Small plates soup and sandwich serious crab dip excellent service. Recommended
The tasting room has one of the best filet mignon I have ever had, the service is wonderful, and the ambiance is very relaxed. I took my boyfriend for his birthday and he already wants to go back. It is a great place for celebrations and date night!
A great meal at a fine restaurant in downtown Frederick. The server was very attentive and nice. Food was excellent, although the Filet Mignon was a touch on the dry side at medium well. Still, a great place for an anniversary meal! Definitely recommend.
My husband and I really enjoy The Tasting Room and we go often. This particular night was his birthday and I mentioned that it was my husbands birthday thinking that something special would happen to make the experience more memorable however; we seem to have had a "newbie waitress" that didn't seem comfortable yet with serving. We did not let this spoil the evening. We will continue to have dinner here as often as we can. I definitely would recommend this to others.
Always a great place for delicious food, ambiance , great wine, and superior service
On Wednesday, I tried to make a Saturday reservation, and 8:30 was the earliest table, so I figured I was in for a good experience.
Parking is either metered or across the street in the parking garage. Not an issue, as there was plenty of parking, but that may be different on a warm summer evening.
Upon walking into the restaurant, two things are immediately apparent: There's a cozy, dim lit (no cellphone flashlight needed) vibe, and it's loud(!), due to the high tin ceilings, so not the place to disclose any dirty secrets, or you'll be yelling them across the table.
The table hadn't turned over yet, so we were invited to have drinks at the bar. The bartender (starts with a "J") was attentive and upbeat. The cocktail list was non-traditional (rare to find a Brandy Alexander!) and inventive. After only 15 minutes, our table was ready.
Table seating is tight, where you may unintentionally bump the persons chair next to you, trying to get into your seat.
Our server (Zack) came right out, and we ordered another round of drinks (the rum, mint concoction was divine). The menu isn't extensive, which is a plus. Appetizers provide options for various tastes (lobster corn chowder, cheese tray, beef carpaccio, mussels, foie gras, etc. The meal was well paced. Personal pet peeve is the entrée coming out just as I'm completing the appetizer, which was not an issue here.
The entrees were appropriately hot (hot food should be served hot!) and delicious. The scallops were well seasoned and seared nicely over a bed of farro, and the pork osso buco was fork tender with a rich tomato-veal reduction that was worthy of bread to get every drop.
The dessert option was limited, and the one option we decided to try was sold out for the evening.
By the time we left, after 11:00, most of the tables were empty, but there were still plenty of people at the bar. It was a wonderful evening with great food and exceptional service. We'll definitely be back!
One of my favorite restaurants in Frederick. I liken it to a little bit of Soho. Everyone's meals were very good from duck to filet to steak to fish. Room was fairly noisy. It is expensive ($300 for 2 couples with tip with a 1 drink each and 2 desserts). Service was very good. Not rushed which is good when spending a lot of money!! Also, enjoy sitting at bar and chatting while wife shops!! I'd say it is creative but not quite foodie which is a positive in my book. That means there is something interesting without being so weird, can't find an entree. We will be back again.
Wonderful dinner. Steak over cooked twice but still fantastic
My husband is a chef so he is more of a critic than I am but he said for a fine dining place there was nothing special about the food and overpriced. It also doesn't seem very romantic as the tables are one on top of each other.
1/20/18 early evening. Seated promptly (reservations). Very attentive staff. Wonderful waiter who saw to our every need. Wife had the grouper and I had sea scallops. Sides were as delicious as the main course. We will be back.
Lovely restaurant, great service. Great choice for lunch or drinks
I reserved a table at the tasting room for a pre-anniversary surprise aperitif and appetizer. The cocktails are great and the service was phenomenal. The appetizers are mouthwatering and always consist of the best quality ingredients and are hand crafted with care. Definitely a great place for a romantic dinner or anniversary celebration.
First time at the Tasting Room. Given the reputation I had very high expectations. Simply put they were not met. The food was average to brow average (incredibly salty). My son had a steak, I had the lamb chops and my wife had the crab cakes. We each tried all three plates. The crab cakes were the best if the bunch. They were very good, big chunks of crab and held together just enough. Really enjoyed those. The steak was average at absolute best. I would put it on par with a Texas Roadhouse level steak. Not cooked very well and little taste. Really disappointing. The lamb chops were ok but HEAVY on salt and seasoning.
For the price of the restaurant you can do MUCH better in downtown Frederick (Firestone’s and Isabella’s are a clear step up).
Absolutely Amazing can't wait to go back. Food was great, staff was great. Not a complaint insite
I have been walking past the tasting room for the past few years. Its a shame, we never ate here sooner. The dishes were amazing. The service was outstanding. I had the scallops, which were perfectly cooked. My husband had the crab cakes and was impressed. If you love good quality food, this is the spot for you. It is slightly pricey, but it is well worth it.:)
We had a great time and loved the food. Our waiter, David, knew the menu well and provided great recommendations.
Food, Service, Cocktails and experience always the best!
Food is creative. Restaurant was very busy early on a cold Saturday evening. Service was attentive but not intrusive.
Saturday night we had another amazing meal at the Tasting Room. Everything was perfect from the service and the quality of the cocktails before dinner and then the impeccable service after we were seated. The suggestions from our server were spot on, the foie gras was incredible as were the mains. There are many options in the DC area and even in Frederick but the Tasting Room is always “our place”
Good food, crabcakes and ossobuco were very tasty service was great, but a little too formal and crisp. Atmosphere is nice, but for the type and quality of food, and service, there should be table cloths.
Brother was home on leave
Very loud, cold and got colder every time someone opened the door.
Wonderful food! Service not so good. Our initial server somehow turned us over to someone else, who then sort of forgot about us. Had to track down our drinks and my kids then reminded them it was my birthday. We were there early so not sure what happened with the service as they were not that busy when we arrived. A bit pricey but the food is always great! Just wish the service matched to food!
Another excellent meal. Loved the pork osso bucco and the seafood pasta special!
I took my Mom to celebrate her 93rd birthday. Our waiter David greeted her with birthday wishes, was attentive, friendly and professional. He brought Mom a lovely birthday sorbet with a candle for dessert. He absolutely made the evening even more special. The food was superb as well. The only complaint is that it is very, very loud with those lovely high ceilings.
I met a friend for lunch just few days before Christmas, and the neighborhood and the restaurant were bustling, but we still felt very comfortable to have a long chatty meal. The server was very capable and very kind, and the food was delicious. The lobster stew was one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten, and my friend's grapefruit mimosa was memorable. I live in Baltimore but will get back to Frederick sooner if I can eat at the Tasting Room again.
Three of us have been celebrating our birthdays for 20+ years. The birthday girl gets to pick the place. This was an outstanding choice! The food was over the top with many choices for all. The service was impeccable (thanks, Justin) and food was hot, which is more than a plus. Everyone, including the manager made sure we were taken care of. On our way out we mentioned this to the manager. I would recommend this restaurant for any occasion. Can't wait to return. We were all impressed.
Server was attentive but not intrusive. Shrimp and grits were delicious, the best I've had. Omelet was done to perfection and yummy.
Best shrimp and grits ever and unique and tasty mimosas.
While the crab cakes were on point as always, we switched it up for the cowboy ribeye which was a complete disappointment. I get rich marbling but this more fat than meat. A total waste for $60. The NY we’ve had in the past never let us down.
We were there on a Wednesday evening and we enjoyed our food but the server seemed
to be unaware of us. We all had salads and one person had an appetizer, the salad and
fresh bacon appetizer were served together. We had remind the server we wanted coffee
and ask twice for the check. These aren't deal breaker things but not the level of service
we have come to expect from The Tasting Room especially on a week night. Maybe he was just having a bad day!
We dined at The Tasting Room for a pre-concert birthday celebration. Our reservation requests were honored and the service was perfect. Waiter was knowledgeable and present. The food was delicious and interesting. Portions were small enough that we could do several courses. The chocolate sorbet is the best I’ve ever eaten in my life!
The decor is minimalist with hard surfaces that contribute to noise, but we sat at a table away from the bar where it was quieter. The dining room was edged with poinsettias for the holiday which softened the hard edges.
We had a delightful evening and I’d go again for a special night. Too expensive for regular dining out.
Seated us promptly on time. Excellent food and service. Would definitely go back again.
The Tasting Room has always had a reputation for offering well prepared and tasty food.
I’ve been there many times both business and pleasure to enjoy their fine food.
The Good: Consistency good food.
The Bad: The noise level was quite high.
The Ugly: One of our anticipated side dishes ordered was completely forgotten. When I asked our waiter about ordering glass of wine with the meal, I was basically dismissed because he seemed to be too busy.
The Verdict: I know it’s a trendy place and it was Saturday night but when our meal was over $200, w/o desert, their wait staff should maybe take a moment, sit in our chair take in their “TR experience”.
Yes it's a little expensive but we'll worth it. Between the homemade bread, lobster mashed potatoes, and foie gras I don't know which was more flavorful!
Service was exceptional!
I went to Tasting Room with my Fiance for our 2 year anniversary. (GF at the time). The staff's extremely nice and well mannered. They were fast on refills and bringing us bread. She had the muscles and I had the crab dip for a starter. Both were very Delicious. They gave us little 2 prong forks for the muscles, making it very easy to get the little guys out of the shell. I must say the muscles were to die for. Then the Crab dip came with little Crostini's they were toasted nicely. The dip itself was seared on top and had a nice mixture of crab and cheeses. Very generous on the crab. Lots of nice large chunks for us to share. Mixing the bread they serve and the crab dip was wonderful.
For our Entrée's I had Lamb and she had Fishermen's Stew. The Lamb was cooked a perfect medium which I had requested. It came with a mixture of potatoes and tomatoes, which to be honest was the only thing I've ever had from Tasting room that I personally didn't like. But I feel that more on me for not liking tomatoes that much. But anyways the Lamb was perfect every bite was amazing. The cook on the Lamb perfect, Nice sear, so juicy, tender, Seasoned wonderfully. Oh man writing this review makes me want to go get another Lamb.
She had the Fishermen's Stew. It came with Monk fish, Calamari, Shrimp, with a brilliant sauce over freshly made pasta. I only had a few bits of each ingredient but I must say each bite was delightful. The cook on the Monk Fish was spectacular. The shrimp has so much flavor unlike most restaurants were you get a watered down buttery tasting shrimp. I personally prefer fried calamari but I must say the sauce and the calamari went together perfectly. The whole dish came together very nicely. She was very satisfied and would get it again.
We also had a side of Gratin Potatoes. Seared on top perfectly, creamy and tasted wonderful. Everything a Gratin Potato should be.
Overall our dinner was amazing and I would like to thank the wonderful staff of TR.
We have dined at the Tasting Room a number of times. The chef is very good. However, as happens with many good restaurants, I suspect the landlord has raised the rent. (Restaurant profits always go to the the landlord, seldom to the owner.) Prices are up 20%. Only an occasional bottle of wine on the list below $50. Most have jumped to $80 to $120+. Unfortunately the Tasting Room has gotten overly expensive for what it offers.
As always, the best filet migon, hands down!!!!!!!
