The Tasting Room has some of the best food in downtown Frederick by far. They are in the same league for food (although very expensive) as Hootch and Banter and Volt. My 8 year old requested to go there for her birthday dinner as she has impeccable taste. However, I had asked specifically for a dessert that she would like when making the reservation in Open Table and a team member called to to verify that we would be getting not that one but another one of my choosing. They even verified as such upon arrival but within the hour apparently they forgot and gave it away to someone else and had no more. Further, the waiter was not very friendly or attentive at all but the busgirl was very accommodating. She deserved the tip more that the waiter did for sure.
Great birthday meal at the Tasting Room! Food was outstanding and service on point. Definitely a great experience. We will be back.
My wife and I love the food here. The only downside is how small the restaurant is and how crammed together all the tables are. The bar area is always packed with lots of people standing. Which isn’t a huge deal. But the tables, especially if you’re just 2 people dining, are so close together. You can hear everything the couple on either side of you is saying and there’s hardly any room to squeeze between the tables to get to your seat.
Always love the tasting room for the food and service but have found it very noisy the last few times I have dined there.
This is tough. The food was quite good as was the service. Happy hour in the bar was a disaster as it was super crowded and the bar area is poorly designed with tables jutting up against the bar stools. The main dining area suffers from the same problem. The space is small and they are cramming in too many tables. While we had a nice table at the window, my chair was only a couple of inches from the back of a chair at a table behind us and I kept getting hit when the man sitting there moved. While the food and service were certainly excellent enough for a return visit, the restaurant layout and crammed accommodations in the bar and restaurant will keep me from coming back.
I'd been to The Tasting Room once before and I've been wanting badly to go again, so when my father & stepfather came into town, I took the opportunity. The Tasting Room has a very small footprint, which means the tables are VERY close together and the ambient noise is quite loud at busy times. It also had "dinner lighting" which means if you're like me, it can be hard to read the menu. However, the food will never let you down.
It was Restaurant Week (which might account for some of the business) and I ordered the prix fixe menu for the occasion, but we also ordered two appetizers from the regular menu, the panko shrimp and the "sushi grade tuna" tuna tartare. I expected the Restaurant Week menu to be petite portion sizes, but if they were, they were still very generous and filling. Everything was delicious, satisfying three very different palates. I had a cocktail which was delightful and made me quite sad I was driving, so I couldn't have another.
The wait service was average-good. Our waiter was knowledgeable and courteous, but there was no standout moments (or horrible moments) and we often had to wait for refills on our drinks or to have finished dishes cleared. But nothing too irksome or that would keep me from coming back or recommending the place to others.
The food is excellent but the service is slipping. I had requested a seat by Market St. window. Had made it 1 month in advance, so actually forgot about window request. Had to wait...and wait...and advised it was because I had requested window seat...so after 20 min wait, we were seated about as far from Market St. as could be...??? House salad is always good, but always overdressed. I requested dressing on the side, it arrived overdressed...I said nothing. My husband's order of calamari arrived barely warm, as did my sword fish. Who serves cold entrees? So when asked, we told them and they went back for a heat up....took a long time. If someone sent a dish back to my kitchen, it would be a priority. The manager finally brings them back and tells me how much everyone else is enjoying their swordfish. Really? Was theirs also served cold?? Once brought to correct temperature the swordfish with veg in caper sauce was second to none. And we were offered comp desserts....which was nice, tho I am not a dessert person so had a limoncello. So again... excellent food but the service is slipping. Hope it is not a new trend.
This was our best visit to the Tasting Room. Service was very good (Connor), cocktails interesting and generous for $12 and good suggestions on wine with dinner (both Italian). The duck was medium rare to order, foie gras' good (but too much other stuff on the plate) and pleasant winter salad. Our only complaint (if it is one) is the noise. This restaurant is almost always noisy, and I know it was a Saturday night, but wow. I'm glad we had someplace to be at 8pm because it was getting deafening as we left. Otherwise, good choice for Frederick.
The Tasting Room never disappoints. They have the best Filet anywhere, and I do mean anywhere. The Au-gratin potatoes are equally amazing. I also recommend the lobster chowder. Make sure you see Amanda at the bar for a French Quarter.
Amazing!!I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
We love this place. Come every year (past 5) for our anniversary. We get the filet mignon and it never fails us! Loud not private but feels like you might be in New York or other big city!
Everyone orders the filet. Always great service. Good beverages. Birthday celebration.
Excellent, but pricey. Be prepared to drop a load.
Food was very good....we went to Brunch. Service was good overall but hard on occasion to get the server's attention. The look of the place was clean and modern without a lot of personality and , as they were busy and even had a bridesmaids party going on, it was rather loud.
Overall, because of the food, I rate it very high and will go back.
one of the more enjoyable brunches I've experienced in the Frederick downtown area. I use a walker to get around and I was greeted and the door held open upon my arrival. I had asked previously if they would accommodate delivering a cake I had brought for my friends 65th birthday. They indicated they would for a $3 fee per person for outside food which I can understand. I was then escorted to a very accommodating for my circumstances table where my friend was already seated. It was at that point our waiter Jeff took over. He is probably one of the best waiters I've ever had. The food was cooked to order and delicious. A very wonderful brunch. Thank you Tasting Room!
Great date night. Food was amazing and our waiter was on top of everything. Great recommendations and made sure never to keep us waiting too long. He was fantastic.
The Tasting Room continues to impress. We truly enjoy going there for the occasional dinner or lunch. From the perfect Martinis to seared duck FOIE GRAS and Fresh Bacon appetizers to the always perfect Filet and tender and moist Osso Buco, the Tasting Room serves fabulous fare in a vibrant environment. The TR also has an interesting wine program and is an excellent place to explore a variety of delicious wines.
Have eaten here several times and always had a great experience. While the Calimari appetizer was very good the entrees fell well short of what one would expect of a restaurant that costs so much. The filet ordered medium rare was medium well and a replacement came out rare with cold spots apparent while eating. The Seafood Stew was a linguini dish with a small piece of fish, a medium sized scallop, and several shrimp.
I won't be returning as in downtown Frederick there are many other choices that offer better quality for less cost.
I loved everything about the tasting room. The food was great, the place is beautiful, and the service was very friendly. I probably wouldn’t go back, however, because I feel like there are many comparable restaurants in Frederick for a fraction of the price.
We had a wonderful belated valentines date night at the Tasting room. Our waiter - David- was wonderful- attentive and very knowledgeable, but also let us take our time and enjoy the evening. The filet was probably one of the top 3 I’ve ever had and my husbands ribeye was also very flavorful and perfectly done. The scalloped potatoes that come with them were ok as well. We took home a creme brûlée and a piece of carrot cake - carrot cake was the best my husband ever had and the creme brûlée was really good. We will definitely return and bring friends - we need more people with us next time so we can try more foods 😃
Elegant atmosphere and we were really looking forward to our first dinner there. Unfortunately, the scallops that my wife ordered were undercooked and the was sick shortly thereafter. Kind of ruins all of the pluses for the evening.
Best restaurant in Frederick
Delicious food. Great wine and beer selection. The server was “ok”. Our table wa
Great food, sexy atmosphere. Expensive but totally worth the price tag. Don’t hold back and enjoy!!
All was ok. Not special. Service ok. Food ok. Not worth the money tonight.
We did not have a positive experience this time. We were celebrating Valentine's Day, and thought since our reservation was very early, we would not encounter a slow kitchen and inattentive wait staff, but we did. We found our food to be mediocre at best, and our server to be rude. We have been here many times, and this was by far our worst experience. Our waitress seemed to be intentionally doing things we asked her not to. She kept reaching across the entire table to get items she was asked to leave (I am a slow eater and explained I was not finished), while leaving clearly finished discarded plates perched on the edge of table. Our food took a great deal of time and was not well prepared. The crab dip we have gotten numerous times did not have crab in it--it was cream cheese with old bay (way too much old bay), but no crab.
Valentines date with hubby
This was my third visit. Love the Tasting Room for its tasty, imaginative menu offerings and great service. This is a must on Frederick.
This is the best restaurant in all of Frederick! Excellent food and service. I've been here multiple times and the experience is always consistent. I love this downtown gem!
We had lunch here for my daughter's birthday. There was a snafu over our reservation, but it was taken care of immediately with polite acknowledgement of their mistake. The food couldn't have been better. My daughter ordered the Lobster Chowder and the Broccolini. I had the Organic Atlantic Salmon. My daughter had Apple Cobbler for dessert and I had a latte. All were exceptionally good.
I understand that they have a vibrant bar scene, but at lunch it was quiet and relaxed. We had a window table and had the perfect celebration.
We'll be back here!
One of the best meals I have had in a long time!! Great food!
We had brunch and we both ordered Eggs Benedict but one was the Salmon Cake Benedict and both dishes were perfect! The pooched eggs were cooked just right and the Salmon cake was so crunchy, beautiful. We would've given 5 stars except for the dessert. We ordered carrot cake to go ($10) and when we got home and looked at it, we were so disappointed. We planned on sharing but here was this little round portion maybe 3 inches in diameter and maybe as high. To small to share and worse than that, very little cake and it was dry. The cream cheese frosting was good and enough considering how thin the cake was sliced but it couldn't mask the fact the cake was dry. Save your money on the carrot cake.
Trendy place to be and be seen in Frederick apps were spectacular we had the tuna , mussels, and chicken liver which is a Jewish delicacy , enjoyed it , real disappointed in the crap cakes , they looked much better than they tasted , bland , once you get out of Balto , no one can do crab cakes , wtf? Right?spouse got the cod which she loved , good drinks , waiter was polite , took awhile to get our drinks at first which I hate , but great service after , attentive , than forgot our dessert which we didn’t care by than because we were full , kinda did us a favor by forgetting , would go back for sure
Always amazing , cocktails , food , & service every time is the best anywhere in frederick-
Excellent meal. Cocktails were perfect. Service was great-not intrusive, but very aware and quick with drink orders on a very busy evening. Filet was delicious, lobster chowder amazing.
Had dinner with family as we attended First Saturday Fire & Ice. First time for all 4 of us. Service was wonderful and the food was excellent. Didn't feel like we were being rushed. I would highly recommend this to friends & family. We will go again.
Small plates soup and sandwich serious crab dip excellent service. Recommended
The tasting room has one of the best filet mignon I have ever had, the service is wonderful, and the ambiance is very relaxed. I took my boyfriend for his birthday and he already wants to go back. It is a great place for celebrations and date night!
A great meal at a fine restaurant in downtown Frederick. The server was very attentive and nice. Food was excellent, although the Filet Mignon was a touch on the dry side at medium well. Still, a great place for an anniversary meal! Definitely recommend.
My husband and I really enjoy The Tasting Room and we go often. This particular night was his birthday and I mentioned that it was my husbands birthday thinking that something special would happen to make the experience more memorable however; we seem to have had a "newbie waitress" that didn't seem comfortable yet with serving. We did not let this spoil the evening. We will continue to have dinner here as often as we can. I definitely would recommend this to others.
