The Tasting Room Ratings and Reviews
one of the more enjoyable brunches I've experienced in the Frederick downtown area. I use a walker to get around and I was greeted and the door held open upon my arrival. I had asked previously if they would accommodate delivering a cake I had brought for my friends 65th birthday. They indicated they would for a $3 fee per person for outside food which I can understand. I was then escorted to a very accommodating for my circumstances table where my friend was already seated. It was at that point our waiter Jeff took over. He is probably one of the best waiters I've ever had. The food was cooked to order and delicious. A very wonderful brunch. Thank you Tasting Room!
I loved everything about the tasting room. The food was great, the place is beautiful, and the service was very friendly. I probably wouldn’t go back, however, because I feel like there are many comparable restaurants in Frederick for a fraction of the price.
We did not have a positive experience this time. We were celebrating Valentine's Day, and thought since our reservation was very early, we would not encounter a slow kitchen and inattentive wait staff, but we did. We found our food to be mediocre at best, and our server to be rude. We have been here many times, and this was by far our worst experience. Our waitress seemed to be intentionally doing things we asked her not to. She kept reaching across the entire table to get items she was asked to leave (I am a slow eater and explained I was not finished), while leaving clearly finished discarded plates perched on the edge of table. Our food took a great deal of time and was not well prepared. The crab dip we have gotten numerous times did not have crab in it--it was cream cheese with old bay (way too much old bay), but no crab.
We had lunch here for my daughter's birthday. There was a snafu over our reservation, but it was taken care of immediately with polite acknowledgement of their mistake. The food couldn't have been better. My daughter ordered the Lobster Chowder and the Broccolini. I had the Organic Atlantic Salmon. My daughter had Apple Cobbler for dessert and I had a latte. All were exceptionally good.
I understand that they have a vibrant bar scene, but at lunch it was quiet and relaxed. We had a window table and had the perfect celebration.
We'll be back here!
We had brunch and we both ordered Eggs Benedict but one was the Salmon Cake Benedict and both dishes were perfect! The pooched eggs were cooked just right and the Salmon cake was so crunchy, beautiful. We would've given 5 stars except for the dessert. We ordered carrot cake to go ($10) and when we got home and looked at it, we were so disappointed. We planned on sharing but here was this little round portion maybe 3 inches in diameter and maybe as high. To small to share and worse than that, very little cake and it was dry. The cream cheese frosting was good and enough considering how thin the cake was sliced but it couldn't mask the fact the cake was dry. Save your money on the carrot cake.
Trendy place to be and be seen in Frederick apps were spectacular we had the tuna , mussels, and chicken liver which is a Jewish delicacy , enjoyed it , real disappointed in the crap cakes , they looked much better than they tasted , bland , once you get out of Balto , no one can do crab cakes , wtf? Right?spouse got the cod which she loved , good drinks , waiter was polite , took awhile to get our drinks at first which I hate , but great service after , attentive , than forgot our dessert which we didn’t care by than because we were full , kinda did us a favor by forgetting , would go back for sure
My husband and I really enjoy The Tasting Room and we go often. This particular night was his birthday and I mentioned that it was my husbands birthday thinking that something special would happen to make the experience more memorable however; we seem to have had a "newbie waitress" that didn't seem comfortable yet with serving. We did not let this spoil the evening. We will continue to have dinner here as often as we can. I definitely would recommend this to others.
On Wednesday, I tried to make a Saturday reservation, and 8:30 was the earliest table, so I figured I was in for a good experience.
Parking is either metered or across the street in the parking garage. Not an issue, as there was plenty of parking, but that may be different on a warm summer evening.
Upon walking into the restaurant, two things are immediately apparent: There's a cozy, dim lit (no cellphone flashlight needed) vibe, and it's loud(!), due to the high tin ceilings, so not the place to disclose any dirty secrets, or you'll be yelling them across the table.
The table hadn't turned over yet, so we were invited to have drinks at the bar. The bartender (starts with a "J") was attentive and upbeat. The cocktail list was non-traditional (rare to find a Brandy Alexander!) and inventive. After only 15 minutes, our table was ready.
Table seating is tight, where you may unintentionally bump the persons chair next to you, trying to get into your seat.
Our server (Zack) came right out, and we ordered another round of drinks (the rum, mint concoction was divine). The menu isn't extensive, which is a plus. Appetizers provide options for various tastes (lobster corn chowder, cheese tray, beef carpaccio, mussels, foie gras, etc. The meal was well paced. Personal pet peeve is the entrée coming out just as I'm completing the appetizer, which was not an issue here.
The entrees were appropriately hot (hot food should be served hot!) and delicious. The scallops were well seasoned and seared nicely over a bed of farro, and the pork osso buco was fork tender with a rich tomato-veal reduction that was worthy of bread to get every drop.
The dessert option was limited, and the one option we decided to try was sold out for the evening.
By the time we left, after 11:00, most of the tables were empty, but there were still plenty of people at the bar. It was a wonderful evening with great food and exceptional service. We'll definitely be back!
One of my favorite restaurants in Frederick. I liken it to a little bit of Soho. Everyone's meals were very good from duck to filet to steak to fish. Room was fairly noisy. It is expensive ($300 for 2 couples with tip with a 1 drink each and 2 desserts). Service was very good. Not rushed which is good when spending a lot of money!! Also, enjoy sitting at bar and chatting while wife shops!! I'd say it is creative but not quite foodie which is a positive in my book. That means there is something interesting without being so weird, can't find an entree. We will be back again.
I reserved a table at the tasting room for a pre-anniversary surprise aperitif and appetizer. The cocktails are great and the service was phenomenal. The appetizers are mouthwatering and always consist of the best quality ingredients and are hand crafted with care. Definitely a great place for a romantic dinner or anniversary celebration.
First time at the Tasting Room. Given the reputation I had very high expectations. Simply put they were not met. The food was average to brow average (incredibly salty). My son had a steak, I had the lamb chops and my wife had the crab cakes. We each tried all three plates. The crab cakes were the best if the bunch. They were very good, big chunks of crab and held together just enough. Really enjoyed those. The steak was average at absolute best. I would put it on par with a Texas Roadhouse level steak. Not cooked very well and little taste. Really disappointing. The lamb chops were ok but HEAVY on salt and seasoning.
For the price of the restaurant you can do MUCH better in downtown Frederick (Firestone’s and Isabella’s are a clear step up).
I have been walking past the tasting room for the past few years. Its a shame, we never ate here sooner. The dishes were amazing. The service was outstanding. I had the scallops, which were perfectly cooked. My husband had the crab cakes and was impressed. If you love good quality food, this is the spot for you. It is slightly pricey, but it is well worth it.:)
Saturday night we had another amazing meal at the Tasting Room. Everything was perfect from the service and the quality of the cocktails before dinner and then the impeccable service after we were seated. The suggestions from our server were spot on, the foie gras was incredible as were the mains. There are many options in the DC area and even in Frederick but the Tasting Room is always “our place”
Wonderful food! Service not so good. Our initial server somehow turned us over to someone else, who then sort of forgot about us. Had to track down our drinks and my kids then reminded them it was my birthday. We were there early so not sure what happened with the service as they were not that busy when we arrived. A bit pricey but the food is always great! Just wish the service matched to food!
