The Tasting Room
Established in 2001, The Tasting Room restaurant and wine bar has earned a reputation as a modern American force in the Frederick area. Combining the essence of Frederick and the modern styles of New York, The Tasting Room provides diners with an experience to remember. Situated in the heart of Frederick's historic district, The Tasting Room captures the energy of Market St. with floor to ceiling windows and a 180˚ panoramic view. Fresh local ingredients and unwavering consistency have been the benchmarks for this ultra-successful Michael Tauraso establishment.
Meal was excellent. That was likely the best Filet I've ever had at The Tasting Room. Service was good, friendly and attentive. Only suggestion I would make is a business casual dress code.
I've been to many restaurants in Frederick but The Tasting Room remains my favorite.
Consistently well prepared meals and excellent service. My family, friends and I will
keep coming back.
Food is always great and service is perfect. Love the place and will come back!
Celebrated our anniversary here. Service, food and atmosphere was phenomenal.
Both the Monkfish and Rockfish dishes were superb. I ordinarily choose their filet mignon which is always outstanding but wanted something different and was very pleased. Great service and wine selections are always present at this establishment.
That place always provides a great meal. Best steaks in Frederick, but their seafood is amazing also!!!
As always, its the best food in Frederick. Is it cheap?? Nope, but its the only place that I can order anything on the menu and it is better than any other place. My wife and I hit this place up a few times a year and its perfect!!
Tasting Room continues to be our favorite and go to restaurant!
Food was really good as always. Spanish shrimp had a slightly different flavor. More smoke than sherry but still good. Mains were perfect.
I took my mom and my newborn baby girl here for Mothers Day Brunch and it was absolutely perfect. We got the Lobster whipped potatoes and shrimp and Grits and it was delicious! For desert we had the carrot cake and berry cheesecake and that did not disappoint either ♥️
Service was slow. Took 20 minutes to get a drink. Steak was over cooked, crab dip was bland. The Caesar salad was very good. The Positive is the 2nd round of drinks were free because it took so long. Not worth 50.00 for a steak. Plan on spending 200.00 not including tip for 2 people.
We’ve been dining at the Tasting Room for decades, and it has never disappointed. We had another wonderful dining experience there this past weekend. The lobster chowder alone is worth the trip—two hours drive for us!
We have eaten here several times and the food and service are always outstanding. Love the varied menu and atmosphere and location are great.
Great food and service
Tasting Room has the best Happy Hour in town. Most unique cocktails! Our dinner was amazing! We both got New York strip, was absolutely delicious! Thumbs up!
I usually get the Filet, as it is usually "perfectomendo" can't miss option #1. This time I opted for the 22 ounce Cowboy bone in Ribeye ( a bit more medium than medium rare as ordered) and lobster whipped potatoes. Steak was good, rubbed in rosemary, but I am a bigger fan of the Filet. The lobster bisque is good too.
So my go to place for the best coldest Martini in frozen glass with blue cheese olives, Filet Mignon medium rare, awesome scalloped potato and house salad around $100+, add a Maryland crab cake on and you will not be dissapointed!
Tell 'em Airplane Jon sent you. Fly on...Tailwinds and good food to you.
Food and service were wonderful.
We have been coming here for a few years now and I'm never disappointed with the food the service can sometimes be impersonal. However our most recent dinner for our anniversary was delicious and amazing and our server was very engaging and friendly! Can't wait to come back
Dinner before performance at the Weinberg
Excellent service, excellent food!
The Tasting Room is the best 'Occasion' restaurant in Frederick. It's pricey but it's worth it. Most people just can't afford to go as often as some other places. Entrees are about $30-$50 but again they are worth it. We go a couple times a year, 3 tops. Fantastic Wine List, appetizer options are top notch and broad at about 15-18 deep. Great for a small plate lighter dinner. The creamy Lobster chowder is a staple that either keeps getting better or is just so transcendent that every time I have it, it's 'The new best thing I ever ate'. I could just have that once a week and be happy for the rest of my life. I'm sure some people do that the lucky dogs and I would too if I stilled lived downtown. Again, one of my favorite restaurants on the planet and one we continue to enjoy as often as we can. Try it and you won't be disappointed.
We regularly came to the Tasting Room, usually for lunch but this time for dinner. We were kind of shocked at the prices. $50 for a filet mignon seemed overpriced. We ordered it anyway and it was good. Would have preferred French Fries with it rather than Au Gratin Potatoes.
If lunch prices have gone up too, we may not go back to the Tasting Room.
Great place for a date night.
Quite and quaint. Food was absolutely amazing!
Great service! Always excellent food and choices. Consistently the best everyday restaurant in Frederick.
It was first time dining @ Tasting Room. It was expensive. Food was good, but not spectacular; didn't quite earn it's value compared to price point. Waiter was nice, he tried, seemed new/unfamiliar at least. Although at end he passed by three times checking on neighbor table and didn't notice me trying to pay the bill.
I started with Caesar salad - this was probably my favorite dish of the night.
Followed by entree: Filet Mignon - cooked almost perfectly, great - no real complaints.
Entree came w/side of Potato Au Gratin - okay.., least favorite
Finished with Creme Brulee - very good - no complaints aside from wanting more of it.
My spouse ordered the crab cakes which had good amount of meat in it. but taste wise, ok nothing to die for. He finished with the flourless chocolate cake - very rich, very ganache like.
We love Tasting Room! It’s one of our favorite restaurants! Our meal is always perfect!
We thoroughly enjoyed our Easter brunch. This was our first time at The Tasting Room and will likely make the trip up from Gaithersburg again.
Another amazing evening at The Tasting Room. Loved the updated seasonal menu and the Foie Gras was on point tonight. Incredible cocktails always perfectly made and the service from our favorite server Cynthia and the whole staff was just perfect. Took my Mom for her birthday and they just did it up right! You will never go wrong with dinner at TR
There were 6 of us. We have been to Tasting Room many times. Always delicious. Except I had something I have never ordered before and will not order again. I don’t remember the menu name but it was chicken cubes on penne pasta served in a little skillet. It was not very good was bland. Not much flavor at all and the chicken was dry. However, the filet and the hamburger were excellent and the deserts and coffee were excellent. The crab dip and Brussel sprout starters were also excellent.
Though I typically get the Swordfish, it wasn’t on the menu that night so I went ahead with dish #2, the Fillet Mignon and was not disappointed. Cooked perfectly, I Imagine it is one of the best in the Frederick area. The price was a bit high at $50 a person but it was an amazing meal.
You have to try the Crab Dip!
Tasting room is one of only four top notch dining locations in Frederick that truly rank top tier and the only one open on Monday. Food, service, and wine are excellent. Ding area is small and tables are close. Noise levels can reach loud if you land next to a large corporate group.
I live in Washington DC but find myself spending the night in Frederick a couple of times a month. The Tasting Room had for a couple of years been my favorite restaurant - but I think it's really gone downhill. The quality of the food is greatly diminished -- it's still decent, but it's bland and dramatically overpriced, and I get the impression that the restaurant is kind of coasting on its reputation. I used to love the tuna tartare, but now it's mostly avocado. The beef carpaccio is just awful - tiny little shreds of beef on dry toast with a bit of arugula plopped artlessly on top. The brussels sprouts side dish - one of the only vegetables on the menu - is greasy and full of meat. So if you're looking for something light, flavorful and healthful, this restaurant really has nothing to offer you.
However - the cocktails in this place are fantastic and just keep getting better. I will always keep going back for those! The drinks are the reason for the 4-star rating. Otherwise it would be a 2!
Best place in Frederick!
My husband and I don't live in Frederick, so for us the Tasting Room is more of a celebratory dining experience. And this last visit was no different. It was my birthday and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating, or pleasant. My meal was absolutely delicious. Although it was just a filet, it was melt in your mouth amazing. Paired with an excellent wine and great company, the evening made my day.
I would recommend to a friend for a higher priced lunch venue. It is a little pricey, however, I feel for the service, food, atmosphere, it is a reasonable value.
We always have a great experience at this upscale restaurant. The small dining room is bright and tables are spaced out to make conversation easy. Everything is on one level which makes handicap accessibility easy, although street parking is hard to find and there is no easy drop-off spot. The service has always been excellent, and this time was no exception - our waiter was timely, friendly &knowlegeable, and anticipated our needs with impressive skill. The menu has a varied selection for all tastes and food restrictions, the bar is excellent and wine list very good. The food is excellently prepared, beautifully plated, and the general atmosphere is attentive but refreshingly unpretentious. Although moderately expensive for Frederick, the food and service are well worth the price and we will be back again!
We’ve been visiting The Tasting Room for the past five years on a regular basis, traveling from Harrisburg, PA, in search of good restaurant’s experiences: The Tasting Room hardly ever disappoints and often surprises us in a very positive way.
