The Tailor and the Cook Ratings and Reviews
The Tailor and the Cook is a great find for those looking for an excellent farm to table experience. Very creative and delicious menu selections couple with good customer service and great prices. Finally a restaurant that gives you a full meal for the entree price!
My second meal here and it was as good if not better than the first. Attentive and helpful waitstaff. Delicious, "farm to table" selections from the menu. The subzero outside temps made it a bit cool in the restaurant, so wear a sweater. Overall, outstanding!
I have had exemplary meals in the past however my latest experience was very disappointing. I ordered the hake which ended up being very tasteless, it was a tiny piece of fish which was overpowered by the side of collard greens. It also came with some unpleasant tasting sweet potato cakes. I’m very open to getting what you pay for, but the price was very out of line. The bar and wait staff however were excellent and very knowledgeable and attentive. My guests shared my sentiments and will never return.

The Filet Mignon was the best I had in my whole life! To die for!
Romantic evenings for my husband and I.
We enjoyed everything. To our manhatten at the bar and our delicious dinner to dessert ! The bartender was so upbeat and fun!
Our 35th Anniversary.
Our son and daughter in-law's favorite restaurant too.
My experience was wonderful! I had the duck, it was perfectly cooked served with a butternut squash bread pudding and sauteed kale. All entrees come with very crusty nice bread and a salad of local greens with a very good house dressing. The wine, on the lower end of their price range, was very good. The service was excellent. We were too full for dessert. I will be returning to the Trailer and Cook again!! (This was my third visit!)
We had a pre-Theatre dinner with another couple that was outstanding. Our server was excellent. The food (chef's tasting salmon; flank steak and petite filet) were cooked to perfection. The dinner wine suggestion was spot on. I would recommend this venue to everyone.
Tailor and the Cook stands out from all of its peers in the Utica area. The food is not simply great, it is sublime. Attentive staff, nice wine and liquor menu, locally sourced ingredients, and outstanding cuisine make this my favorite place in the areafor a fine dining experience.
Tim Hardiman has established a "go to" place for special occasions and business meals. The farm to table theme is outstanding, and the food matches the 4 seasons in Upstate New York. We always go there for birthdays and anniversaries with our friends and family.
Wonderful dining experience from start to finish! We were seated on time. Beautiful ambience. We loved the unique salads and appetizers. Everything was just the right portion sized. Simple yet elegant decor and lighting. I chose the vegetable curry which was so fresh and yummy! My husband had the venison which he said was cooked perfectly. We definitely recommend and will be back soon.
Needed a place to sit at the bar, have a couple of drinks and talk with staff (dining alone). Starting with a nice glass of wine.... lots of conversation in trying to pick a good one from staff. My main was the hanger steak. The mushrooms and sides were delicious. The steak although well cooked was hidden in under greens and mushrooms. Really just six bites. This is a cheap cut of steak and at $30 usd + one would think you could get 4 ounces of steak.
The next glass of wine and desert wine rounded out the evening.
Ambiance was missing something.... the room felt flat.
We love this place every time. We’ve tried everything from the vegan risotto to the fish and pork rib. We have never been disappointed. Always always always start with the local cheese board and a glass of wine. The Gibson is really great if you like a twist on a dirty martini. If you want a special date night or you have guests to impress this is your place. Of course we just like to go for no reason at all except not to dirty the dishes at home :)
Farm to table. Presentation is amazing. Each dish is accompanied by an explanation of what it is and what farm it is from. They have very unique dishes and desserts. Mixologist at the bar!!! Cocktails are fabulous and made with care and creativity. Service was impeccable! This is a restaurant and stafff that care about the food they are serving and truly make this a dining experienced! Very impressed!
I'm a college student in the Utica area. I'd never been to The Tailor and the Cook before, but I'd often heard the locals speaking incredibly highly of it. I must say, after experiencing it first hand, I now fully understand what all the hype is about. The building itself is a circa early 1900s former tailor shop, so it has a rustic and quaint charm about it. The staff were very friendly and attentive and also very knowledgeable; all of my and my friend's questions regarding the food and beverage options were answered to our utmost satisfaction. The food itself was out of this world; you can definitely taste the difference in freshness because they use only locally-grown ingredients in all of their dishes. My biggest criticism is I felt the portion sizes were small. I must admit, I'm biased because I'm a college student (i.e., my financial situation is "non-ideal" to say the very least), but when I'm paying $30-40 for an entree, I'm expecting a generous amount of food. However, overall, I feel that my dining experience at The Tailor and the Cook was outstanding. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who's visiting the Utica area and/or anyone who lives in the area who's never been there before.
It was a party of three for a business meeting. I indicated in advance that I wanted a relatively quiet table, and the host made this arrangement. When we were seated, the waiter indicated that he was aware that this was a business meeting and that we needed to talk, so he told us that he would make interruptions as quick and unobtrusive as possible. The service was great. We all had the tasting menu.. Excellent meal. I've been to Tailor & the Cook many times for different occasions. It's a sure thing.
We’ve enjoyed many meals here but this was my favorite. The staff and the meal exceeded our already high expectations. From the perfectly seasoned vegetable appetizer through the beautifully presented entree to the finale of a surprising carrot sorbet we enjoyed a memorable anniversary celebration.
