tavern at Diamond Mills Ratings and Reviews
The food was great...when it eventually came out. 45 minutes after ordering we flagged a random person (our server was nowhere to be found) and asked if our appetizers (salads) might make an appearance soon. Within minutes they came out and were delicious. I suspect that means they were sitting ready in the kitchen and no one bothered to check on them. When our entrees came out, we were given the wrong ones. Our server was nice but not especially apologetic and allowed us to believe this was our oversight. No one ever came by to refill our water. We again had to flag a random person to request more water and when he did come he refilled only one person's glass. when we asked if someone else could have some more water, he refilled a second person's glass but left the table with two of the four glasses empty and not because he had run out of water. It was really bizarre and we had a good laugh about it at the table. Overall this was a disappointing dining experience. The venue itself is lovely with a great view of the Falls. The service however was really lacking in many ways. We will not return. You're better off going to the Love Bites or Miss Lucy's cafe up the street.
We have enjoyed our Easter and Thanksgiving Holiday meals at Diamond Mills during 2014. A request for a Vegan Dish at Thanksgiving was provided at no extra cost and our guest was very pleased with her meal. The service was excellent, the food was much better than our meals at Mohonk House. The atmosphere was relaxed; we never felt rushed to leave. We will definitely being going back. Most recently, my husband and I enjoyed a New Year's day brunch which was also very good but we would have liked one or two soups added to the menu.
The brunch in the tavern was an excellent choice for New Years. The food was excellent, the salmon outstanding. The room was sunny and vibrant. My only reservation was the server, who attempted to rush us after brunch, during coffee. We are cognisant of the need to refill tables, but did not dally or overstay our meal, so the constant request to bring our check was unnecessary. That was the only negative of our lovely day.
Omelette station backed up and no sense of urgency. Replenishing of food was taking a long time. It was very mediocre food compared to all our previous experiences. Service was very spotty and almost felt like new staff was given to run the show. Definitely not worth a trip up for Holiday Meals!
My husband and I went with great expectations. We read a lot of good things about Dionond Mills (which included many references to the Culinary Institute of America) Unfortunately, it did not live up to the hype. The food took a LONG time to come out. I was really looking forward to some great salmon, it came out with gray, soggy skin. That is the ultimate fish cooking sin. Not only was the skin undercooked, but the fish was overcooked, I'm not sure how they managed that. Everything else on my plate was simply normal, not bad, but not good. The only thing that met my expectations was the bill, I paid for an impeccable meal, and got something that should have come with a McDonald's price tag.
Table water served at room temp tasted bad. Bread nothing special. Grilled calamari tasted very good, short on calamari. Salads more than ample, could cut size of these and not be a problem. We had surf and turf and for money were very disappointed. Meat was good but again in short supply. Surf was 1/2 rock lobster tail and meat from a claw of a lobster much bigger than where the tail came from, very very disappointing. main course meal plate was not warmed and food got cold very fast. Would not got back for dinner will try buffet sometime.
Diamond Mills is a charming spot located along a river with a waterfall right below the outdoor deck. The food is yummy, and the bar supplies plenty of variety. The room is big yet cozy. Service is attentive. Great for a special occasion or no occasion if you happen to be nearby.
Our party of 8 chose the Tavern at Diamond Mill for our annual holiday outing. We were seated in an extended booth near the fireplace. There were not many patrons probably due to the fact that it was the Saturday between Christmas and New Year's. The service was very good without being overwhelming. The food was very good. The salads and shrimp cocktail ordered as appetizers were wonderful. The zuppa di pesce was a large platter with a lot of fresh seafood and fish in an outstanding sauce which 3 of us ordered and had enough leftover to take home. The duck was pronounced good, The gnocchi was outstanding with enough left over to take home. The salmon entree was very good .On the other hand, the surf and turf was a very small portion and disappointing for the price.
We had some great wine and the desserts were shareable as they were very rich.
All in all we really enjoyed our experience.
We had a wonderful holiday brunch and thoroughly enjoyed the setting, staff and meal. I really enjoyed the a-la-cart menu as I was on a special diet and could not really enjoy a full brunch (and did not need to be tempted!). Everyone in our small party was immensely satisfied with the restaurant. Since I am within driving distance I do plan on returning and enjoying the regular menu fare. Because our experience at the restaurant was so pleasant our holiday was also. Thank you.
Polished Diamond Mills
The food, ambience, view, staff, from top to bottom, were outstanding. The food was not necessarily beyond the quality we've had elsewhere but was nonetheless very fine and served with style and care. The Menu for brunch was carefully selected and tended. The mixed drinks and beer list (we did not really look at the wine list) was satisfying and at a high level with a fine selection of German beer and several tequila based mixed drinks. Baked good were excellent. The lobster soup was absolutely A+ as was the kale caesar salad. Of the two main dishes, the burrito with veggies was good although the texture was slightly dry and the overall impact was of a healthy, nourishing and not very interesting wrap. The pork belly, on the other hand, was outstanding.
Good coffee, good tea (why do restaurants so often serve green tea with a little pitcher of milk? Does anybody put milk into green tea?)
We were so well fed that there was no room for dessert. The basket of home-baked goods, including my favorite - lemon poppy-seed scone - which arrived at the beginning of the meal, took care of our appetite for pastry.
The setting by the stream and the red bridge traversing the landscape, leading to the road up the slope with church and homes nestled in together, gives a perfect sense of village.
Understanding the charm, the restaurant took out the old industrial brick wall facing stream side and replaced it with floor to ceiling window. There is beautiful deck, chilly for outdoor dining on Christmas Day but surely lovely in warmer weather. A large stone fireplace set into an outer wall added style and historical resonance, as well as warmth, to the occasion.
My husband and I Had 1/2 pound shrimp and prosciutto and fig jam flatbread for appetizer, delicious. Best shrimp I have ever had. Large portions. My husband had Zappa de pesch and I had fish and chips. They were great. Great place to celebrate our 30th anniversary. Will be back again when we can sit outside on the patio. View is beautiful.
There were some very unusual combinations on the menu but we tried two of them and were thrilled. Such creative choices, well made and well presented. The service was great, and the ambiance lovely. A wonderful experience; we will be back! Thanks for a tasty brunch and friendly surroundings.
My family and I enjoyed our Thanksgiving buffet at Diamond Mills. The buffet items were varied and kept hot. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. They even provided a "doggie" bag with a Thanksgiving meal at the end of our dinner....a very nice touch. We definitely will consider returning there at a later date.
Went for their Thanksgiving Buffet. Restaurant was quite busy but no waiting at the buffet. Turkey, prime rib, and salmon Wellington all excellent. Side dishes some hits and some misses. Excellent soups, delicious sweet potatoes. Salads, vegetables, and stuffing not so great. Large selection of fantastic desserts. Service was good, not great considering it was a buffet, but have to appreciate the staff working on Thanksgiving. Overall very good considering how many people they had to serve throughout the day. Will return again for their regular menu.
Upon entering, we were met by friendly and attentive staff. We were early so we we toured the lobby of the hotel area and then had drinks at the tavern bar. A host came to our table and chatted with us for a few moments. We were later seated at a table with a great view. Food and service: excellent. Total experience

I brought my parents here for restaurant week and we all loved it! Staff was very accommodating and attentive. We are already making plans for our return trip. I had the sausage appetizer with lentils, the Cornish hen for entree and the brulee for dessert. All of the ingredients were fresh and the portions were just right, usually restaurant week portions veer toward the smaller side but these did not leave me wanting for more. We were all left satisfied.
It was only 6:30 in the evening yet the kitchen was already sold out of one appetizer and an entree.
I have a food allergy (Garlic) and noted this when making our reservation. I was informed that only one dish could be served without garlic - an utterly tasteless combination of a grain with squash. When the hostess inquired how things were I registered my dissatisfaction ( I had hardly touched the entree). Her response was that it 'must be hard for me to eat out with an allergy'. I replied that I eat out often and can usually find good food that I can safely eat. She then remarked that the chef is Italian and loves to use garlic. I would understand if the restaurant billed itself as Italian but it doesn't. Why ask if you don't really care?
Very disappointed. We went there to taste the entres however our choice of entres to select from was very limited. We were there during restaurant week for a Sunday lunch. of the three entres only 2 were available from a list of 3. They were out of the offered trout and Scallops. The remaining choice was flatbread or pizza and a grain based dish that was tasty and a good side dish, not an entre. So my goal of discovering what the diamond Mill was abjout for a future place to bring familyand friends to for the holidays was not realized. I expected a full menue to choose from, I didn't realiz that during restaurant week one was not offered an array from which to select from.
We had been looking forward to the published Restaurant Week menu &, when ready to order, were told the trout option had sold out. Nothing else on Price Fix appealed to us, so 2 of us ordered turkey burgers. Plating was appealing, but the burgers were so dense, dry and flavorless, we barely ate any. 1 in our party had chicken & waffles; the chicken was a huge, breaded and fried breast over a waffle with an odd tasting sweet sauce; it was dry, flavorless and the coating was hard.
Our waiter never returned with twice requested coffee refills, did not ask why we hadn't eaten half our burgers, or if want them wrapped, nor if we wanted dessert. No curtains made the afternoon sun coming directly in on us very uncomfortable. Won't return.
I picked this place for the Restaurant Week menu for my girlfriend and I. The place was very spacious and had a great view of the waterfall and bridge. Inside the fireplace was going. Over all I thought my meal was ok. I got the pumpkin soup appetizer and cornish hen meal. I just wasn't a fan of the taste, but it wasn't prepared badly. My girlfriend got the beet salad app and lamb shank dinner, which was delicious. Both our desserts were great. I got the peach creme brulee and she got the chocolate tart. Overall a good dining experience, but I don't think I'd go back except to sit outside and enjoy the nice view!
We lived sitting in the bar for a happy hour drink. Great prices, great ambience and delicious warm nuts served. Dinner was a bit of a letdown. Bread and olive oil selections were delicious. Both my husband and I felt our entrees were too salty and we barely ate them. The meal was discounted for restaurant week, but we still felt it was not worth the price. We would have been mad if we paid full price. We will definitely go back for happy hour, but not dinner.
This was our second time at this restaurant. The food is awesome starting off with the shrimp cocktail that is prepared and presented in a unique fashion. the flavor of the shrimp and the accompanying dips is terrific. rest of meal very good. ambiance very nice. business was slow for a sunday dinner time, we were one of only two groups eating that night. not sure what that's all about?
Spent a weekend in Saugerties, found this place online. Didn't really know what to expect. Place looks beautiful. Quite unexpectedly, they came around with on-the-house hors d'oeuvres which were great. The food was just great, neither of us could finish the amount of food we got. Great service too. This place was a real treat, I heartily recommend it!
We stayed at the hotel, which was lovely, and was pleasantly surprised by the roomy patio, and view of the falls. Staff at hotel were friendly, attentive and very professional. We ate at the tavern, and was greeted by a very engaging gentleman, who seated us, and served us champagne, that had been ordered by our son, as an anniversary surprise. Lindsay was our waitress, she couldn't have been more accommodating and a great sport, with our antics. The food was very good, they were out of lobster mac/cheese, we were disappointed. Other than that, it was a wonderful experience.
Georgeous Dining Room. Servers need a lot more training. While our's was very nice, it was clear she was not experienced and awkward. We were there at 11:00 and wanted to order Bloody Mary's. Our server politley informed us that drinks cannot be served until 12:00. That was fine but we were there until after 12:30. She could have asked if we would still like to have a drink. More money for the house and her tip too. Two of us were given dinner menus, one had a brunch menu. That was promptly corrected. A bus person removed my half full cup of coffee???? Kitchen was very, very slow considering there were only about three or four other tables. Server never came back to the table and I have no idea if desserts were available. Ate there 10/19/14
Our experience with Open Table was perfect! We loved the Tavern at Diamond Mills, the meal was fantastic ( a bit pricey but delicious and creative), the service was fantastic and the ambiance was lovely. If you go, get outside and see the falls, it is spectacular!
My wife and I visited on a 3 day weekend to Hudson, NY for our fall color tour of the Hudson Valley. Our visit included a tour of Olana, the Frederic Edwin Church mansion as well as a planned visit to Hyde Park. My wife's friend is from the Saugerties area and knew about the Tavern at Diamond Mills. She indicated that this was a 'must' for visitors to this area. We are pleased to say our visit to Saugerties was well worth the time. Diamond Mills is an outstanding restaurant for the most discriminating of tastes. Our host Christmas was very engaging, and made us feel right at home. The wait staff is top notch and attentive to the slightest request. Chef Napoli is at the top of his game, 4 stars! Will we come again? Very soon, I hope!
Buffet is not my strong favorite. I prefer to eat in the Restaurant where the ambience is outstanding and is quiet.The theme food service is fine if you like the theme and the food that supports the theme.
Diamond Mill dining is for elegence. People dress to suite the Room.
You have a new supervisor for the Restaurant. He has brought the Room up to a wonderful level. His experience and guiding hand shows.
We have gone here several times now and have always had a really special time. Aside from the great food and ambiance the staff is very friendly, helpful and professional. Our waiter whom we had before was so accommodating and made our experience perfect. Looking forward to going again especially around the holidays.
