The Tailor and the Cook Ratings and Reviews
Had a good dinner experience even though it was very busy and my filet was cold I still ate it it was delicious although I regret not asking them to heat it up for me but the wait was so long I didn’t want to wait any longer I would’ve ordered desserts but my husband was frustrated with the wait times would love to return however can’t say the same about my husband. I am from Puerto Rico and I have a deep love for fine cuisine due to my Islands food variety and amazing Chefs,I believe the tailor and cook live up to its reputation and it’s name
A bit of a nondescript storefront from the outside but a totally quality experience once inside. Excellent service and mostly locally sourced quality food. I made the trip from Syracuse to Utica the third time to visit them again (via Amtrak). I would call this fine dining without the snobbishness that can sometimes occur. They serve the traditional West End Brewing Company Utica Club beer. They are a short walk from Utica Union Station through mostly deserted streets and are in the historic Bagg's Square district.
First visit. A great fine dinning inspired farm to table neighborhood gem, in the midst of Utica NY. Casual , personable, fun & a little funky. Service was spot on, always there and never intrusive. Food was taste, innovative, and high quality. A highly enjoyable experience.
We had a terrific meal, starting with an amuse bouche of peeled radish holding capers in cream. We shared our entrees because we both wanted both! They were an extremely tender filet mignon with crisply roasted potatoes and carrots and a homemade spaghetti (not too many noodles, an excellent amount) with shrimp, mussels, and clams, topped with a few strands of roasted fennel. Desserts looked great but we were too full. A great find!
An unexpected find in Utica. Nice people dedicated to local ingredients and quality fare. Our dishes could have been more creative and better prepared but after being spoiled by Los Angeles cuisine, this place is a diamond in the rough in a city trying to get on its feet.
This was my second time dining at The Tailor and the Cook and it just gets better and better. The host greeted us upon entering and he is always very warm and accommodating. My cocktail of choice was the 'Rock and Rye' listed on their signature drink menu, and it was amazing. You could taste every spice; every flavor. I ordered the Pressed Chicken for dinner, my date ordered the steak and both of us are still raving about both dishes. We also ordered the Charred Carrots paired with a pistachio yogurt sauce as a side.. I think that may have been my favorite part! Great atmosphere, amazing food, and wonderful staff. I would recommend Tailor and the Cook to anyone and I can't wait to dine there again!
The staff are very attentive from the moment you walk through the door until it closes behind you. Although pricey, the food is delicious. I had the mahi special, and it was the best recipe for mahi I've ever had. The portion was perfect for me, but my husband's steak was small, and he was still hungry when we left.
....the servers presented menu and informed us of all food at too rapid a pace...very memorized...not as personal as maybe we would have liked...not as relaxed as could have been...servers are well trained on food presentations...overall enjoyed the evening...and surely will come many times again...
Each time my wife and I dine at Tailor, we are beyond pleased. From the moment one enters this incredible establishment, it is impressive. From the very talented mixologist, Joe, to the host, Jared, to the great servers, Blaire in particular, to the welcoming and incomparable chef, Tim. Their dedication to their respective craft lends itself to providing its patrons with an incredible experience.
We are truly fortunate to be able to dine at such a perfectly executed restaurant.
We live 1,000 miles away, but anytime we are near Utica we come here. As always, the food is so superbly paired and presented that each meal is a memorable experience. We have eaten all over the world and this is a top 5 restaurant.
We couldn't make it until 9:30, which was closing time. The host and waiter patiently and graciously welcomed and served us, which most restaurants won't do at the last minute. Just impressive.
They try hard and it shows. If you're anywhere near the area, make coming here a priority. It's worth it.
I look for any occasion to come to this restaurant, and have never been disappointed! The food is consistently phenomenal--fresh, creative, satisfying, and worth every penny spent. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting--great for a multi course meal, or something less formal. The staff is attentive and very knowledgeable about the menus. I always feel at each and comfortable here, and highly recommend it!
Possibly one of the best restaurants I've eaten at in a very long time. My date was very impressed and scored big time points because of it.
I highly recommend the pressed chicken and if it's available, the cheese sampler.
Definitely a great place for a first date.
Sadly disappointing experience. After a six month wait to visit this highly anticipated meal we were all but satisfied after this meal. We choose to travel two hours out of the way of our destination to dine and spent in total an extra 300 just to stay overnight and eat at The Tailor and the Cook. The meal with tip neared 200 and for the cost the value just was not there. Portions were sadly small and lacking greatly in flavor. The service was nice for kudos and I enjoyed the wine however after booking online it appeared we were given the worse table next to servers station adding to the noisey cramped atmosphere. Our entrees were cool to the touch and pieces burnt adding to the disappointment. I will not be returning to this restaurant unfortunately sadly let down.
Each time I eat there, the food is consistently fantastic, the service is stellar, and the ambience is authentic. It is just an all around wonderful dining experience. I would recommend The Tailor and the Cook to anyone wanting a fantastic dining experience in the Utica, NY area!
We came a bit early to allow us time to have a drink at the bar. The bartender makes a fine old fashion. The table was ready on time and we were seated at a very nice table in the back. The menu is varied by season as this is a farm to table restaurant. One of our party requested the filet but wanted the sides that came with another dish, the waitress was happy to accommodate the request. Two of us ordered the trout sans head please and again happy to accommodate. We had a wonderful meal and the service was terrific. I would highly recommend this restaurant! The food was amazing.
The Rainbow Trout was delicious and full of flavor. Had a Gin from the Adirondacks made with pine needles - very good. Cheesecake was one of the best I ever had, light and creamy. Smore Torte also very notable. All the servers and staff where friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Would go back again.
