We made a reservation and still had to wait 25 minutes for our table. The tables were very close together, but we didn't mind. The service was amazing and the food was delicious. But, when I'm paying over $30 for an entree, I expect more than three scallops to come with the dish.
Would not recommend. The waiter had a condescending attitude. Ordered the fillet with the potatoes and hollandaise sauce. The potatoes and sauce were cold. I think when you are spending that amount of money for a main course it's inexcusable to be given cold potatoes and hollandaise sauce. And the waiter was like what's the big deal about. My Husband asked if they could swap the eggplants that came with his main courses because he does not like eggplants for Brussel sprouts. And the waiter said that was not a problem to switch them. But when the bill came we were charged for a Brussel sprout side dish instead of just swapping the vegetables like the waiter said they would. The dessert was bland tasting. It was supposed to have lemon curd in it, but it was such a sliver of lemon curd that it was non tasting. The restaurant is small, but somehow the waiter kept disapearing for long long periods of time. A waitress got our drink order. Another waiter had to get the waiter to tell him about the cold potatoes and hollandaise sauce. We waited a ridiculous amount of time to pay the bill.
The first impression of The Tasting Room is the 'clean' decor...almost spartan. Reading the menu you find really creative entres and starters. I had the Chef's rendition of Zuppa de Pesche with Monk fish and served with clams and shrimp in a small dutch oven filled with a wine butter sauce. It came with a side of aeoli slathered crusty bread. Amazingly delicious. Their take on bread pudding came with the pudding infused with pineapple chunks, a scoop of coconut Ice cream topped with whipped cream ,sliced strawberry and a mint leaf on top. Perfect ending to a lovely meal. Oh and yes their wine list is quite excellent. Have added this place to my frequent visit list.
My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary, most notably the service was great. Our table was under the A/C vent and we were both very chilly, we asked a server if they could turn the a/c down and the manager came to our table a short while later to let us know he had turned it down, and check on how we were enjoying the food.
We tried the duck foie gras for an appetizer. It was something I'd always wanted to tey, but definitely an aquired taste and just not for me. My boyfriend liked it and ate it all however.
For dinner I have the lamb rack with morroccan spices; it was good but didn't seem like an exceptional dish for the price. My boyfriend got the crab cakes and really liked them.
Some restaurants offer wine by 4, 5, 6, or 9, Oz glasses; TR only seems to offer measure 4 Oz glasses. I had Reisling with dinner which was perfect, and a glass of tawny port after the meal that was rich and sweet.
The server brought ustwo glasses of complementary champagne with the check and told us happy anniversary. Overall the best service we have had eating out. The ambiance was romantic and upscale, and everyone in the restaurant was very respectful and not too loud. Although the food wasn't over the moon exceptional, it was good so I am giving this restaurant 5 stars, and would definitely like to return again.
Great wait staff. Very attentive. Very busy Saturday night. The Filet was very good but the pork chop was under seasoned and a tough I was underwhelmed by the reputation vrs the quality of the chop.
The price was high for mediocre food. The veal was dry. The seafood broth was too bland.
Excellent as always. Great service and the 10 oz filet was superb as was the monkfish
Very nice option in Frederick Md
This is my favorite restaurant in Frederick. The food is excellent, and the service is top notch.
The food was delicious and the service was very good. A great experience.
The food was excellent and our waitress was very attentive and accommodating. Would warmly recommend this restaurant to anyone willing to try something new.
Another amazing meal at the Tasting Room, first chance to try the new Spring Menu, it was excellent! My wife had the new Monkfish Stew which had amazing broth (get extra bread to soak it up) and was loaded with tons of tasty seafood. I have the new seared tuna and it was excellent. Super high grade sushi tuna. Dark and flavorful, so delicious. As always I got the Foie Gras appetizer and it never disappoints. The new version of the pork belly was really good, the slaw with it was a perfect compliment.
This month we are celebrating birthdays in my home. We each get to select a restaurant and we fought over the Tasting Room! It's the best of Frederick, MD!
Food and service were both exceptional, and nearby evening parking was a snap. Available wine flights are a thoughtful touch as well. Will definitely return, even though The Tasting Room is 60 miles from our home in Anne Arundel County.
The food and service was top drawer. I had made a reservation for 6 and we had two more join us at last minute and the staff was very accommodating.
Go early and sit at the bar. Bar maid was fantastic. watching her was worth the dinner. she made 2 drinks at once and the ones they made up were really fun and tasty. nothing is bad, everything is great. price is fair and just wish it was bigger so I could get in more often.
Great service quality food 😘
Celebrated a birthday with family
You can never go wrong with the Tasting Room. Always great options, well prepared, excellent wine, good service and atmosphere
Jeff was great! love his service style
We arrived late Sunday afternoon for brunch. Although the place was very full, it was still possible to have a quiet conversation. The food was delicious! My crab, asparagus, and mushroom omelette was among the best I've had. We've never been disappointed in the meals here.
Everything is delicious!
It was very busy when we were there. It took a few extra minutes to get our table even though we had a reservation. The wait wasn’t bad though. The wait for dinner was long and the crab cakes had a lot of filler in them. Over all experience was good.
The meal was supposed to come with bread for the table, however our small plates and butter knives were removed by the time the waiter came by to ask if we wanted more bread; we never received any in the first place. When we did get bread, we were not given plates or knives for it. My boyfriend’s entree was supposed to come with a salad, which he never received. Overall the food tasted good but certainly was not reflective of the prices.
Our favorite Frederick restaurant! Fresh ingredients and really a lot of options to choose from.
Great brunch! We could gave stayed until dinner!
Great meal! We had not been there for a while and forgot how great it is!
The Tasting Room has some of the best food in downtown Frederick by far. They are in the same league for food (although very expensive) as Hootch and Banter and Volt. My 8 year old requested to go there for her birthday dinner as she has impeccable taste. However, I had asked specifically for a dessert that she would like when making the reservation in Open Table and a team member called to to verify that we would be getting not that one but another one of my choosing. They even verified as such upon arrival but within the hour apparently they forgot and gave it away to someone else and had no more. Further, the waiter was not very friendly or attentive at all but the busgirl was very accommodating. She deserved the tip more that the waiter did for sure.
As always great however the winter menu has been around too long.
Great birthday meal at the Tasting Room! Food was outstanding and service on point. Definitely a great experience. We will be back.
My wife and I love the food here. The only downside is how small the restaurant is and how crammed together all the tables are. The bar area is always packed with lots of people standing. Which isn’t a huge deal. But the tables, especially if you’re just 2 people dining, are so close together. You can hear everything the couple on either side of you is saying and there’s hardly any room to squeeze between the tables to get to your seat.
Always love the tasting room for the food and service but have found it very noisy the last few times I have dined there.
This is tough. The food was quite good as was the service. Happy hour in the bar was a disaster as it was super crowded and the bar area is poorly designed with tables jutting up against the bar stools. The main dining area suffers from the same problem. The space is small and they are cramming in too many tables. While we had a nice table at the window, my chair was only a couple of inches from the back of a chair at a table behind us and I kept getting hit when the man sitting there moved. While the food and service were certainly excellent enough for a return visit, the restaurant layout and crammed accommodations in the bar and restaurant will keep me from coming back.
I'd been to The Tasting Room once before and I've been wanting badly to go again, so when my father & stepfather came into town, I took the opportunity. The Tasting Room has a very small footprint, which means the tables are VERY close together and the ambient noise is quite loud at busy times. It also had "dinner lighting" which means if you're like me, it can be hard to read the menu. However, the food will never let you down.
It was Restaurant Week (which might account for some of the business) and I ordered the prix fixe menu for the occasion, but we also ordered two appetizers from the regular menu, the panko shrimp and the "sushi grade tuna" tuna tartare. I expected the Restaurant Week menu to be petite portion sizes, but if they were, they were still very generous and filling. Everything was delicious, satisfying three very different palates. I had a cocktail which was delightful and made me quite sad I was driving, so I couldn't have another.
The wait service was average-good. Our waiter was knowledgeable and courteous, but there was no standout moments (or horrible moments) and we often had to wait for refills on our drinks or to have finished dishes cleared. But nothing too irksome or that would keep me from coming back or recommending the place to others.
The food is excellent but the service is slipping. I had requested a seat by Market St. window. Had made it 1 month in advance, so actually forgot about window request. Had to wait...and wait...and advised it was because I had requested window seat...so after 20 min wait, we were seated about as far from Market St. as could be...??? House salad is always good, but always overdressed. I requested dressing on the side, it arrived overdressed...I said nothing. My husband's order of calamari arrived barely warm, as did my sword fish. Who serves cold entrees? So when asked, we told them and they went back for a heat up....took a long time. If someone sent a dish back to my kitchen, it would be a priority. The manager finally brings them back and tells me how much everyone else is enjoying their swordfish. Really? Was theirs also served cold?? Once brought to correct temperature the swordfish with veg in caper sauce was second to none. And we were offered comp desserts....which was nice, tho I am not a dessert person so had a limoncello. So again... excellent food but the service is slipping. Hope it is not a new trend.
This was our best visit to the Tasting Room. Service was very good (Connor), cocktails interesting and generous for $12 and good suggestions on wine with dinner (both Italian). The duck was medium rare to order, foie gras' good (but too much other stuff on the plate) and pleasant winter salad. Our only complaint (if it is one) is the noise. This restaurant is almost always noisy, and I know it was a Saturday night, but wow. I'm glad we had someplace to be at 8pm because it was getting deafening as we left. Otherwise, good choice for Frederick.
The Tasting Room never disappoints. They have the best Filet anywhere, and I do mean anywhere. The Au-gratin potatoes are equally amazing. I also recommend the lobster chowder. Make sure you see Amanda at the bar for a French Quarter.
Amazing!!I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
We love this place. Come every year (past 5) for our anniversary. We get the filet mignon and it never fails us! Loud not private but feels like you might be in New York or other big city!
