The Tantalus Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I are recent transplants to area from Bellevue where food options abound. Trying out Issaquah for closer options, we chose Tantalus for Greek options not available elsewhere on Eastside. Great favorites, Saganaki (!! Yum), Gyros, Dolmades, Mousaka, just like we like. Very reasonable price and parking. Little rustic room, but hey, this isn't Bellevue. :-)
My wife and I had a craving for Greek food Friday night, and we were not disappointed. My wife had the leg of lamb, while I stuck with the gyro. The gyro meat was thick and succulent...best I've ever had...and all the other accoutrements were great. The leg of lamb was perfectly done, and very flavorful. We topped our meal off with dessert (baklava and something that sounded like "Galactica"), and they didn't disappoint.
This review wouldn't be complete without mention of the superb service, beginning with the attentive and gracious owner down to the young and enthusiastic wait staff.
All of this made for a very pleasant evening, and I would recommend Tantalus for authentic Greek food any day!
Great food and service was very welcoming. My only suggestion would be to have some music playing very lightly in the background as this would have added to the ambience. Certainly a place I will return in winter on those cold nights where this food would be ideal
Food was good, service was terrible however. Apparently they were under staffed. The server sat us outside and then forgot about us for half an hour. Then we kept having to go look for him for drinks. But, we'll try it again some other time. Maybe it will be better, I hope so because we love Greek food.
The owner waited on us and explained the uniqueness of Greek food compared to other Mediterranean foods. We asked him to serve us a family style meal. Start to finish including wines. He did all the work and our group of 5 had a chance to just visit. The food( lamb, chicken, beef, very fresh Greek salad, olives, pits bread, hummus and a Greek version of babaganoosh(sp). The wine was appropriate for each course. Coffee and desserts. Two and one half hours of great food and service. We could have been in Greece😄
We have dined at this restaurant several times. Indoor seating all year, outdoor seating when the weather cooperates. Food style is Greek and very good. You can find for $15 to $20 per person. Located in a quaint shopping center of old houses relocated to Holman Village. Plenty of free parking on site.
Encouraged by friends who are regulars, we made the trek to meet them there for dinner. What a treat ! The staff was very efficient and friendly but a bit slow..our fault, we told them we wanted to visit when they asked if we had play reservations at the theatre.
I would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. I wish we had had room for dessert !
We've been here a few times. Each time, the service is amazing with special care and advice, and each time the food has been very good. We enjoy Greek cuisine, and this place does a great job. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. Last time we went with our 11 year old, and the server ensured he'd he happy with what he got by asking questions and making sure he'd try things. Full points.
After watching the movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, we craved for some Greek food. We came here on a quiet, early, weekday, evening dinner. Seats were wide open. The decors inside are outdated. They have to remodel this restaurant to be more appealing and enticing to dine. The service was excellent. The food was done right. Kebabs were tender, not dry. We forgot to use the coupon or the Passport card. Perhaps, next time.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Issaquah . The food is always good, the staff works hard to make you feel at home and accommodate your wishes.
This evening, a busy Saturday evening, it was crowded but we had an excellent meal and attentive service.
Tantalus has terrific Greek food with traditional dishes that are hard to find these days, along with some fun Greek wine selections too. Great ambience, and the main host who may be the owner too, makes us feel incredibly welcomed and special. After just a few visits, he remembers the kids, our unique orders, and provides the rare, personalized family restaurant experience that is hard to find these days.
We ate here on a Wednesday evening at 5:30. The service was very good until the restaurant got busier. It seemed they only had one server for the entire room. While he was very friendly it did get slow. Our food was just mediocre - large portions but nothing special.
Found this place on Open Table for dinner after show at the Village Theater. It is a short 15 minute walk up Rainier Blvd from the theater, and the food and service were great, and at a very good value. A great find for picking a place somewhat at random, but we will be back.
A small, hidden treasure. Very quiet with soft theme (Greek) music in the background, fantastic and personalized service, good food and a surprisingly large selection of dining options. We took my mother here for her 89th birthday and she loved it. For quite some time we were the only ones there (5:00 p.m. on Thursday) which resulted in us being pampered. None of us are really Greek food enthusiasts but we wanted to try something different. We just may have been converted! This place just fits into the Gillman Village motif and the prices were very reasonable and not jacked up like some restaurants in the village. A very nice find.
This is my favorite Greek restaurant conveniently located in GIlman Village. We've eaten here several times over the years and it's always been very good. I really enjoy the combo plates as they serve a variety of greek specialties on one plate..& that way I don't have to choose just one! (My favorite is the Tantalus plate. You get roast leg of lamb, 2 dolmades, spanakopeta, served w/ potatoes & vegetables for $18.) Entrees come with choice of 2 soups or for an upgrade you can get a choice of 4 salad. Reasonably priced for the quantity and quality of what you get. Bring a jacket in winter as it can get cold if you're seated close to the door.
We were well received. The menú has variety, with good options for kids. We order a Mussaka and Faki for us, and a kind of chicken brochette for our 6y-old daughter, what she liked. We rated the Mussaka 8 of 10, and the Faki 9 of 10. Prices are moderate, and the waiter was always taking care of us with a very kind attitude.
The atmosphere is relaxed and the place has that subtle smell of old good restaurants -just a Family-site one, not a smell that would stick to your clothes.
In general, a very good experience. I would only object that they only offered 2 desserts -we order the Baclava which was a very good one.
